Museum Island

Museum Island is located in the center of Berlin, a museum complex at the northern end of Spree Island, with the river flowing around both sides. In 1999, this complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the southern end, the Altes Museum faces the Berlin Cathedral across the tree-lined Lustgarten. Moving northward, the Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, and Pergamon Museum are lined up in order, with the Bode Museum completing the island's tip. These five buildings, constructed in different eras with distinct styles, form a continuous riverside ensemble, allowing visitors to explore a complete exhibition route on foot. Each museum has its own strengths. The Altes Museum in Berlin, completed in 1830, features a neoclassical facade designed by architect Schinkel, supported by rows of stone columns. Its grand domed hall primarily houses ancient Greek and Roman artworks. The Neues Museum suffered severe damage during World War II and intentionally retained some war scars during its 2009 renovation. It now hosts the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, with the painted bust of Queen Nefertiti as its star attraction. The Alte Nationalgalerie focuses on 19th-century paintings, showcasing both Caspar David Friedrich's romantic landscapes and works by French impressionists like Manet, Monet and Renoir. The Pergamon Museum is renowned for full-scale reconstructions of ancient structures, with the Pergamon Altar, Market Gate of Miletus and Ishtar Gate of Babylon as its signature exhibits. The Bode Museum combines sculpture collections, Byzantine art and hundreds of thousands of ancient coins within a Baroque building. When not visiting exhibitions, strolling on the island is equally delightful: street musicians often perform in the gardens, offering a perfect chance to rest and listen before walking to the bridge to admire the unique urban scenery of five museums lining the riverbank. △The Pergamon Museum is undoubtedly one of the most popular museums and also one of the world's renowned archaeological museums. The solemn and majestic gray building exterior easily evokes associations with various ancient architectures. Upon entering through the central gate, the left side houses the ancient Roman and Greek collections, while the right side features the ancient Near East exhibition. The second floor is dedicated to Islamic culture. The museum's crown jewel—the Pergamon Altar—is not to be missed. Dating back to the 2nd century BCE, this 9.66 m high altar features exquisitely carved deity figures on its base. Additionally, the Market Gate of Miletus from the 2nd century BCE and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon are also highly worth seeing. △The old museum in Berlin opened in 1830 and is a historic museum on Museum Island. This museum follows the neoclassical architectural style, with its facade supported by 18 parallel columns. The main hall inside is spherical, topped by a striking large circular dome. The old museum displays a rich collection of ancient Greek and Roman art treasures. △At the old national art gallery, you can admire masterpieces by impressionist masters such as Manet, Monet, and Renoir. △The Bode Museum is located on the outer side of Museum Island, built between 1898 and 1904. This Baroque-style building features a triangular layout and houses three unique small museums: the German Byzantine Art Museum, showcasing various artistic masterpieces from the Byzantine Empire; the Coin Museum, displaying 500,000 ancient coin exhibits; and the Sculpture Museum, which houses Germany's premier collection of medieval sculptures. △The new museum in Berlin was built in 1855 and was severely damaged in the bombings of World War II, leaving it in ruins. After reopening in 2009, it serves as the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, featuring exhibits such as the bust of Nefertiti, wife of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten, and other artworks from the Akhenaten period. Additionally, the new museum displays unearthed artifacts from prehistoric times, ancient history, and the Stone Age. △Besides visiting museums, strolling and relaxing on Museum Island is also a great choice. The lush Lustgarten offers a beautiful environment, and street performers playing lovely music add to the charming scenery. When tired, you might as well sit down and enjoy it.Germany · Berlin

Charles Bridge

The Charles Bridge connects the old town and the small town of Prague. It is a landmark building in Prague, and it is also the oldest stone bridge in the city. It is often said that "you have come to Prague by crossing this bridge". Inscribed on the World Heritage List This is a Gothic stone bridge imitating the Roman Angel Bridge, and it is the only way for the coronation procession of the kings of the past dynasties. In 1992, the Charles Bridge was included in the World Heritage List. When it was first built, its name was "Stone Bridge". It is said that egg yolks are also mixed into the raw mortar for reinforcement. The open-air Baroque Statue Museum Charles Bridge is 516 meters long and has a particularly wide deck. The bridge is known as "Europe's open-air Baroque sculpture gallery". There are various sculptures and reliefs decorated on both sides of the bridge. There are a total of 30 saint sculptures, all of which are masterpieces from Czech masters of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is said that behind each statue there is a touching historical story. Statue of St. John Among the many statues on the Charles Bridge, the statue of St. John is the more famous one and is considered to be the "official" guardian of the Charles Bridge. St. John, a cardinal, offended the king because of the political and religious struggle, and was sentenced to death and thrown into the river. A golden cross is engraved in the middle of the fence, where St. John was thrown from the bridge. Touch the statue and pray for happiness It is said that as long as you touch the statue of Charles Bridge with your heart, you will get a lifetime of happiness. Many bronze reliefs become very bright because too many people touch them. Most of the sculptures on the bridge have now been replaced by replicas, while the originals are kept in Prague's museums. Street artists on the bridge In addition to various statues, the street artists on the bridge are also a unique landscape. There are art painting booths on both sides of the bridge, and many street painters paint on the spot, and most of the themes are taken from the Charles Bridge. In addition, there are some artistic workers who perform with musical instruments, bringing infinite vitality to the Charles Bridge. The bridge tower overlooks the beauty of Prague There are two bridge towers at both ends of the Charles Bridge - the Old Town Bridge Tower and the Small Town Bridge Tower. You can climb the bridge tower and overlook the Charles Bridge and the city of Prague, which is even more beautiful when the sun sets in the evening.Czech Republic · Prague

Old Town Square

No "wishing pool" yet still stunning "I stood in the Old Town Square at dusk in Prague, casting hope into the wishing well..." You must have heard Jolin Tsai's "Prague Square," a song depicting the Old Town Square surrounded by medieval architecture. However, the reality is there is no "wishing well" mentioned in the lyrics, but the fairy-tale atmosphere here is enchanting enough. The Old Town Square was built approx. 900 years ago and is a historically renowned square in Prague, located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge. It is also the heart of the city, bustling with crowds every summer. Public square highlights At the center of the square stands a statue of Jan Hus built in 1915, erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the Charles University rector. The surrounding buildings showcase diverse architectural styles, ranging from Gothic masterpieces like the Church of Our Lady before Týn to Baroque gems such as St. Nicholas Church. A major attraction for visitors is the Prague astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall facade. On the hour, the clock chimes as windows above it open, revealing a procession of 12 apostle figures that bow to the crowd. If interested, you can also climb the tower of the old town hall to overlook the panoramic view of the old town. The roofs in the city are almost all painted red, while the slightly protruding spires of clock towers and churches are green. They are scattered yet orderly throughout the city, and the vivid colors give Prague a fairy-tale charm. Public square activity The old town square is not only a popular tourist destination but also frequently used for new year celebrations, holiday markets (Christmas and Easter) and rally activities. On ordinary days, there are many street performers in the square, and many local youth come here to take wedding photos. The square is surrounded by many cafes. If you're tired from exploring, you can order a coffee at an outdoor cafe, and don't miss the grilled sausages and ice cream. Enjoying the music and dance performances on the square is truly refreshing. The alleys around the square are lined with small shops selling various art goods—if you like them, you can buy some as souvenirs.Czech Republic · Prague

The Roman Forum is the historic heart of the old town of Frankfurt. Since the Middle Ages, it has served as a public center for municipal administration, commerce, and celebrations, and the coronation banquets of emperors during the Holy Roman Empire were once held at the Römer City Hall here. This building complex features stepped gables of varying heights, creating a striking silhouette. A row of half-timbered houses with bright colors and diverse styles serves as a typical representation of the German old town streetscape. In the center stands the Fountain of Justice, with the goddess holding a pair of scales in one hand and a sword in the other, adding a sense of solemnity. The building complex was damaged in 1944 and rebuilt according to its historical appearance, and subsequent construction projects reconnected the entire old town. Looking around, the medieval-style building complex and the modern high-rises rising in the distance appear in the same frame, creating a view where the new and the old reflect each other. During the Christmas season, the historic Christmas market spreads out here with a sea of lights and clusters of wooden huts, creating a rich festive atmosphere.Germany · Frankfurt

Main Rivernot only connects many historic and cultural cities in Germany, but also links natural scenery, wine culture, and modern urban views, creating a rich and diverse riverside landscape. Along the upper and parts of the middle reaches of the river, the scenery on both banks is tranquil and beautiful, with rolling hills, dense woodlands, and vast vineyards complementing each other. Visitors can stop at riverside viewpoints, taste local wines, and enjoy the view of the river flowing slowly through valleys and vineyards. Especially at dusk, the setting sun casts a warm glow over the river, hills, and town buildings, creating a leisurely and romantic atmosphere. The river continues westward through the Spessart forest region, where natural landscapes and riverside townscapes constantly alternate.Germany · Zellingen

Reichstag Building

533 reviews
Reichstag Building is both the seat of the Bundestag and an iconic local historical and political building. Built from 1884–1894, the building retains the solemn classical style of the 19th century, with the inscription "To the German People" engraved on the pediment of the main entrance. The republic was proclaimed here in 1918, and the Reichstag fire of 1933 and historical milestones of 1945 all took place here, encapsulating the trajectory of modern history. The renovated glass dome is a popular feature: two spiral ramps intertwine, and a central inverted conical mirror device directs daylight into the plenary chamber below, allowing the public to walk above the parliamentary hall, which carries a unique design significance. Walking slowly up the ramps leads to an observation platform over 40m high, offering a bird's-eye view of the city. After dark, the dome is illuminated from within, becoming a striking landmark in the city's nightscape, and the interior also features exhibits showcasing the history of the parliament.Germany · Berlin

The Vltava River is the mother river of the Czech Republic. It originates from the forests of southwestern Bohemia and joins the city of Mirnik in the north of the capital Prague and the Elbe River. The second symphonic poem in the Czech symphonic poem "My Motherland" is a picturesque scene depicting the river. The beautiful Vltava River divides Prague into two parts, with the Old Town and the New Town on the east bank and the Small Town on the west bank. There are more than a dozen ancient or modern bridges across the river, connecting the urban areas on both sides of the river. Among them, the Charles Bridge, which connects the old town and the small town of Prague, is decorated with various sculptures and reliefs on both sides of the bridge. You can stroll along the Vltava River and enjoy the scenery of the medieval city on both sides. Or take a cruise and see the beauty of Prague from a different angle. There are cruise boats along the river pier in the city center. The boat journey is usually about 1 hour. Along the way, you can overlook the Prague Castle, Rudolph Concert Hall and other iconic sights.Czech Republic · Prague

Old Townis situated on both banks of the Vltava in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and is a core component of Prague's historic center. This area was built between the 11th and 18th centuries, and the Old Town, Lesser Town, and New Town have been renowned for their profound architectural and cultural influence since the Middle Ages. Old Town Square is the heart of the entire area. Located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge, it has served as a site for markets and celebrations since the Middle Ages and is now the center of the entire Old Town. The square is surrounded by numerous attractions: the Church of Our Lady before Týn, with its grey-black twin spires, is a representative example of Gothic architecture, and it appears even more mysterious when illuminated at night.Czech Republic · Prague

Berlin Wall Memorial

Berlin Wall Memorial is the core site for commemorating the local history of division. The border fortifications built in 1961 were mostly demolished after the border opened in 1989, but this memorial park has preserved a section of the original site intact. A section of the fortifications, dozens of meters long, remains in its original state within the park: an empty isolation zone lies between the west-facing outer wall and the east-facing inner wall, with a watchtower standing to the side, demonstrating the structure of the border defense facilities from that era. Looking down from the observation deck of the Documentation Center, you can get a direct sense of the historical reality. The "Window of Remembrance" displays photos of the victims; the Chapel of Reconciliation, rebuilt on the original site, carries historical memories; sections where the wall has disappeared are marked by rust-colored steel posts indicating its path. Looking at them from an angle, the steel posts form a line, as if a wall has been re-erected, creating an artistic space that combines historical solemnity with commemorative significance.Germany · Berlin

Brandenburg Gate

The Place de Paris has been a popular tourist destination since the 18th century, and was once known as "The King's Reception Room". It is a square in the center of Berlin, inside the Brandenburg Gate. The war leveled most of the square in Paris, only the Brandenburg Gate survived. After continuous capital investment, the square slowly returned to its former glory. Beginning Brandenburg Gate is a gate in the Berlin city wall, named after the entrance to Brandenburg. The reconstructed Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of the Cold War, is now a testimony to the reunification of Germany. The Brandenburg Gate is 26 meters high and is a neoclassical sandstone building modeled after the gates of the Acropolis. The flat roof is supported by 12 pillars, 6 on each side of the east and west. There is a wall between the front and rear pillars, which divides the gatehouse into 5 gates. The passage in the middle is slightly wider. It is designed for the passage of royal family members. Only the royal family and guests invited by the royal family can pass. The inner wall of the gate is painted with reliefs of Hercules, the great hero of Roman mythology, Mars, the god of war, and Minova, the protector of artists and craftsmen. In addition, the north and south wing houses connected to the Brandenburg Gate gatehouse were used for guards and checkpoints. After the Berlin City Wall was demolished, it was converted into an open column hall to match the style of the Brandenburg Gate. Today's Brandenburg Gate and Paris Square have become Berlin's city symbols and are visited by tourists from all over the world every day. There are many street performers performing here every day in the square. You can take a photo with the "big soldier" who is covered in copper paint, and let the street artist paint a portrait for you. Or you can take a horse-drawn carriage to tour the whole square. Of course these all require additional fees. Due to its special status in Berlin and even Germany, the Brandenburg Gate has become the venue for many celebrations in Germany. Every year on December 31st, an open-air New Year's party will be held here. When the square and the street are full of people, a grand live performance will be held on the stage to add to the fun, and people will welcome the New Year together in the fireworks tour at midnight. . In addition, the world's largest electronic music festival is held in front of the Brandenburg Gate every July, if you happen to be traveling at this time, you can join it.Germany · Berlin

Charles Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Prague and a wonderful place to visit. The historic stone bridge is full of beautiful statues and offers amazing views of the Vltava River, Prague Castle, and the city’s old buildings. I enjoyed walking across the bridge, watching local artists, musicians, and street performers, which created a lively atmosphere. The bridge is especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the light makes the scenery even more impressive. It is also a great place to take photos and enjoy the city’s history. Overall, Charles Bridge is a must-visit attraction that combines history, culture, and beautiful views, making it one of the highlights of any trip to Prague.

Prague's Old Town Square doesn't have a wishing well, but when the Astronomical Clock strikes the hour, the twelve apostles' figures emerge from the windows, always drawing a large crowd. The spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn are a dark gray, like two flames. Pigeons perch on the Jan Hus statue in the center of the square year-round. Turning into the alleyways, you can buy cinnamon rolls, piping hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar. In the evening, as the lights come on, the sound of horse-drawn carriages crunching on the cobblestones is crisp and clear; sitting in an open-air seat watching people come and go is quite relaxing.

There are so many things that come to mind when you think of the Czech Republic, but I think the Old Town is the most famous tourist attraction in the Czech Republic. The floor is paved with uneven stones, so if you wear high heels or shoes and walk... it feels painful just thinking about it. There are so many delicious things to see in the Old Town, so I want to go there again.ㅠㅠ
