Wat Sri Chum: Pay Homage to Phra Chao Tan Jai

🙏 Wat Sri Chum, originally named Wat Kang Hong Don Jai, features a stunning white stucco vihara. 🏰 Inside the vihara, the entire structure is intricately carved from teak wood, including the walls, pillars, doors, and windows. The vihara houses Phra Chao Tan Jai. 🙏 Phra Chao Tan Jai is a bronze Buddha statue crafted by the royal artisans of Phayao, in the Chiang Saen Singha One style. It is seated in the diamond lotus position on a double lotus pedestal, a distinctive feature of Phayao's royal artisans, with a width of 25 inches. 🙏 It is believed to have been built during the prosperous era of the Lanna Kingdom, approximately 700-800 years ago. The statue exudes serenity and elegance, with a radiant face and eyes reflecting compassion. 🙏 During World War II, in a time of scarcity, the temple was abandoned, and Phra Chao Tan Jai disappeared. A replica was created to commemorate the lost original statue. 🙏 In 2011, the villagers of Sri Chum searched for and eventually restored Phra Chao Tan Jai to its original location, becoming a spiritual center for the people of Dok Kham Tai once again.
