The large glass windows of the Swiss-made gondola offer a 360-degree view of Hakone, making it hard to believe that this place is only a few hours from Tokyo. The station on the way is Owakudani Station, which is a well-known hot spring area where you can still see traces of volcanic activity in addition to overlooking Mount Fuji. The Hakone Ropeway is designed to be barrier-free, both in the carriages and at the station. Along the way, you can pass by Owakudani and Laozi, and you can get a bird's-eye view of the forest between Soun Mountain and Taoyuantai by Lake Ashi. At the heights between Soun Mountain and Dawong Valley, the cable car is 130 meters above the ground. The huge crater can be seen below, which is breathtaking. As you get closer to Umako and Togendai, you can see the panoramic view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji behind Mount Kinabalu and the four seasons from the cable car.Hakone · 8.5 km from downtown

Owakudani is a volcanic vent zone formed by Hakone volcanic activity approx. 3,000 years ago, with brown and yellow rocks exposed on the slopes, white steam constantly rising from springs and fumaroles, and the air filled with the scent of sulfur. It is also an important source for Hakone hot springs, where you can still see active geothermal phenomena today. There is an observation deck near the cable car station, from which you can see Mount Fuji and Mt. Kamiyama on clear days. The Kuro-tamago-kan showcases the process of making "black eggs" using hot spring water and geothermal steam, where the eggshells turn black due to a chemical reaction with the hot spring components, and there is a local legend that eating one can extend your life by seven years. The facility also includes a souvenir shop. The Owakudani Nature Trail is approx. 700m long, allowing you to observe the volcanic vent zone up close and learn about the volcanic geology through information boards along the way. The observation deck at the end of the trail offers views of the Hakone mountains and Mount Fuji.Hakone · 7.8 km from downtown

Odawara Castle

Odawara Castle in the center of Odawara was the residence of the Hojo clan, the princes who dominated the Kanto region during the Warring States Period. Built in 1495, Odawara Castle has served as the political center of the southern Kanto region for nearly a hundred years. In 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi obtained the right to rule over most of Japan and began to actively attack the unwilling Hojo clan (known as the Odawara Conquest). His relationship with Odawara Castle has since ended. After entering the Edo period of the Tokugawa shogunate, Odawara Castle was located between Tokyo, Hakone, and the Izu Peninsula. It was an important road between Edo and Kyoto, and its strategic position was very important. Tokugawa Ieyasu appointed his confidant, Tadashi Okubo, as the castle lord to protect the safety of the Edo area. After Okubo Tadashi took office, he built many more castles and strengthened protective measures. The castle that you see now was restored in 1960. The 60-meter-high castle tower overlooks the Boso Peninsula and the Izu Peninsula. There are permanent exhibitions inside the castle tower, displaying various materials related to the history of Odawara.Odawara · 10.1 km from Ashigarashimo District

Mount Fuji, which means "volcano" in Japanese, spans Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. This mountain, regarded as the "Holy Mt." by the Japanese, has been dormant since its eruption in 1707. This dormant volcano is a symbol of Japan. Of course, if you want to experience the natural scenery of Mt. Fuji and its surroundings up close, the Fuji Five Lakes area under the northern mountain of Mt. Fuji is a good choice. The reflection of Mt. Fuji in Kawaguchi Lake is a very classic scene, it is worth seeing, the nearby Oshino Hachi The sea is also famous. Peace Park in the southeast is a good choice for viewing Mount Fuji. On a sunny day and there is no cloud cover, you can clearly see the conical peak of Mount Fuji. In autumn and winter, you can also see the snow on the top of the mountain, which is particularly beautiful. Every year from mid-September to mid-October, the top of Mount Fuji begins to snow, and it will not melt until around June of the following year, and the residual snow can even be seen in mid-July. You can climb Mount Fuji in July and August, and the mountain will be closed in other seasons. There are four main mountain climbing entrances on Mount Fuji, namely Fujinomiyaguchi, Sugoguchi, Gotembaguchi, and Fujiyoshida (Kawaguchiko) entrance. The first three are all in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is divided into 10 stages from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. Each stage is called a "station", and there is a place for tourists to rest. Most tourists take the bus from Lake Kawaguchi to the fifth station of Mount Fuji on the middle of the mountain, and then start from here. mountaineering. Climbing to the top of Mount Fuji, you can see a beautiful volcanic lake formed by two craters, surrounded by 8 peaks. Along the crater tour, there is a weather station, which is the commanding height of Japan. You may wish to take a group photo. There are two shrines, namely Kusushi Shrine and Sengen Shrine. There is also a post office on the top of the mountain, where you can send a postcard to friends and relatives. . In addition, watching the sunrise on Mount Fuji will be an unforgettable and beautiful experience. In addition to Mount Fuji itself, the scenery around the mountain is also very good. There are caves left after the volcanic eruption at the northern foot of the mountain, with various shapes and shapes, and some of them will continue to exhale. Among them, the walls of the Fuyue Feng Cave are covered with stalactite-like icicles, which are called "Wannianxue". The southern foothills is a vast plateau pasture with beautiful scenery all year round, and there are many places for leisure activities, such as camping, swimming and fishing in summer, and skiing and skating in winter.Fujinomiya · 34.1 km from Ashigarashimo District

Lake Ashi is beautiful. This time, I saw Mount Fuji every day. The blue sky and white clouds offered a distant view of Mount Fuji, and I could also see the Hakone Shrine floating on the water. According to the introduction, Lake Ashi is the most beautiful crater lake in Hakone.

I made a special trip to visit Odawara Castle, a legendary stronghold from the Sengoku period known for its impregnability. While the castle tower is a later reconstruction, the historical materials inside are substantial. Ancient documents and a sand table vividly recreate the Battle of Odawara, allowing you to imagine the 100-day siege by Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army. The top floor offers a panoramic view of Sagami Bay, with mountains and sea stretching out before you. The entire castle is now a city park, quiet and not overcrowded. The stories of the five Hojo dynasties unfold quietly here, and the history of the "Odawara Pacification" evokes profound emotions. An hour is just right for exploring the castle tower, perfect for Sengoku history enthusiasts. Compared to the bustling Osaka Castle, this place possesses a more serene and profound atmosphere; standing by the walls, you can almost feel the last echoes of the Sengoku period in the Kanto region.

Price is about the same as buying over the counter, except that we didnt have to queue in line. It's basically a skywalk with a nice view of Mt Fuji. Skywalk seems new. There were also ziplines right beside the skywalk that kids were playing (requires additional cost to play). Across the bridge, there were some food stalls, restaurant and an animal petting store. Overall good for about 2hours.

Chose to visit the Mount Fuji Instagram-famous spots on Trip.com's recommendation, and I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. The itinerary included memorable locations such as Arakurayama Sengen Park, Hikawa Clock Shop, Oshino Hakkai, Kawaguchiko Lawson, and Lake Kawaguchi Oishi Park—each offering its own breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji. Our tour guide (Hikari) truly made the trip special: not only was he friendly, but he was also impressively patient throughout the day, making sure everyone felt comfortable and had enough time to enjoy each spot. The pace of the tour was just right, allowing for leisurely sightseeing and ample opportunities for taking photos—perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments! If you're considering this day trip, I recommend bringing your camera and a light jacket, as weather around Mt. Fuji can change. The service from Trip.com was smooth and easy, making the whole experience stress-free.
