Changzhou's public bus system offers an extensive network that covers most of the urban area, with over 100 bus lines available for residents and visitors. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which started in 2008, is the first in Jiangsu province and includes lines such as BRT Line 1 and BRT Line 2, forming a crisscross-shaped network that facilitates efficient inner-city travel.

The Changzhou Metro, which began operations in 2019, provides a rapid transit option with Line 1 running from Forest Park to Nanxiashu and Line 2 connecting Qingfeng Park to Wuyi Lu. The metro system is expected to expand, with plans for more lines to enhance connectivity across the city.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Changzhou is from the middle of April through to September. During these months, the weather is hot, making it ideal for exploring the city's parks and temples at a leisurely pace. July is particularly warm with average temperatures around 29 °C, which can rise to 33 °C. However, visitors should be prepared for the humidity in August and bring sun protection and a refillable water bottle. It's also advisable to avoid the Chinese national holidays to escape the peak tourist seasons.

WeChat: Essential for communication and acts as a digital wallet for services such as meal ordering and taxi hailing.

DiDi Chuxing: Comparable to Uber, this app is used widely for ride-hailing across China and can be integrated with Alipay.

Mobile data packages for immigrants in China are available through local carriers such as China Mobile and Unicom. China Mobile offers prepaid data SIM cards with unlimited text messages and calls within China, and high-speed connections, sometimes even 5G. Unicom provides SIM cards with data packs that include unlimited music applications, and both do not require long-term contracts. Prices for eSIMs with unlimited data start at just $6 for China.

Public WiFi in China is widely available in places like airports, restaurants, coffee shops, and malls. However, connecting to these networks often requires a Chinese phone number for text verification, which can be a challenge for travelers without a local SIM card. Global WiFi devices like Skyroam can be a convenient alternative, offering the ability to connect multiple devices and requiring no additional setup upon arrival in China.

Changzhou experiences a Humid Subtropical climate, with hot and humid summers and cool winters. The city is subject to extreme heat hazards, and travelers should be prepared for high temperatures, especially during the summer months. It is advisable to wear lightweight, breathable clothing, and to stay hydrated. Sunscreen and hats are recommended to protect against intense sunlight.

In winter, temperatures can drop significantly, so warm attire is necessary. Due to the high humidity levels, which average around 73%, and moderate rainfall throughout the year, carrying an umbrella or raincoat is also a good idea.

For protection against extreme heat, it is important to seek shade during the hottest parts of the day, take regular breaks if engaging in outdoor activities, and be aware of the signs of heat stress. Monitoring local weather forecasts can help travelers prepare for any sudden changes in weather conditions.

In Changzhou, mobile payments via Alipay and WeChat Pay are the primary methods for transactions.

Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted for a wide range of services, and foreign tourists can link their international credit cards to these platforms. Cash is still usable, particularly for smaller vendors who may not accept mobile payments, and carrying some RMB is advisable. Major international credit cards like Visa and Mastercard are also accepted in many establishments.

Be mindful of potential transaction fees when using mobile payments or withdrawing cash from ATMs. For WeChat Pay, a 3% fee applies to single transactions over RMB 200. Always ensure that your mobile payment apps are set up properly before making transactions to avoid any inconvenience.

Why Did I Wait So Long? This Underrated Ancient-Style Theme Park in Changzhou is a Must-Visit! 🎇 — traveler post in Changzhou

Why Did I Wait So Long? This Underrated Ancient-Style Theme Park in Changzhou is a Must-Visit! 🎇

I seriously regret not coming sooner. Wansui Mountain Yancheng Park in Changzhou (formerly Yancheng Chunqiu Land) is a total hidden gem. Built against the backdrop of the 2700-year-old Spring and Autumn Yancheng ruins, it’s a brilliant fusion of traditional Chinese performance art, cyber-mecha aesthetics, mountain-side 'iron flower' displays, and free amusement rides. It doesn't just rely on roller coasters to draw a crowd; it pulls you straight into a legendary martial arts world the moment you step inside. The best part? The value for money is absolutely insane. 🎇 Why is it so underrated? ✅ Epic Mountain-side Iron Flowers: This is next-level. Molten iron heated to 1,000°C is struck into the air across multiple spots on Wuba Mountain, creating a cascade of golden sparks that is far more breathtaking than any standard fireworks display. ✅ Tradition Meets Cyberpunk: Featuring a 3.2m mechanical leopard, a 5m tall auspicious beast named 'Yanyan,' and interactive smart pets. It’s the ultimate spot to wear a Hanfu and take 'Cyber-Traditional' aesthetic photos—the results are stunning. ✅ Unlimited Free Rides: One ticket covers it all—the Speeding Dragon coaster, the Sun Wu Command Flying Island (offering a panoramic view of the ancient 'three cities and three rivers' layout), Zhaoguan River Rafting, and more. No hidden fees. ✅ Immersive NPC Interaction: The whole park is filled with NPCs to play games with. You can collect 'Spring and Autumn silver notes' to exchange for souvenirs, and catch Flower Goddess flash mobs and grand ancient-style parades throughout the day. 🎫 Practical Information 📍 Located in Wujin District, Changzhou. About a 10-minute taxi ride from Wujin High-Speed Rail Station, or accessible via shuttle from Yanzheng Avenue Metro Station. 🎫 Full-day tickets are around 55-60 RMB (includes the ruins park); night sessions are about 45 RMB. Free for children under 1.2 meters. ⏰ Recommendation: Head there in the afternoon to enjoy the rides and parades, then grab a spot for the iron flower show at dusk. The night session is the real highlight. 💡 Pro-tip: Wear a Hanfu for the best experience; arrive early to get a good view of the iron flowers; and check the official account for the daily performance schedule. A treasure trove of culture held back only by its name. Get there before it becomes overcrowded! 🎇

Every morning, we’d wake up, open the window, and see the endless sea of bamboo. The fresh air was so invigorating, and my little one was so excited, begging to go out and explore. 🏞️ 🏊‍♂️A Water Park for Family Fun💦 The hotel's outdoor pool was our family's favorite. With crystal-clear water surrounded by lush greenery, it felt like being in a tropical rainforest. Even better, the hotel provides professional lifeguards, so we could relax and enjoy some quality water time with our little one. After swimming, we could head to the hotel's hot springs to unwind—it was absolutely wonderful! 🔥 🍽️A Culinary Journey🍜 Speaking of food, the hotel's restaurant was a delightful surprise. Every dish incorporated local flavors, from fresh lake fish to authentic farm-style cooking—everything tasted amazing. I highly recommend their breakfast; it has a huge variety and is very nutritious. My little one loved it so much, they kept saying, "Mommy, I want to eat this again!" 😋 🎨The Perfect Blend of Art and Nature🎨 The hotel is full of design flair, with every detail reflecting the designer's ingenuity. From the geometric aesthetics of the lobby to the minimalist style of the guest rooms, it all exudes a low-key, elegant beauty. Walking through the hotel's light-and-shadow corridor felt like traveling through time, helping us momentarily forget all our worldly worries. In the evening, having a drink at the outdoor bar while gazing at the starry sky was truly one of life's great pleasures. 🌟 This trip to Liyang not only helped us relax our bodies and minds, but more importantly, it deepened the bond between our family members. Maoshan Forest World

We went on October 5th. The weather was great, and the environment on the mountain was lovely. However, many attractions required an additional fee, such as the thrill ride, family go-karting, and paintball. If you plan to do these, you might want to check if you can buy a combined ticket. Rafting cost 150 yuan per person, and even with raincoats, you'd get completely soaked, especially your shoes. Luckily, the staff warned us, so we didn't go rafting. The sightseeing train was 39 yuan per person, which wasn't cheap, but you had to wait at each stop, and there was no one to guide the queue; you had to grab your own spot, which was quite frustrating. The restaurants near the entrance were also mediocre. I thought Chinese food wouldn't be too bad, but I was proven wrong.

Tianning Pagoda

At first, I thought it was just one tower and it would cost fifty yuan, but once inside, I found there were many exhibits, quite exquisite and beautiful. Climbing to the top and enjoying the panoramic view of Changzhou was quite nice; you should definitely allow plenty of time!

Oriental Saltlake Resort

The Immortal City was so much fun! There were tons of NPCs and so many shows; one day wasn't nearly enough. I even missed the parade. I'll definitely go again next time. The afternoon I went, the entire Maoshan Mountain was shrouded in mist, like a fairyland. It truly lived up to the saying, "A mountain is not famous for its height, but for the immortals who dwell there."

Qingguo Lane

When visiting Changzhou, Qingguo Lane is a must-see. It's known as "One Qingguo Lane, Half the History of Changzhou," and also called the No. 1 Lane of Jiangnan Scholars. The old houses in Qingguo Lane are built along the river, with white walls and black tiles, exuding the charm of a Jiangnan water town. Here are some must-see spots in Qingguo Lane: **East Entrance Archway:** The three characters "Qingguo Lane" are very eye-catching, perfect for a photo opportunity. Also, past the archway to Zhuochu Bridge, there's a chinaberry tree that's the highlight of Qingguo Lane; its reflection in the river is incredibly photogenic. **Qingguo Lane Memory Museum:** A must-visit treasure trove, free to enter. This four-courtyard complex is filled with the historical memories of Qingguo Lane, offering many photo opportunities. It's closed at night, so be sure to go during the day! **Tang Jingchuan Memorial Hall:** A national cultural relic protection unit, it houses Changzhou's largest nanmu wood hall. Taking photos of the gatehouse of the three-courtyard complex with a telephoto lens is absolutely stunning! Zhou Youguang Library: The former residence of the father of Pinyin, the courtyard is tranquil and full of cultural atmosphere. The pond at the west entrance: The most photogenic spot in the neighborhood, the pond reflects the white walls and gray tiles of traditional Jiangnan houses, a popular spot for taking pictures. Overall, Qingguo Lane has a rich historical and cultural heritage while maintaining a lively atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to stroll and worth spending half a day exploring.

China Yancheng Chun-Qiu Tourist Area

The Spring and Autumn Period Yancheng Tourist Area, located in the central urban area of Wujin District, is a scenic area themed around the Spring and Autumn Period culture. Archaeological evidence confirms that the Yancheng site dates back over 2700 years, renowned for its unique "three cities and three rivers" city layout. It is the best-preserved surface city site from the Spring and Autumn Period in China to date, and is hailed as a "living fossil of Spring and Autumn Culture." What is "Yancheng"? One theory is that during the late Shang and early Zhou dynasties, the ruler of the Yan state migrated south, and the Yan ruler led his people to build a city here. In ancient times, "Yan" and "Yan" were interchangeable. Another theory is that during the late Spring and Autumn Period, Ji Zha, a prince of the Wu state, built a city in his fiefdom of Yanling to demonstrate his determination to remain there.

Yancheng Safari Park

My son loves driving the shuttle vehicles inside the park; they can even drive right into the area where the miniature train goes. The rides are tiring, the park is huge, and there are many different kinds of animals—it's a lot of fun!
