Highlights: Zoucheng is the hometown of Mencius, a great thinker and educator in ancient China. Mencius Temple, also known as Yasheng Temple, is an ancient architectural complex with five courtyards with many temples inside. Yasheng Temple is the main building in the complex. The Mencius Residence is located on the west side of Mencius Temple. Its architectural layout is meticulous and it consists of seven courtyards. The front part of the Mencius Residence is the lobby, the middle is the inner house, the back is the garden and the west side is the “Sanqian Academy” of the Mencius family. There is also the Mencius Forest, also known as the Yasheng Forest, holding over ten thousand ancient trees. It is where Mencius was buried.
