There are still 16 grottoes, more than 4,000 statues, the grottoes are chiselled in the best stone rocks of Gushan with beautiful mountains and clear waters and beautiful environment. Xiangtangshan grottoes are divided into north and south, about 15 kilometers apart. In November 2012, Xiangtangshan Scenic Area was promoted to a national scenic spot. On March 4, 1961, Xiangtangshan Grottoes were announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units nationwide.
