Mianshan Scenic Spot
Mianshan Scenic Area is located 20 kilometers southeast of Jiexiu City. Surrounding the area are magnificent cliffs, cypress and pine trees, making for a beautiful landscape. Jiexiu Houtu Temple
Jiexiu Houtu Temple is a Taoist temple located in the northwest corner of Jiexiu County. It is one of the key cultural relics protection units in Shanxi Province. Jiexiu Houtu Temple is a huge building complex with five courtyards and pavilions. In this building complex, there are shadow walls, mountain gates, crossing halls, east and west corridor rooms, Sanqing Building, Bell and Drum Tower, and the rear hall. The main building in the Houtu Temple is a building with a triple eaves cross Xieshan and a roof structure. On the top of the building, the dragon's kiss is towering; the lion decoration, the glazed pavilion, the lotus ridge tube, and the beast's head and horns reflect each other, forming a vivid and spectacular picture of glazed products. In the Houtu Temple, there are nearly a thousand painted sculptures on the hanging wall reflecting the content of Taoism. These statues, with extremely high shaping techniques, have reached a considerable artistic realm. These painted sculptures have vivid images, different postures, smooth clothing lines, plump images and natural expressions. They are rare masterpieces of painted sculpture art. Xianshen Tower
Located in Jiexiu City, Zoroastrian God Tower, also known as Xuanshen Tower and Yaoshen Tower, is a pavilion-style building that combines a gatehouse, a music tower and a street crossing tower. Zoroastrian God Tower was originally part of the Zoroastrian Temple, which was destroyed in the 11th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1532). It was converted into the Sanjieyi Temple during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. The Zoroastrian God Tower was built in the 50th year of Qianlong (1786).The front of the Zoroastrian building is in the shape of a "convex" character, with a total depth of 20 meters. The street-passing building protruding from the corridor is three bays wide and three bays deep. The wider part, the music building inside the temple, is five bays wide and four bays deep. There are corridors around it, and the space is spacious. The flat platform at the waist of the mountain gate is connected to the flat platform of the street-passing building, and the floor is laid on it, forming a music building for offering sacrifices to the gods in the temple.The temple's interior and exterior are both two-story, and together with the terrace and the double eaves on the upper floor, it is four stories high. Pingyao Ancient City is approx. 85 km from Taiyuan. The streets, shops, and residences within the ancient city still maintain their traditional layout and appearance, making it one of the best-preserved ancient cities in China. It is highly recommended to stay overnight in the ancient town to enjoy its night view. You can also rent a bicycle to explore the small alleys and experience the authentic Pingyao, where the local culture and customs or photography make excellent subjects. Especially during the Chinese New Year, Pingyao is full of festive atmosphere. The town features old courtyards converted into inns, which are usually affordable, with clean and tidy accommodations available for just a few dozen yuan. Additionally, Pingyao is renowned for its beef. In the late Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi passed through Pingyao and was so fond of the local beef after tasting it that she designated it as a royal tribute. Shops bearing the name "Guanyun beef" can be seen everywhere in the ancient town, making it hard to distinguish authenticity, and prices are generally high. Yunfeng Temple
Yunfeng Temple, also known as Baofuyan, is located in the heart of Mianshan Mountain. Originally called Baofu Temple, it was built by imperial decree during the Zhenguan reign of the Tang Dynasty (627-649) and rebuilt in the 11th year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty (1516). It underwent numerous renovations during the Qing Dynasty. Extant ancient buildings include the Kongwang Hall, the Thousand Buddha Hall, the Jietui Shrine, the Five Dragons Hall, the Mingwang Hall, the Maming Hall, the Arhat Hall, the Eyesight Bodhisattva Hall, and nearly 100 other rooms, including monks' quarters and guesthouses. Free admission. Most of the buildings date back to the Ming Dynasty, with some from the Yuan Dynasty. This is a massive Taoist architectural complex with resplendent glazed tile roofs. The integrated architectural style of the Sanqing Hall, stage, and offering hall is extremely rare. The conjoined temples of Lü Zu, Guan Yu, and the Earth God are unique in China. These features alone are enough to make a detailed visit worthwhile. It's a fantastic place for taking photos; five-star recommendation!
Scenery: The buildings and glazed tile roofs are incredibly beautiful.
Fun: A perfect spot for taking photos.
Value for money: Extremely high.

Although this place is still some distance away from the main urban area, there are buses to get there, or you can choose other ways to get there like I did. The entire archway is still very shocking. When you walk in, you will feel your own insignificance and the greatness of the wisdom of the ancients. The person looking at the archway is an aunt, who is sometimes a little like a rocket compared to the people outside.

I specifically called the Culture and Tourism Bureau beforehand and was told it was open as usual, but when I arrived, I found I couldn't go in. There was a notice posted at the entrance stating that due to some peeling paint caused by summer rains, the building had been closed for repairs since November 4th. So I could only look at it from the outside!

I've been here twice and stayed at this place both times. It's very close to the main attractions, and the city tower is just around the corner. The courtyard has a great environment, and the accommodations are comfortable. The owner is very nice, and the vinegar is excellent; I always bring some with me when I come.

The Hall of All Wonders in the main hall of Daluo Palace is the eighth and ninth floor of the thirteen-story palace. The exhibition hall displays exquisite colored sculptures from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties in Mianshan, which is known as the "Dunhuang of Shanxi". Although the lights in the hall are dim, the colored sculptures are charming and you must take time to see them. The Sutra Pavilion on the top floor is the largest collection of books in China's scenic spots, but it is unfortunately not open to the public for the time being. It is said that the wood carvings, stone carvings and English, Japanese and Russian translations of the "Tao Te Ching" in the hall are a grand view of the culture of the "Tao Te Ching".
The total area of Daluo Palace is more than 30,000 square meters, the largest among all temples in the country. However, the date of its construction is unknown. The official record is that in the 11th year of Kaiyuan Period in Tang Dynasty (723 AD), Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty was grateful for the grace of the gods of Mianshan Mountain in protecting the Li Tang Dynasty, and he ordered the repair of the palaces in Daluo Palace. It was repaired many times in later dynasties until it was burned down by the Japanese army in 1940. The more than 60 halls seen now were rebuilt on the original site in 1998. This is why the Daluo Palace still retains its magnificent appearance with green walls and golden tiles today.
