Tibet - an icy Winter Wonderland

Initially hesitant to try this trip in the Winter, I was bowled over by the combination of mysticism, culture, disciplined lifestyles and natural beauty thy Tibet had to offer. Be prepared for altitude sickness, especially at the Base Camp stop - be sure to have sufficient oxygen supplies and Rhodiola pills. Food is super cheap and really generous portions are served. The local dumplings called Momos are great and yak meat is abundant. I wasn’t a big fan of the local butter tea though. The monasteries were beautiful but most trips include 10 too many so plan with your agent, your ideal itinerary. It was super cold and hard to breathe (Everest region plummeted to -30 degrees at night) but definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. lots of driving this mountains and you feel transported into a different world. Quite surreal and the local people are very welcoming and friendly - intrigued by foreigners.
