Xiashi Ancient Town

Xiashi Ancient Town is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and a provincial scenic spot in Guizhou Province. It is located upstream of the Qingshui River, in the southwestern part of Kaili City, bordering Majiang County to the west, connected to Yatang Street of Kaili City to the east, Xingshan Town of Majiang County to the west, Xuanwei Town of Majiang County to the south, and Fuyuan City to the north. It spans between 107°42'3"—53'9"E and 26°26'29"—34'3"N. Named 'Xiashi' because it was the administrative seat of Pingding during the Ming and Qing dynasties and is located downstream of Pingding, it has been praised as 'Culturally-enriched Xiashi, naturally crafted landscapes'. The total area of the town is 154 square kilometers, including a total arable land area of 22,100 mu; the population is 50,000 people (with a permanent population of 35,000), mostly inhabited by minority ethnic groups such as the Miao and Mulao. Xiashi Ancient Town is also known as 'Little Shanghai', and has been called the 'Pearl on the Qingshui River'. It is the national canoeing demonstration base, the hometown of Chinese red garlic, the hometown of zinc and selenium rice, and the hometown of the world-famous Xiashi dog, among others.
