Songling Snow Village in Jilin is peaceful and beautiful. After the heavy snow, the beauty of the village becomes more apparent, and the people and things are more harmonious! #bucketlist

I always thought I had to go to Xinjiang or Western Sichuan to see autumn, until I turned into Linjiang, Jilin—a small town on the China-North Korea border—this autumn and realized we had been overlooking the autumn colors of Northeast China for too long. 🍂 October to November is the peak of the valley's beauty—maple leaves are fiery red, meadows are golden, and the stream is crystal clear, yet there are far fewer tourists than at Changbai Mountain. The combination of fewer crowds and stunning scenery is just perfect! 01 | Valley Alpine Grassland: Stepping on autumn colors in the clouds Hidden on a ridge at an altitude of 1,260 meters is nearly 100 acres of natural grassland, surrounded by "five-flower mountains"—red maples, golden birch trees, and dark green pine forests layered together like an overturned palette of nature. Cows graze slowly on the pasture, and under the blue sky and white clouds, it is simply a pastoral idyll. ✔ You must go to the north viewing platform to overlook the Laoling Mountain Range. On a clear day, you can even see the peaks in the direction of Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain. ✔ The light is softest from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Take a panoramic photo of the grassland with your phone in landscape mode, and it will look like a computer desktop background. 02 | Maple Leaf Valley: Stepping into a red corridor To the right of the alpine grassland is Maple Leaf Valley. In autumn, the maple leaves are as red as fire, and they are so dense that you don't even need to pick an angle. Walking along the wooden boardwalk, the fallen leaves crunch underfoot, and looking up, you see light and shadow intertwined with red and gold. It really feels like walking into an autumn fairy tale. 🍁 ✔ Don't miss the "Autumn Appreciation Avenue" from the exit to the entrance of the scenic area. The ground is covered with yellow leaves, making it perfect for photos. 03 | Stream Trail: A healing walk to the sound of water The entire trail is built along the stream. The path is flat and easy to walk, suitable for both the elderly and children. The stream is clear to the bottom, and ancient trees tower on both sides. Sunlight filters through the leaves, making you want to stop and take pictures every few steps. There are also swings and wooden bridges along the way, with maple leaves covering the bridges, creating a perfect atmosphere. ✔ Walk toward the tributaries of the stream to avoid the crowds and find quiet, niche scenery. 04 | G331 Border Highway: The drive itself is the scenery Linjiang is right next to the G331 National Highway, with North Korea just across the Yalu River. Driving along the river, you will find riverbank viewing platforms and seas of Korean cosmos flowers, perfect for stopping and taking photos anywhere. Driving this road in autumn, the mountains on both sides of the car window are covered in colorful foliage. Just being on the road is worth it. ✨ 📸 Photography & Outfit Tips ✔ White, beige, and light bean green are the most photogenic and match the warm autumn background perfectly. Avoid wearing black. ✔ Dress in layers! It's in the teens (Celsius) during the day, so a thin long-sleeved shirt is fine, but in the mountains, it drops to single digits in the morning and evening, so a windbreaker or thin down jacket is a must. ✔ Wear non-slip sneakers, as some parts of the boardwalk and meadow can be slippery. ✔ Carry mosquito repellent with you. The valley has dense vegetation and many mosquitoes. 🍜 Don't Miss the Local Food ✔ Chicken stewed with mushrooms: Stewed in a large pot on a farm, the mushrooms are picked from the mountains, and the broth is so fresh you'll want to mix it with rice. ✔ Linjiang river fish: Steamed crucian carp is the local way to eat it; the fish is so tender it falls apart with a touch of your chopsticks. ✔ Iron pot stewed chicken, wild mountain vegetables, and farm eggs are available at farmhouses around the scenic area, and the portions are generous. ✔ Go to the Linjiang Night Market in the evening for barbecue and Korean-style stone pot bibimbap, full of local life and atmosphere. In October, Linjiang Valley has no crowded throngs of people, only golden meadows, fiery red maple leaves, and slow-paced border time. This unhurried autumn is the most comfortable way to travel, right? 🍂 Save this now and go before it gets popular!

Who would have thought such a hidden valley existed? With colorful forests covering the mountains, mist often swirling through the peaks, and meadows, streams, and vast stretches of red leaves all in one place. Escape the crowds and enjoy a relaxing autumn getaway perfect for hiking and breathing in the fresh air. Save this 3-day, 2-night itinerary for a truly relaxing trip. ✅ 🏡 Accommodation options ▪️ Homestays near the scenic area: Prioritize homestays near the valley. You can see the morning mist as soon as you open your window. The temperature difference between day and night is significant in autumn, and the environment is quiet. Be sure to book in advance for holidays. ▪️ Hotels in the town further away: Better value for money with a wide range of dining options. Suitable for those who prioritize convenience, though it requires a short drive to and from the scenic area. 📅 3-day, 2-night itinerary Day 1: Arrive at the hidden gem. Spend the afternoon strolling through the heart of the valley, walking along forest trails, admiring the red and green trees, and stepping on the soft grass. Wait for the mist to rise in the mountains at dusk—perfect for atmospheric photos. Enjoy local farm-style food for dinner and get some rest to recharge. Day 2: Deep mountain exploration. Wake up early to see the morning mist wrapping around the entire valley, like stepping into an oil painting. Hike deep into the valley to find streams and see the autumn colors painting the forest. Spend the afternoon exploring the surroundings, soaking in the tranquility of the mountains, and watch the sunset bathe the forest in light. Day 3: Relaxed half-day. Sleep in, visit some lesser-known viewpoints to enjoy the autumn scenery one last time, pick up some local specialties, and head home. 💡 Travel tips ▫️ The temperature in the mountains is low in autumn, so be sure to bring a thick jacket as the temperature difference between day and night is huge. ▫️ The mountain trails have loose gravel, so be sure to wear comfortable, non-slip shoes. ▫️ It can be rainy and foggy, so bring a raincoat and try to avoid entering the mountains during extreme foggy weather.

Many travelers head to Northeast China for autumn foliage, with Changbai Mountain as their first stop. However, the small border city of Linjiang, located near Changbai Mountain, is also worth a visit. It’s free from crowds and retains its pristine, natural landscape—perfect for those who prefer quiet sightseeing and road trips. 🍂 Linjiang Creek Valley Grasslands and colorful forests intertwine, with red maples, white birches, and green pines scattered throughout. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating soft layers of light and shadow. Hiking here is easy, with gentle forest paths that don't require strenuous climbing, allowing you to enjoy the autumn scenery as you walk. Travel tip: This is a pristine, undeveloped area with very few convenience stores along the way. Please prepare drinking water and snacks in advance, and remember to wear non-slip shoes for walking on mountain roads. 🍂 Yalu River We recommend a road trip along the riverside highway. As you travel along the river, the trees on both banks gradually turn shades of red and yellow with the changing season. The views are expansive, and you can pull over at scenic spots to enjoy the river breeze and scenery—the unique border atmosphere is truly special. 🍂 Huashan National Forest Park This area features vast stretches of virgin forest where autumn leaves change color, with birch and maple trees layered together. It’s not crowded, so you can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the woods and easily capture atmospheric photos. 🍲 Local cuisine While here, be sure to try Korean-style specialties like iron pot stew, cold noodles, rice cakes, and kimchi—the portions are generous. For mountain farmhouse dishes, we recommend trying the wild mountain vegetables and free-range chicken; the ingredients are fresh and full of local flavor. 💡 Practical travel tips ▪ Best time for autumn foliage: Late September to early October, when the colorful forests are at their best ▪ Transportation: A road trip is highly recommended, as the attractions are far apart and public transportation is inconvenient ▪ Clothing: There is a large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains, so bring a thick jacket to stay warm ▪ Supplies: There are few shops in this pristine area, so purchase supplies in advance ▪ Responsible travel: Please protect the natural environment, avoid trampling on vegetation, and do not pick branches or leaves If you are planning a longer trip to Changbai Mountain, you can add Linjiang as a stop along the way. Unlike the bustling scenic areas of Changbai Mountain, Linjiang offers a more relaxed vibe, making it perfect for travelers who prefer to take their time and enjoy pristine, natural scenery. If you are short on time, prioritize the Yalu River riverside highway for a short trip where you can still experience the autumn scenery of the border.

On this trip to Linjiang, I spent a total of CNY 110 on tickets—Xigu CNY 50, Zhenzhumen CNY 30, Laotudingzi CNY 30. Three tickets, all for the mountains. Linjiang belongs to Baishan, Jilin, and the Yalu flows past the edge of the city; the other side is North Korea. Standing on the riverbank, you can see the hills and fields across the way; it doesn't feel far, and you can clearly make out the houses and roofs over there. 🎫 Linjiang is a city along the G331 border route. In the past two years more people have been driving the G331, and Linjiang is often used as a midway stop. The riverfront has a landscaped promenade, and Yalu River Park is neatly laid out along the river. In the evening many people take walks; the water is a greenish blue, and the river breeze is refreshingly cool. At dusk people stroll and fish along the bank; the pace is slow, and once you sit down you don't feel like moving. 🌊 On the river island there's a Chen Yun Park, and the Chen Yun former residence memorial hall is in the city—you can enter free with an ID. The Sibao Linjiang campaign is a local red memory; the museum displays the original tables, radios, and daily items, and inside you find yourself lowering your voice. 🏛️ Laotudingzi is about 10 km southwest of Zhenzhumen Village and is part of Huashan National Forest Park. The summit is a large alpine meadow at over 1,400m, and it forms the watershed between the Yalu and Hun rivers. There are few large trees on the meadow, so the views are wide open. In mid-September the forests start to turn from green to yellow, and the distant ridges show distinct layers. You can drive close by, but the mountain road has many switchbacks; there are viewpoints along the way where you can stop. ⛰️ The canyon is another spot. The valley has streams and deciduous forests, and in mid-September the woods are still mostly green, with a few birch and maple trees beginning to yellow and redden, yellow and green interweaving, and the stream in the ravine remaining clear and cool. Zhenzhumen is known for its gorge and stone gate scenery. Both spots are hidden in the woods and require a fair walk to reach, so wear shoes with good grip. 🍂 Further downstream toward Sidaogou, the riverbank is also beautiful, and the villages across the river are in North Korea. In autumn, driving there gives you river views paired with layered forests along the way. In mid-September there aren't yet large areas of red leaves, but the maple woods on the ridges have started to color slowly; the slopes are gentle and the views are wide. 🍁 Mid-September is a nice time to see early autumn in Linjiang; large areas of red leaves typically arrive in mid to late October. But temperatures vary year to year, so the timing of the colors can shift—don't plan for a specific day; check which valley is turning once you get to the river. Mornings and evenings start to feel cool in mid-September, so a softshell or a warm jacket will come in handy. Frost comes early in the mountains, and roads can be slippery in the morning. Ticket prices have changed over the years, so just pay the on-site price that day. Signal on the mountain is generally weak, so check your route before entering the scenic area; there are signs along some sections of the riverbank, so stick to open areas. Do not photograph military facilities, and follow the border travel regulations 🚗. To get to Linjiang you can first go to Baishan and then transfer by bus or drive there; the road conditions are good. If you take the G331, you can join it from either the Changbai or Baishan end. Food and lodging are mainly in the city; you can eat northeastern cuisine, river fish, and mountain specialties—one walk along the main street will cover it. During the red-leaf season weekend rooms can be tight, so book early to be safe. If you want to see the border and the autumn colors, three days is about right: one day for the riverfront and the memorial, and two days for the mountains to the north. Don't pack your itinerary too tightly—leave half a day to sit by the river; it's more relaxing than rushing from spot to spot. The city night market has grilled meat and grilled cold noodles; after an evening walk along the river you can stop by for a bite. Linjiang isn't at high altitude, so altitude sickness isn't much of a worry in autumn—it's just cool in the mornings and evenings. The day I left Linjiang, the river was fogging up. The villages on the other side were half hidden and so quiet you could hardly hear anything. I sat in the car watching the river flow away, hardly saying a word. Some places are like that—you don't feel a strong reluctance when you leave, but afterward they pop into your mind from time to time. 🌫️

The long-awaited G331 Jilin scenic section is here. Although it's early autumn and not yet the peak season for golden autumn views, the scenery along the way is a constant highlight. I really didn't expect my great Jilin to hide such stunning border river views. Day 2️⃣: Ji'an → Linjiang Departed at 11:00 AM. I set a few main waypoints, but the rest was all about what caught my eye. As a spontaneous traveler, I'm all about being laid-back. Whenever I saw nice river or mountain views along the way, I just pulled over. The early autumn mountain colors aren't at their peak yet, but driving along the Yalu River with the river breeze blowing, the mountains and villages on both banks were all in view. - Stopped and went along the way, arriving in Linjiang at 5:00 PM. I had to arrange a barbecue to relieve the fatigue of the journey. A local friend in Linjiang recommended a specialty barbecue place. Honestly, it's even better than Changchun barbecue. Such delicious food deserves a separate post to talk about in detail! 🍁 Original photos, no filters 📺 Next post preview Laotudingzi + Xigu The 'Altay of the Northeast' is stunning

You guys, I'm telling you! Stop crowding Changbai Mountain! I discovered a cloud sea wonderland in Jilin that's basically the "Northeast Little Switzerland." I went once last October and left my heart there. I couldn't wait to visit again this year, and the moment I saw the sea of clouds rolling in, I got goosebumps all over! It's Linjiang Laotudingzi! As a spur of the Longgang Mountains in the Changbai Mountain range, the 1,420-meter summit is free of trees and is one of the few alpine meadows in the Northeast where you can enjoy a 360-degree, unobstructed view of the sea of clouds. I bet 99% of people don't know about this hidden gem! September to October is the peak season for cloud seas ⚠️ Take my advice: if it rains one day and is sunny the next, go for it! The chances of seeing the sea of clouds are ridiculously high. I've been twice and caught it both times—I'm lucky enough to win the lottery! The moment I stood on the summit, I gasped! The entire alpine meadow is so vast you can't see the end, with absolutely no obstructions. The views for sunrise and the sea of clouds are so incredible I could bow down to them 🌄! Besides the main viewing platform, walk 10 minutes to the west side of the meadow to find a cliff edge that's never crowded. The atmosphere of looking down at the sea of clouds rolling over the mountainside is just perfect. The spruce, white birch, and Erman's birch trees below spread out in layers, with colors transitioning from golden to dark green—it's more beautiful than any painter's palette! Wind-sculpted dead trees and old stumps are scattered across the meadow; just leaning against them makes for a cool, wilderness-style photo. Even shots taken with the original camera have a National Geographic quality. After I posted them on social media, people were asking me for the location for 3 days straight! Let me share a few hidden tips no one else will tell you! Don't waste time looking for the ticket office at the foot of the mountain; you still have to drive another 30 minutes up the winding mountain road to reach the entrance. During the peak season from August to October, the operating hours are 3:30 AM to 4:00 PM. If you want to camp, make sure to book one day in advance. Also, don't wait for the scenic shuttle bus. Just drive yourself to the parking area halfway up the mountain to save yourself 2 kilometers of unnecessary walking and get an extra 30 minutes to wait for the sunrise! For accommodation, you can stay in Linjiang. It's a 1-hour drive to the foot of the mountain, followed by another 20-plus minutes on the winding mountain road to get there. Don't be careless with your clothing either. It's very windy at the summit at night, and the temperature difference is significant. Wear a fleece as your base layer and a windbreaker on the outside; you can also bring a lightweight down jacket. Prioritize comfortable, non-slip hiking shoes so you won't easily slip after the rain. The entire alpine meadow is huge, so you can wander around and take photos freely—the photo quality is amazing! By the way, the wind on the mountain is strong enough to blow you away, so don't be like me the first time I went—I was freezing with a runny nose but still didn't want to leave 🥶 Trust me, these next 2 weeks are the perfect time to go. If you wait another week, the leaves will have fallen, and you'll really miss out!

I get it, everyone😭 I originally thought Changbai Mountain was just about the crowds at Heaven Lake. I came here hoping to explore the forest culture and encounter the colorful autumn mountains, but I was completely blown away by the town forests, colorful canyons, and log cabin villages in September–October🍂! The forests are painted in layers, the birch trees are gilded, the tourist crowds have receded, and the Meirensong pines, volcanic canyons, and deep-mountain log cabins are all intertwined. It was incredibly relaxing, and once I arrived, I couldn't bear to leave in a hurry🌾 ① 3-day Changbai Mountain forest roaming itinerary📅🗺️🍁 Day 1 Slow stroll through Erdaobaihe Town📜🏡☕ In the morning, visit the depths of Meirensong Corridor Bridge Park🏛️. Avoid the crowds at the entrance; the century-old Meirensong pines stand tall, and the wooden skywalk is hidden among the trees. It is quiet, free to walk, and an immersive way to experience the tranquil charm of the Changbai Mountain forests. In the afternoon, wander through the residential back alleys of Erdaobaihe🏘️. Skip the crowded tourist markets and duck into the local residential alleys. You will see rows of Northeast-style bungalows with courtyards, hung with dried mountain goods. It has a rich, authentic local atmosphere without being overly commercialized. The streets are open all day for free, so take a slow stroll to experience the local life of the town. In the evening, take a walk along the riverside path of the Chinese Merganser Park🌙. As the daytime hustle fades and the river flows quietly, find a local Northeast-style restaurant to sit down, feel the cool mountain breeze, and enjoy the quiet night scenery of the Changbai Mountain town. Day 2 In-depth tour of the colorful canyon forests🌅💐🚶 In the early morning, head to the forest boardwalk of Jinjiang Grand Canyon🌿. This is a volcanic secret spot cherished by locals. In September–October, red maples, white birches, and green pines interweave to form a colorful mountain landscape. Walking slowly along the wooden boardwalk, the canyon is deep and the colorful forests cover the slopes. It is quiet and perfect for clearing your mind. In the afternoon, head to the path by Wangchi Lake🌳. Avoid the crowds at the main scenic area and find this pool of still water hidden in the primeval forest. The grass and trees by the lake are tinted with autumn colors, and the path is flat. Far from the noise of the city, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the primeval forests of Changbai Mountain. In the evening, wait for the sunset in the direction of the canyon🌇. The sunset dyes the entire colorful forest and volcanic rock walls in warm orange tones, and the twilight of the forest sea spreads out layer by layer. Quietly enjoy the dusk in the Changbai Mountain valley. Day 3 Healing trip to the ancient wooden village🍃🪨🏡 In the morning, head to Jinjiang Wooden Village🏞️, an original ancient village at the foot of Changbai Mountain. The entire village is built with logs, featuring wooden tiles and wooden fences. It is very low-commercialization with few tourists. Stroll along the country roads and feel the tranquil atmosphere of the mountain forest and ancient village. In the afternoon, return to Erdaobaihe, browse the local mountain goods market, find an authentic Northeast-style restaurant, and enjoy a meal while basking in the warm autumn sun. Feel the leisurely pace of the forest town before preparing for your return trip. ② Transportation🚞🚌⚠️ High-speed rail is the preferred way to arrive at Changbai Mountain Station, then transfer to a bus directly to Erdaobaihe Town🚄. Taxis are convenient within the town; for trips to Jinjiang Grand Canyon and Jinjiang Wooden Village, which are further away, chartering a car or booking a ride-share is time-saving and effortless. 💡Tips to avoid pitfalls: The wooden boardwalks in the forest are damp and slippery, so be careful not to fall. Do not enter undeveloped wild forests without authorization. Do not trust low-priced tour groups on the roadside. Be cautious when following restaurant recommendations from drivers. Northeast-style dishes have large portions, so order according to your needs. ③ Accommodation recommendations🏨💤💰 ① Erdaobaihe Town homestay📍Near Meirensong Park, 248 CNY/night✨ Close to the town's local life, with many local snack shops nearby. It is convenient for travel and offers an immersive experience of the forest town lifestyle. ② Forest homestay📍Near the Wooden Village, 226 CNY/night🛏️ Close to the forest, the environment is quiet and peaceful. You can take walks in the forest during your leisure time and have a comfortable rest after your trip. ④ Must-try local food🥢🍲🥧 Stewed chicken with mushrooms is fresh and mellow; pickled cabbage with pork and blood sausage is sour and flavorful; Korean-style beef soup rice is warming and satisfying; sticky rice cakes are soft and sweet; stir-fried wild mountain vegetables have a natural forest fragrance; iron pot stewed goose has a rich broth. Take a bite to taste the local flavor of the Changbai Mountain forest area. ⑤ Photo spots & outfits📸👗💐 📸Photo spots: Meirensong Corridor Bridge Forest🏯, residential back alleys of Erdaobaihe Town, colorful forests of Jinjiang Grand Canyon, Wangchi Lake, and the log cabins of Jinjiang Wooden Village. 👗Outfit suggestions: In September–October, the temperature at the foot of Changbai Mountain is 8–20°C, and the temperature at the main peak is even lower🌤️. The temperature difference between day and night is huge. During the day, wear long sleeves and knitwear. A windproof jacket or even a light down jacket is essential, as it is very cold and windy at the summit. Earth tones and caramel colors match the colorful forests and wooden houses well. The forest boardwalks have slippery fallen leaves, so prioritize non-slip hiking shoes. The high-altitude UV rays are very strong, so bring a hat and sunglasses. ⑥ Travel tips🎒💡🍂 Travel preparation: Bring sunscreen products🧴; carry an umbrella as the mountain weather is changeable and prone to sudden fog and temperature drops; there are many mosquitoes in the forest, so bring mosquito repellent; there is a lot of greasy meat, so bring stomach medicine. Travel reminders: The scenic area requires online reservations in advance. Heaven Lake may be temporarily closed due to weather, so check official notices before traveling; the forest boardwalks have slippery fallen leaves, so watch your step; try to travel in groups when entering the mountains and do not go deep into the dense forest alone. Pitfall guide: For local specialties like ginseng and black fungus, prioritize old shops frequented by locals; be rational when purchasing souvenirs around the scenic area. ⑦ Personal travel experience💌🍁✨ I originally thought Changbai Mountain was just about the crowded queues at Heaven Lake, but autumn unlocked a different kind of charm with its pine forests, hidden alleys, colorful forests, and log cabin villages. Without the noise and crowds, the Meirensong forests, volcanic canyons, and wooden villages—every step is a scene, all with the unique autumn atmosphere of Changbai Mountain🍂. The only small regret of the journey is that there was too much scenery, and I couldn't bear to leave in a hurry.

This is really not to discourage you!! After driving the Linjiang section of National Highway 331, I was truly captivated by the beauty of this small border town✨ The evening breeze of the Yalu River, deep forest secrets, healing niche villages, and cool canyon streams— No commercial traps, no massive crowds. It's the deepest hidden gem for a summer getaway in Northeast China. The reason I say "I won't be coming back" is because it's too easy to do it wrong, too easy to waste your trip, and too easy to get exhausted to the point of collapse! I've compiled a guide based on real experiences for the average traveler, laying out the truths, pitfalls, and the right way to play that no one online talks about. Copy this itinerary for your first visit✅ 💡Real, unfiltered travel experience ✅Top-tier niche summer getaway in the Northeast The average annual temperature is super comfortable, and the deep forests provide shade the whole way. You don't need air conditioning in the summer—it's a natural oxygen bar that heals all stuffiness and irritability. ✅The most beautiful section of National Highway 331 The scenery along the riverside highway is legendary. The river is emerald green, the mountains are continuous, and every photo you take is a healing border landscape. The atmosphere for a road trip is top-notch. ✅Quiet, uncommercialized, and uncrowded No crowded tourists, no price gouging, no pushy sales. The local customs are simple and honest, making it perfect for relaxing, clearing your mind, and enjoying slow travel. ❌Real downsides that average people might struggle with (the honest truth) ▪️Attractions are super scattered!! All the beautiful spots are spread across various villages and towns deep in the mountains. The distances between attractions are huge, so it's basically impossible to visit without driving yourself. ▪️Public transportation is very weak. There are no dedicated tourist lines, waiting for buses is difficult, taxis are expensive, and it's basically impossible to see everything on foot. ▪️Facilities are incomplete. There are few popular restaurants, choices are limited, and it's easy to have to wait in line at meal times or even find no food available. ▪️Road conditions for niche attractions are complex. Some mountain roads have many curves and are muddy on rainy days; novice drivers should proceed with caution. ▪️Winters are extremely cold and autumn is short. The best time to visit is only during the few short months of summer. 🌤️Best time to visit ▪️June–September (first choice): The forests are lush and green, the streams are cool, and it's perfect for summer getaways, hiking, and road trips to see the river views. ▪️October (golden autumn): The autumn colors of Songling Snow Village are stunning, with layers of colorful forests—the peak time for photography. ▪️November–April: Cold winter with heavy snow, suitable for snow viewing. Not recommended for those who are afraid of the cold or prefer a lazy trip. 🚗Transportation | Top priority (core pitfall avoidance) ▪️You must drive or charter a car! This is the only right way to experience Linjiang. Public transport only goes to the city center; it doesn't reach the deep mountain scenic areas at all. Walking or taking taxis is completely unrealistic. ▪️National Highway 331 is great for driving, with many scenic overlooks along the way. You can stop to take photos whenever you want, and the scenery is always changing. ▪️Travel times between attractions are long. Plan your route in advance, leave plenty of time on the road, and avoid driving on mountain roads at night. 🏞️Must-visit spots | No detours, no traps 🌊Border river scenery | Gentle and healing ▪️Jiangxindao Chen Yun Park A free treasure of a park in the city center! Located on a small island in the middle of the Yalu River, the environment is quiet and lush with greenery. It's incredibly healing to feel the river breeze and watch the sunset in the evening. You can look across the river at the scenery on the other side. It's the top choice for a walk to clear your mind, offering both cultural and natural scenery. ▪️Linjiang Old Railway Station A century-old Japanese-style wooden station that preserves the original old-fashioned tracks and signal lights. There are almost no tourists, and the retro, nostalgic atmosphere is perfect for a slow stroll and taking documentary-style photos. ▪️Yalu River scenic belt There are many free scenic overlooks along National Highway 331. Places like Baimalang and Laolongtou offer stunning views everywhere you look—you can see the border river scenery without paying for admission. 🌿Deep mountain natural secrets | Must-visit for summer getaways ▪️Xigu Scenic Area (Little Altay) A natural air conditioner kept secret by the locals! It has grasslands, a swing valley, and forest streams. The admission fee is affordable, you can drive directly there, and it's covered in shade the whole way. It feels super cool in the summer and is suitable for all ages. ▪️Zhenzhumen Scenic Area A quiet mountain forest with waterfalls and crystal-clear streams. It's a niche, pristine spot that is quiet and uncrowded, perfect for hiking and refreshing your lungs. ▪️Wangtiane Canyon The top-tier niche canyon in the Northeast! It features unique volcanic rock walls and layers of waterfalls. The forest coverage is super high, providing shade throughout the entire hike. It's an easy, non-tiring hike, and the beauty far exceeds many famous scenic spots. ❄️Niche villages | Seasonal exclusives ▪️Songling Snow Village A pristine village with an ink-wash painting style. The winter snow scenes and autumn forests are legendary. It's not commercialized, just simple and quiet. If you like a niche atmosphere, you must come here. 📅3-day 2-night relaxed itinerary | No marathon-style travel Day 1: Arrive in Linjiang → Visit Jiangxindao Park → Retro photo op at the old railway station → Watch the sunset along the river in the evening and eat at the local night market Day 2: Deep mountain day trip | Hike and get some fresh air at Xigu Scenic Area → Play in the water at Zhenzhumen Waterfall for an immersive summer getaway Day 3: In-depth tour of Wangtiane Canyon → Road trip along National Highway 331 → Return trip 🍜Local specialties | No-trap list ▪️Yalu River full fish feast: Fresh river fish, tender and odorless—a signature dish you must try when coming to Linjiang. ▪️Korean-style snacks: Sticky rice cakes, blood sausage, and soybean paste soup—authentic, traditional, and unique in flavor. ▪️Local pancakes: Soft, chewy, and crispy, handmade with a great texture, affordable and delicious. 💡Truth: There aren't many food choices in Linjiang. Don't have high expectations for "internet-famous" food; the focus is on original, home-cooked flavors! It is recommended to book farmhouse restaurants near scenic areas in advance, as there is a high probability of running out of ingredients or having no seats during meal times. 🏨Accommodation guide ▪️Linjiang city center: Convenient transportation, easy to find food, best value for money, and the top choice for first-time visitors. ▪️Songling Snow Village homestays: Korean-style courtyards and "kang" (heated bed) experiences. Great atmosphere, perfect for photos and an immersive experience. ▪️Near deep mountain scenic areas: Few homestays and average conditions. Not recommended for travelers with essential accommodation needs. ⚠️Heartfelt tips to avoid traps (90% of people fall for these) 1. Do not come to Linjiang without a car! The attractions are too scattered, and you will be stranded and exhausted throughout the trip. 2. Do not trust roadside private guides or low-priced scenic area packages. Only purchase tickets through official channels. 3. There is a large temperature difference in the deep mountain scenic areas, and there are many mosquitoes. Even in summer, bring a light jacket and mosquito repellent. 4. Mountain roads have many curves. Drive slowly and cautiously, and be careful when entering the mountains on rainy days. 5. Don't time your meals too tightly! Local shops close early and ingredients are limited, so be sure to eat in advance. 6. The wind by the river is strong and the UV rays are intense. Sunset photos look great, but you must use sun and wind protection. ✅Final thoughts Linjiang is a severely underrated border town🌿 It has a great river, forests, canyons, and ancient villages. It is gentle, quiet, clean, and healing. When I say "I won't be coming back," it's not because the scenery is bad, but because it's so picky about how you travel and your pace! As long as you drive, take it slow, avoid the traps, and pick the right season, this is definitely a niche hidden gem in the Northeast worth visiting multiple times.

I really did visit the valley. It's right next to Changbai Mountain, 20 km north of Linjiang city, a hidden alpine meadow + colorful forest stream deep in the mountains. The key is—there are really few tourists. When Changbai Mountain Heaven Lake is crowded, this valley lets you quietly walk the entire trail stepping on fallen leaves. · -- ✨Highlights Alpine meadow: Spreading out over gentle slopes, the meadow turns golden in autumn, surrounded by birch and larch trees, like stepping into an oil painting. The view is wide, perfect for a picnic or just zoning out. Colorful forest stream: The stream flows through the valley, with red leaves on both banks reflecting on the water. It's most ethereal in the early morning with a light mist. The water volume isn't high, but it's clear enough to see the stones at the bottom. Larch forest: Golden pine needles cover the ground, feeling soft underfoot. Sunlight filters through the trees, making every photo look soothing. Border scenery: Linjiang itself is a small city on the China–North Korea border. North Korea is right across the Yalu River. Take a walk along the river while you're there for the full atmosphere. 🗓️2-day, 1-night itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Linjiang > Afternoon hike in the valley (2–3 hours, best lighting) > Stay in Linjiang city Day 2: Morning walk along the Yalu River > Jiangxin Island or Chen Yun's Former Residence > Return trip 🍜Simple eats Korean cold noodles: Linjiang is a Korean ethnic enclave. The cold noodles are sweet, sour, and refreshing, perfect with kimchi; dog meat soup with rice (optional); river fish stewed with tofu: freshly caught fish from the Yalu River, delicious. 📌Know before you go · Best time: Late September–early October, peak colorful forest · No signal in some parts of the valley, download offline maps in advance · Wear non-slip shoes; it's slippery under the fallen leaves · Large temperature difference between day and night, bring a windbreaker or light down jacket · Do not fly drones in border areas; follow the rules One last thing: Leave Changbai Mountain Heaven Lake to the sightseers. The quiet autumn colors of the valley are for those who truly want to walk into the mountains.

I went for Changbai Mountain's Heavenly Lake, but a friend dragged me to Linjiang instead. They said the autumn in the valley was the absolute best. Once I got there, I realized—it didn't just hit the ceiling, it blew the roof off. 🍁First reaction: How is this grassland growing in the sky? Driving up the winding mountain road, the sides were filled with a mix of red, yellow, and green forests. The moment I reached the summit, a nearly 100-acre alpine grassland suddenly burst into view. At an altitude of 1,260 meters, it's surrounded by virgin forests, looking like someone laid a blanket across the mountain ridge. Standing on the grassland and looking back, the winding road I'd just driven looked like a thin line, with the layered Laoling Mountains in the distance. The wind was strong, sending waves of grass rolling by, while yaks chewed grass at a leisurely pace. My friend said it reminded them of Altay, but I think it has a wilder, border-town spirit than Altay. 🚗Self-driving is the best way to experience it The scenic area allows private cars to drive in directly at no extra charge. It's about 10 km from the gate to the alpine grassland, with the road winding through the forest the entire way. The Maple Leaf Valley section is narrow and curvy, but the maple trees on both sides form an archway, and rolling down the window fills the car with the scent of pine resin and fallen leaves. Hiking into the scenic area is not recommended. The internal winding roads total 22.5 km with an elevation gain of nearly 600 meters, and some slopes reach 45 degrees. It's better to drive and save your energy for the summit. 🗺️How to spend half a day Enter the gate > drive slowly through the stream and maple leaf section > stop at the swing platform > alpine grassland (the highlight, spend the most time here) > walk a section of the Maple Leaf Valley boardwalk > bird's-eye view platform to see the sea of clouds > autumn viewing avenue toward the exit. The whole trip isn't rushed, and 3–4 hours is just right. The light is best around 3:00–4:00 PM, when the sun hits the grassland at an angle, making the tips of the grass glow gold and casting long shadows. 🍜What to eat Head down the mountain to downtown Linjiang. Chicken stewed with mushrooms is the soul of the local cuisine—hazel mushrooms from the mountains paired with free-range chicken, resulting in a rich broth and tender meat. The mountain vegetable hot pot and iron pot stew are also worth trying. You can eat until you're stuffed at the city night market for just a few dozen yuan per person. ⚠️Helpful tips · Cell signal is poor in the mountains, so set your navigation before leaving the scenic area to avoid getting lost. · Bring a windproof jacket. It's windy at the summit and the temperature difference is significant, so a windbreaker or light down jacket is essential. · Wear non-slip shoes, as some parts of the grassland and boardwalk can be muddy. · Traffic and queues are heavy during the National Day holiday, so arriving at the gate around 9:00 AM is the safest bet. · The restrooms are dry toilets, so be prepared. Changbai Mountain's Heavenly Lake is beautiful, but it's also truly crowded. The beauty of the valley lies in standing on the alpine grassland, surrounded only by the rustling of the wind through the trees—it's quiet, wild, and you don't have to fight anyone for a photo spot.

Transportation · Flight: Changbai Mountain Airport (Songjianghe is closest) > Changchun Longjia > Tonghua Sanyuanpu · High-speed rail/train: Baishan Station, Songjianghe Station, Linjiang Station, Fusong Station · Self-driving is most comfortable: West Slope—Linjiang—Changbai County is a loop, border roads have great scenery · Chartered car: Great for 2–4 people to explore the border line; many mountain roads between Linjiang → Changbai County, avoid driving at night V. What to eat (the soul of Baishan) · Northeast hearty dishes: Iron pot stewed fish, stewed chicken with mushrooms, sauerkraut and blood sausage, traditional pork feast · Changbai Mountain delicacies: Aralia elata, bracken, fiddlehead ferns, crayfish tofu, matsutake/hazel mushroom fried rice · Korean-style: Cold noodles, bibimbap, rice cakes, kimchi, dog meat (skip if you mind), Korean cold noodles + crispy chicken (Changbai state-run restaurant style) · Hot spring snacks: Frozen pears, blueberries, linden honey, ginseng preserves, schisandra wine · Drinks: Changbai Mountain mineral water, ginseng tea, blueberry juice VI. Where to stay · Convenient for Heaven Lake: Songjianghe Town, near the West Scenic Area · Vacation experience: Wanda Resort hotel cluster · Hot spring lovers: Around Hallasan Hot Spring, Tianmu Hot Spring, Pangu Hot Spring · Border culture: Linjiang city center, Changbai County (to see the night view of North Korea) · Niche autumn colors: Homestays near Huashan/Xigu VII. Seasonal tips (perfect for your September trip) · Mid-Sept – early Oct: Autumn colors, red leaves, more sunny days, fewer tourists than summer vacation · Heaven Lake: West Slope 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, whether the main peak is open depends on wind speed and weather · Large temperature difference between day and night: 15–22°C during the day, 5–10°C in the morning, bring a windbreaker/light down jacket · Late Oct – Nov: Some projects under maintenance, snow not yet heavy · Dec – Feb: Wanda/Luneng skiing + snow hot springs are top-tier, but the border line is cold, and Wangtiange may be closed VIII. Tips to avoid pitfalls 1. Buying a ticket for Heaven Lake doesn't guarantee access; main peak closures are common, don't plan for just one day. 2. Wangtiange/Shiwudaogou may be temporarily closed for maintenance, check the "Changbai County Culture and Tourism/Scenic Area" official account before going. 3. Changbai Mountain West, North, and South Slopes have different entrances; Baishan city center ≠ Changbai Mountain entrance, don't assume you can make a round trip by taxi in 1 hour. 4. Do not fly drones across the border; do not take random photos of ports/bridges/the North Korean side. 5. Choose formal resorts for hot springs; hygiene and anti-slip measures in wild bathhouses are generally poor. 6. It's cool in the forest in the morning and evening in September; don't wear jeans for rafting, bring a change of clothes.

The main peak of Changbai Mountain is beautiful, of course. But this time, I took a detour into the Linjiang Valley and discovered that autumn could be this peaceful. Why it's top-tier The valley is located in Huashan Town, Linjiang City, about a 40-minute drive from Changbai Mountain Heaven Lake, yet it has a completely different pace. On a ridge at an altitude of 1,260 meters, there's a hidden alpine meadow of nearly 100 mu, surrounded by colorful forests, often called the Jilin version of Altay. The key is that there are few tourists, so you don't have to wait in line for shuttle buses like at the main peak of Changbai Mountain. Moments that won me over · Strolling through the clouds: The alpine meadow has shed its summer green, turning a gentle golden hue, while the surrounding forest, a mix of red, yellow, and green, looks like an overturned palette. The grass is flat, perfect for kids to run around. · Bird's-eye view observation deck: Climb to the 1,260-meter observation deck for an instant panoramic view. A sea of clouds is very common in the early morning or after rain, with mist rolling through the ravines. · Maple Valley hike: Walk along the wooden boardwalk toward the valley floor, where red leaves burn like fire, springs tinkle, and the negative oxygen ion levels are off the charts. The light is most beautiful when it filters through the maple forest between 3:00 PM–4:00 PM. Itinerary (2 days, 1 night) Day 1: Arrive in Linjiang in the afternoon, visit Laosandui Village, have a Northeast iron pot stew, and stay in Huashan Town. Day 2: Enter the valley in the morning, drive to the mountaintop meadow (you can drive all the way up). Spend the morning photographing the meadow and observation deck, hike the Maple Valley boardwalk in the afternoon, and head back in the evening. Food recommendations On the way back, head to the Zhengyang Road Night Market in downtown Linjiang for grilled cold noodles, sticky rice cakes, and sizzling Northeast-style barbecue. You must try the local chicken stewed with mushrooms; the farmhouse-style preparation is super authentic. Travel tips · Navigate to "Changbai Mountain Valley Scenic Area." Tickets are 40–50 yuan, and there is no extra charge for driving up the mountain. · Cell signal in the scenic area is spotty, so set your navigation before leaving. · There is a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring a windbreaker or a light down jacket. · The restrooms are dry toilets, so be prepared. Final thoughts No crowds like at the main peak, just meadows, maple leaves, and quiet winds. A place like the valley is perfect for those who want to avoid the crowds.

🍂 If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy the autumn, why not visit this low-key border town? The scenic area has RV campsites and wooden cabin accommodations, and portable cassette stoves are allowed in the meadow area. ▪️ The scenic area has limited facilities, and most restrooms are concentrated in the alpine meadow area, so plan ahead. ▪️ There is a lot of cow dung on the meadow, so watch your step while hiking. ▪️ Temperatures in the mountains are low in autumn, so be sure to bring a windproof jacket and wear comfortable, non-slip shoes. 🌟✨ Nearby attractions ✅ Lingshang Maple Forest A 2A-rated scenic area where the autumn forests are dyed in vibrant colors, like a rich watercolor painting, making it perfect for photos. ✅ Stroll along the Yalu River In your spare time, you can take a walk along the river, enjoy the river breeze, and experience the unique, leisurely atmosphere of the small town. 💛 There is no need to rush to popular tourist spots. Traveling with kids is stressful when it's crowded. Linjiang is different. This small city along the Yalu River turns vibrant red in autumn, and a gentle river breeze is all it takes to help you unwind. 🚗 Getting there Drive along G331. The riverside road is breathtaking, lined with red leaves, and stopping at every viewing platform is well worth it. Alternatively, take a high-speed train to Baishan Station, where buses run directly to Linjiang in just over an hour. 🗓 3-day itinerary Day 1: Explore the "red" city at a leisurely pace The Memorial Hall of the Four Defense Battles of Linjiang is free (closed on Mondays) and offers a meaningful history lesson for kids. The Former Residence of Chen Yun is also free and offers a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. In the evening, head to Jiangxindao Park to look across the river; the sunset paints the water red, making it perfect for photos. At night, visit the riverside night market and grab some grilled river fish. Day 2: Head into the mountains to enjoy the autumn foliage Admission to Xigu Scenic Area is 50. In autumn, the entire valley is layered with red, yellow, and green. A meadow is hidden at the top where kids can run wild among the red leaves, play on the swings, and take beautiful photos. The mountain roads are winding, so drive slowly. Day 3: See the sea of clouds and red leaves at Laotudingzi Admission is 30. The 180,000-square-meter meadow at the summit looks like a red carpet in autumn. If you're lucky, you'll catch a sea of clouds; the red leaves against the clouds will mesmerize the kids. It's 10 degrees colder on the mountain than at the base, so be sure to bring a jacket. 🍽 What to eat Try the Yalu River fish feast—it's fresh. The wild mountain vegetables with dipping sauce are refreshing. Biaoge Jianbing is a provincial intangible cultural heritage; roll it with green onions, and it gets more fragrant the more you chew. At the night market, enjoy grilled cold noodles and Northeast-style barbecue. You can eat your fill for just a few dozen yuan per person. ⚠️ Travel tips Bring your ID. Do not take photos of the other side of the border. Don't trust roadside solicitors; purchase tickets through official channels. The mountain roads are winding, so drive slowly if you're an inexperienced driver. The best time to see the red leaves is early to mid-October; if you go too early, they won't be fully turned. 💰 Budget-friendly tips The memorial hall is free. Tickets for Xigu and Laotudingzi total 80 yuan. Stay in the city and eat at the night market, and you can enjoy a very comfortable three-day trip for 400–500 yuan per person. Linjiang isn't a trendy "influencer" city. It's perfect for those who want a quiet getaway to enjoy the autumn foliage with their kids and get some fresh air.

When people think of autumn in Northeast China, the first things that come to mind are usually Jiaohe Red Leaf Valley or Changbai Mountain. But hidden in Linjiang, on the China-North Korea border, is a valley scenic area. With alpine meadows and mountains covered in colorful forests, it’s free from large tour groups and offers a truly pristine atmosphere—a limited-time beauty that only lasts for half a month each year. This isn't an artificial "influencer" hotspot; the entire valley retains its raw, natural appearance. Alpine grasslands at an altitude of over 1,000 meters stretch out, with birch and maple trees intertwined in layers of red, orange, yellow, and green—what locals in the Northeast call "five-flower mountains." Cattle and sheep graze leisurely on the meadows, streams wind through the forest, and fallen leaves drift on the water. Standing in the mountains and looking out, when the weather is clear, you can even see the layered shadows of the mountains toward Changbai Mountain. Many visitors fall into a trap here: this isn't just a hiking destination. The scenic area is very large, so it's recommended to drive through the park. It's difficult to cover all the spots on foot, so please keep this in mind beforehand. ✨Must-visit spots ▪️Maple Leaf Wooden Bridge over the Creek The first area you reach upon entering. A wooden bridge spans the creek, surrounded by maple trees. When the autumn breeze blows, red leaves fall onto the water—perfect for shooting atmospheric slow-motion footage. Light-colored outfits look best in photos here. ▪️Grassland Swing Observation Deck With the "five-flower" mountains as a backdrop, the swing is a popular spot for viral photos. It's not just about the swing; standing here and overlooking the entire valley offers a wide view. The scenery has a different charm during the day versus at sunset. ▪️Alpine Meadow (Core Area) A vast, open grassland in the clouds, and a frequent hangout for cattle and sheep. The further you go, the fewer tourists there are, allowing you to quietly admire the mountains. However, there is quite a bit of cow dung on the grass, so please watch your step while walking and taking photos. Do not trample the vegetation or disturb the livestock. ▪️Maple Leaf Valley A valley concentrated with maple trees. The autumn red leaves are intense, and sunlight filtering through the leaves creates excellent light and shadow effects, perfect for experiencing the red-leaf forest up close. ▪️Mountain Top Observation Deck The highest point of the entire route, offering a 360° panoramic view of the rolling autumn scenery of the Laoling Mountains. At sunset, the mountains are bathed in a warm golden glow—the highlight of the day's scenery. 🚗Travel tips & pitfalls (real experience from those who've been) 📍Address: Laosandui Village, Huashan Town, Linjiang City, Baishan, Jilin (Navigation: Xigu Scenic Area) ⏰Opening hours: 7:30 AM–6:00 PM, last entry at 4:30 PM 🍁Best time to visit: September 20–October 5. The golden window is very short, so it's best to check real-time autumn photos from other travelers before you go to avoid disappointment. 💰Admission: CNY 50 on-site; there's a small discount for booking online in advance. Parking is CNY 10 per day. ▫️Transportation: Driving is preferred. It's a 30-minute drive from downtown Linjiang and about 4.5 hours from Changchun. The mountain roads have many curves, known as "elbow bends," so please drive slowly. Public transportation is very inconvenient with very few shuttle buses. It is not recommended to come without a car, or you can choose to charter a car after arriving in Linjiang. ▫️Signal: Mobile signal in the mountains is very poor! Be sure to download offline maps in advance and do not rely entirely on real-time navigation loading. ▫️Temperature difference: It's about 10 degrees cooler on the mountain than in the city. Even if it's sunny during the day, the wind is biting in the evening, so a thick, windproof jacket is a must. Choose non-slip shoes, as some sections have a lot of gravel. ▫️Facilities: There are almost no restaurants inside the scenic area and very few kiosks, so bring your own drinking water and snacks. There are very few restrooms, mainly concentrated in the alpine meadow area, so please take care of this before entering. ▫️Accommodation: You can stay in downtown Linjiang, where there are many hotel options with good value, and travel to and from the scenic area the next day. You can also choose farmhouses or "kang" (heated brick bed) homestays at the foot of the mountain. Be sure to book in advance during holidays. 💡Personal thoughts The beauty of the valley lies in its pristine nature, but you must also accept the reality of its simple facilities. It's not suitable for a rushed visit; it's recommended to set aside 2–3 hours to stroll slowly. You don't need to visit every single spot—find a meadow, sit down, watch the cattle and sheep wander, and see the sunset wash over the colorful forest. That is the true sense of relaxation that autumn in the border mountains should have. If you are planning to come to Northeast China for autumn during the National Day holiday and don't want to squeeze into popular scenic spots with large crowds, Linjiang Valley is worth adding to your list.

Tried and tested: A Liaoning-Jilin eastern loop road trip perfect for beginners~🚗 Three types of landscapes, connected by one road. This is an in-depth autumn sightseeing route in Northeast China. The landscapes of Huanren, the breeze of G331, the blue of Heaven Lake, and the tranquility of Longwan are all showcased along this route. 🔸Day 1 Shenyang → Huanren Take the expressway, 2.5 hours to Huanren. Travel tips: 1. Wunü Mountain: Hike to the top for an overlook of Huanlong Lake. Go a day early for a chance to see the sunrise over a sea of clouds. 2. Hugu Gorge: Gorge + Huilong Lake, the scenery rivals that of Guilin. Accommodation: Huanren County Food: Lamb soup 🔸Day 2 Huanren → Waypoint: Hunjiang Great Bend Observation Deck → Ji'an Start driving G331 from Huanren today, bypassing the Dandong section (too many winding mountain roads). Travel tips: There are free observation decks along the way. You can stop by the Hunjiang Great Bend; the scenery is all along the road. Accommodation: Ji'an Food: BBQ, river fish at a farmhouse restaurant, iron pot stew—so fresh! 🔸Day 3 Ji'an City → Linjiang Continue driving northeast along G331. Slow down the pace once you reach Linjiang. Travel tips: Wake up early to visit the morning market; morning markets in small Northeast towns are more interesting than the tourist attractions. The Yalu River widens here, and the scenery on the opposite bank is full of mystery. 🔸Day 4 Linjiang → Changbai Mountain Changbai Mountain: Seniors and children should take the North Slope; the facilities are mature and it's less strenuous. For young people, I recommend the West Slope; it's less crowded, offers wider angles, and provides that stunning view of Heaven Lake unfolding right before your eyes. Accommodation: Erdaobaihe Town Food: Yanbian BBQ, beef soup with rice, fried chicken... 🔸Day 5 Erdaobaihe → Longwan Scenic Area (the "Little Jiuzhaigou" of the Northeast) Travel tips: 1. Longwan has two routes: Dalongwan + Diaoshuihu Waterfall are suitable for seniors and children, with easy trails and open lake views. 2. If you want a panoramic view, the overlook at Sihai Longwan is better. 3. Head to Sifangdingzi in the evening to watch the sunset; autumn forests paired with the sunset allow you to deeply experience autumn in the Northeast. Accommodation: Sifangdingzi Hotel Food: Corn noodles, instant noodles, and roasted corn are available at the summit 🔸Day 6 Sifangdingzi → Meihekou The pace changes once you reach Meihekou, switching from nature back to the city. Spend the day exploring Zhibei Village, take a walk along Hailong Lake in the evening, visit the "Never Sleeping City" night market, and wrap up with skewers and snacks. Accommodation: Meihekou 🔸Day 7 Meihekou → Shenyang Take the Shenji Expressway for 2.5 hours back to Shenyang, arriving home just in time to rest😴 ⚠️Important reminder For the Linjiang → Changbai Mountain section, do not navigate directly to "Changbai Mountain" or "Erdaobaihe". You must set waypoints: Badaogou Town → Changbai County → Ershidaogou Village → Changbai Mountain South Slope Scenic Area Gate → Manjiang Town (West Slope) → Erdaobaihe Town (North Slope). This route follows the river the entire way and has good road conditions. If you don't set these waypoints, the GPS will automatically navigate you to a logging road in a forest farm, which is in poor condition and has no signal. ✅Drive the new G331 the entire way; the road conditions are beginner-friendly, and parking areas are equipped with charging stations, so there's no range anxiety for electric vehicles 📶Signal on the G331 is unstable; download offline maps in advance 🧣There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in September and October; bring warm clothing

I just finished driving the G331 and arrived in Linjiang. Let me give you a heart-to-heart about my real experience! The Yalu River scenery and the alpine meadows in the forest are truly stunning, but the travel conditions are a real test. The scenery is gorgeous, but there are quite a few practical downsides! 🚗 [Transportation tips] ⚠️ If you want to come to Linjiang, driving yourself is the priority! Public transportation is terrible. The high-speed railway station is in Baishan, and it takes another 1.5–2 hours to get to Linjiang. Taxis are convenient within the city, but suburban attractions like Xigu, Laotudingzi, and Songling Snow Village are very far away, separated by dozens of kilometers with many winding mountain roads, and there are no direct tourist shuttles. I don't recommend coming if you aren't driving. Carpooling is expensive, and avoid unlicensed taxis on the side of the road, as they often overcharge. Driving along the G331 National Highway allows you to stop at riverside viewpoints whenever you want to take photos, which doubles the experience. 😌 [Real travel experience] The Yalu River water is crystal clear and green. Driving along the riverside road with green mountains on one side and the river on the other, looking across the river at the foreign scenery, the atmosphere is perfect. Taking a walk in Jiangxindao Park in the evening is super comfortable; watching the sunset by the river and feeling the cool river breeze is great. The Siba Linjiang Memorial Hall is a meaningful place to learn about revolutionary history, and admission is free. The Xigu Scenic Area has dense forests that look like a "Little Altay," the alpine meadows of Laotudingzi are vast and open, and if you're lucky, you can see a sea of clouds. Songling Snow Village is very rustic and original, with almost no commercialization and very few people. But to be honest! The attractions are scattered, which is a headache. Most of the time is spent rushing on winding mountain roads, and driving is tiring. The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is huge; it's warm during the day but cools down instantly in the evening. Some suburban facilities are basic, and there are few convenience stores. This is suitable for friends who like self-driving and prefer mountain scenery; if you want a relaxing vacation, you will find it a real hassle. 🍲 [Authentic local food] Try to avoid restaurants around the scenic areas; old shops in the city and the Binjiang Night Market offer great value! ✅ Yalu River stewed fish: The fish is tender and the broth is fragrant; you must try it when you come to the border. ✅ Korean-style hot pot (Gaoli Huopen): Beef, vegetables, and vermicelli grilled in one pot; it's hot, satisfying, and the portions are huge. ✅ Korean-style rice cakes and blood sausage: Soft, sticky, and sweet; you can buy them at street stalls. ✅ Iron pot stewed chicken with mushrooms: A hearty Northeast dish; the hazel mushrooms soak up the broth, and eating the meat is very satisfying. ✅ Wild vegetable platter: Local wild side dishes that are refreshing and help cut through the grease if you've been eating too much meat. 💡 [Travel tips] 1. Must-read! Do not take photos of military facilities on the opposite bank in border areas, and drones are prohibited from taking off! 2. The temperature difference in the mountains is huge; a thin jacket is a must, even in September–October, it will be very cold at night. 3. There are many winding mountain roads; slow down when driving, and be cautious when driving small cars on some country roads. 4. The UV rays are strong and there are many mosquitoes in the mountains; be sure to prepare sunscreen and mosquito repellent. 5. The memorial hall is closed on Mondays; check the opening hours before you go to avoid a wasted trip. 6. Supplies are scarce in the suburbs; carry drinking water and small snacks with you, and some farmhouses only accept cash. 7. Choose accommodation in Linjiang city for convenient dining and shopping, and remember to book your room in advance on weekends. The landscape of Linjiang is truly irreplaceable; the green water, forest seas, and meadows are quiet and uncrowded, making it worth visiting to experience the unique charm of this border town. But you must do your homework, prioritize self-driving, lower your expectations, and don't expect a relaxing, lazy vacation, and you will have a great trip!
