To get to the Leshan Giant Buddha, here's the closest! most time-saving! and most cost-effective! route! Leshan Giant Buddha Definitely don't go unless you want to walk. If you take a taxi to the north gate, it can only drop you off at the tourist center. So you either pay for a sightseeing bus or walk on your own. So here comes the most cost-effective! fastest! and most convenient! detailed strategy. 1. You can take a taxi or a bus to Guichengshan Bus Station, or take a taxi to Mo'ershan Tunnel, see picture three. 2. Follow the path from Parking Lot 6 towards the inside (if you're driving, you can park directly inside the parking lot!), see pictures four and five. 3. Just walk inside, it's a bit desolate, don't be scared. When you reach the spot shown in picture six, someone will ask if you've bought a ticket. It's recommended to buy it online, 80 RMB per adult, don't pay more. There's also a man-made attraction trying to sell you tickets, but it's not necessary!! 5. Follow the road, there are actually signs along the way. Follow the road shown in picture eight to the end. Along the way, some shops might mark the way to the Giant Buddha, hoping you'll visit their shop, but it's not necessary, just walk to the end! Picture nine shows that you're almost there, just walk another 200 meters or so and you'll reach the entrance of the scenic area! The whole journey takes about 10 minutes! #chinatrip The giant Buddha is the main attraction but good luck getting a decent picture. There were people everywhere as usual as a national tourist trap like this one. If you are good with stairs you can walk all the way down to the bottom (about 24 floors high) and walk back up. I kindly declined the offer as my knees were already pretty swollen as this is the last day of our tour. As with most tourist areas, it is unfriendly to elderly and physically challenged individuals.

If you've watched the animated movie 'Abominable' then you've seen this exact location on screen before. The depiction in the film is great but it's truly breathtaking in person. This giant Buddha was carved into the side of the mountain as a sign of the people's devotion to Buddha. This has been an important site for Chinese royalty and citizens alike since before the Tang dynasty. The best way to get there is by bus or high speed train. I personally chose to take the train from Chengdu East station to Leshan station then hail a taxi which costs about 80RMB total each way. (50 for the train and 20-30 for the taxi). Once you arrive at the ticket booth you pay 80RMB for the mointain entrance and you can also see the Buddha statue from the river via ferry for an extra charge. To get from the ticket booth to the actual mountain is a about a kilometer and a half walk or you can pay 20RMB for a cart to take you. If you're already tired or have a long trip ahead of you, pay for the cart because you'll climb lots of stairs inside the mountain. Otherwise, just walk there because the view is beautiful on the way too. Trees, the river, and lots of cool places to eat, drink tea, or get a massage. The Giant Buddha area has caves to explore, temples to visit, and pagodas besides the actual Buddha. It's a wonderful experience but do wear comfortable shoes and come ready for a workout because it's a lot of walking to see everything! Leshan 2-Day Tour Upon arriving in Leshan, check into the Shanshui S Hotel. The hotel is located within the Leshan Giant Buddha scenic area, making it extremely convenient to go anywhere. The hotel incorporates Chinese design elements, with an academy-style ambiance that's quaint and elegant. The children's room is suitable for family trips, making the stay even more joyful for the little ones. The room is equipped with toys and a small tent, it's spacious and not expensive, making it very suitable for family trips. The hotel also has its own pool facilities and a garden, making it perfect for a family outing, ensuring both fun and comfort!

Took a fast train from Chengdu (45 minutes) and then a taxi from the station (20 minutes) to arrive and find out the buddah was closed! Was literally 50m from it, but couldn't see it at all. Due to heavy ('heavy') rain they had closed the attraction and all the boats had stopped. Due to the position in the cliff, you can't see any of it (not even a toe!) unless you enter the ticket section and it had all been closed. A big shame! Then took 3 hours in a car to get back to Chengdu. A disappointing experience! The ancient Leshan is located at the confluence of three rivers, where the Minjiang, Qingyi, and Dadu rivers converge at the foot of Lingyun Mountain. The confluence is turbulent, and every summer flood, the river hits the mountain wall, often causing shipwrecks and deaths. Haitong Zen master who practiced in Lingyun Mountain, vowed to carve a giant Buddha, hoping to rely on the Dharma to reduce the water's momentum and calm the waves forever. So he traveled all over the Yangtze River, the two lakes and the Huaihai Sea, raising manpower and financial resources, and began to carve the Buddha in 713 AD, and finally completed it in 803 AD (the 19th year of Tang Zhenyuan). The Buddha took 90 years, three generations of builders, and four emperors. It is the largest stone Buddha in the world and one of the masterpieces of ancient Chinese craftsmanship and carving art, reflecting the superb stone carving skills and artistic level of ancient China. The "Leshan Giant Buddha" is the common name for this Buddha by later generations, but in fact, this Buddha had a formal and standard name at the beginning of its construction in the Tang Dynasty. According to expert field investigations, the real name of this stone carving statue, commonly known as the "Leshan Giant Buddha" by later generations, is "Jiazhou Lingyun Temple Giant Maitreya Stone Statue". The head of the Leshan Giant Buddha is as high as the mountain, with a height of 14.7 meters and a width of 10 meters, 1051 buns, and ears 7 meters long. On the cliffs along the river on both sides of the Buddha, there are two guardian king statues over 16 meters high. You can go anywhere first, taxis are very convenient. 2️⃣ Leshan Giant Buddha: Follow 'Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area' ➡️ Leshan Giant Buddha River Cruise Ticket. There are two piers to choose from: Jiazhou Ferry Terminal and Wuyou Pier. There were no tickets available at Wuyou Pier on the day, so I went to Jiazhou Ferry. The cruise ships are very new. 3️⃣ Leshan Delicacies: Yingzi deep-fried snacks, Feng Sanjiao's Tilted Beef, Lei Sijiao's Egg Sponge Cake, Chuanmei's Fancy Ice Jelly, and Ju Popo's Cotton Ice. None of the foods I tried were disappointing. There's no such thing as 'internet-famous' stores; if it can survive locally, it's definitely delicious. 4️⃣ Deep-fried snacks: Di Baba's deep-fried snacks are not bad, but locals recommend Yingzi's, which is indeed a notch better.
