MM333918****: The hotel's location is superb, right inside Yuhou Street. The front desk lady was very quick with check-in. The room was clean, the mattress was just right – not too soft, not too hard – and the bathroom had stable water pressure with quick hot water. The shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner provided were complete and smelled great. It's excellent value for money, highly recommended!

重重新出發Rediscover Journey: Hotel location is very convenient to go, its actually in the complex of huoyu lane (后裕里) , with lots of restaurants as option, and also is few minute walking distance to 后裕街. Room is a bit small than expected we stayed there one night, but on the night we stayed, outside temperature was about 9c, we switched on aircon in cold mode of lowest 16c, but the whole night the room was so warm and we woke up and panel shows the room is 33c, we need to open the windows and curtain to sleep, yet there is a club next to hotel and was noisy at night...

CCandice Y.: Honestly, 100% recommended! If you’re staying in Chenzhou, this is the hotel to pick. The amenities and facilities are spotlessly clean and very new, and the entire staff is incredibly attentive and helpful. Location-wise, it’s a convenient 20-minute walk from Yuhou Street. A special thank you to Miss Zhang (张旭廷) for making my stay so wonderful and making me feel so welcomed. Because it was the low season, I was also treated to a lovely room upgrade (room 6666)! The breakfast was delicious and offered a very authentic taste of Chenzhou cuisine. I would definitely stay here again.

CCoco cat: The room was very clean. It's a business hotel, but that didn't detract from the experience at all. There were plenty of power outlets everywhere, so I could charge my devices easily. I stayed for two nights and received welcome fruit twice, with different varieties each time. The breakfast was genuinely good; the environment was clean, and there was a huge variety of food and drinks. Definitely worth the price!

__wfo090****: This stay was fantastic! I brought my kids here for a winter break trip, and the front desk staff was so thoughtful, providing children's slippers and toothbrushes. When we checked out, they even gave the kids a small gift bag with toys and snacks, which they loved. The housekeeping staff was also great, providing extra pillows and blankets for us. The hotel has a gym and laundry room on the same floor, which was very convenient to use. Food delivery was brought to our room by a robot, and I highly recommend the fish noodle soup for breakfast – the Hunan rice noodles were truly delicious! We'll definitely be back.

BBudaxihuanliupinglundeyouke: I frequently stay at Atour hotels when I travel, and their brand is generally quite reliable. Perhaps because it's the rainy season, there was a slight odor in the hallway when I entered. I have a small suggestion: since I drove there, getting from the underground parking lot to the hotel entrance was a bit inconvenient. It would be great if guests could be reminded about breakfast during check-in and to scan their parking ticket during check-out; this would enhance the overall experience. Overall, it was still a good stay. The front desk staff recommended a delicious private kitchen restaurant nearby, which was a nice bonus.

[Rainbow]Not sure if you've ever seen a scene like this: a fisherman rows a lone, light boat, drifting on a river wrapped in thin mist, the world around chillingly clear, as if in a fairyland… In fact, this isn't a scene from an ancient painting or a secluded utopia from a period drama — it's a real, tangible landscape. This is mist over Little Dongjiang. Although the fisherman is an attraction NPC and the net casting is part of a performance, the river mist is a genuine natural phenomenon. However, the mist at Little Dongjiang, while real, doesn't appear every day. It would be a shame to travel a long way and miss this wonder, so choosing the right time and place to watch is crucial [Glister]Why the river mist forms: cold deep water from Dongjiang Lake is released below the dam and flows into Little Dongjiang. The lake water stays around 8℃–10℃ year‑round, so each summer the released cold water creates a clear temperature difference with the outside air. When ambient moisture is high and the temperature gap between air and water reaches a certain level, thin mist forms on the surface. On top of that, Little Dongjiang's V‑shaped canyon blocks strong winds, preventing the mist from dispersing and creating the spectacular mist over Little Dongjiang [Fire]Factors that increase your chances of seeing the mist: [One]right timing once you understand how the mist forms, it makes sense that summer (April–October) has the highest chance of mist. The best months are June–September, when outside temperatures peak. Dawn and dusk are the times of day with the biggest temperature difference between air and water, so mist can form in either period. Dawn (specifically before 7:00 AM) is the best time. We recommend lining up at the park entrance at 5:30 AM and watching the morning mist on Little Dongjiang from 6:00–7:00 AM. Make sure to get up early — don't be late [Two]right weather clear, hot, and windless weather is best. If it's windy or rainy, skip it [Three]right spot on the road between platforms 2 and 3 at Little Dongjiang [Rose]Tips: [One]on holidays, use your ID to enter directly to avoid wasting time exchanging tickets [Two]the fisherman's net casting at Little Dongjiang takes place around the platform areas 1–2, 2–3, and 3–4. In peak season it starts at 6:00 AM daily, casting three nets every 15 minutes for about 2 hours; afternoon net casting runs from 3:00–5:00 PM. Check the "Dongjiang Lake Tourist Scenic Area" WeChat account for exact times [Three]it's recommended to take the shuttle, skip platform 1, and get off at platform 2. Walk from platform 2 toward platform 3 to watch the fisherman cast his nets note: platform 1–2 is 1.6 km, platform 2–3 is 1.2 km, platform 3–4 is 0.6 km [Drops]Other highlights: Longjing Gorge many visitors come to Dongjiang Lake mainly for Little Dongjiang, so we suggest the CNY 80 lake‑view ticket. Besides Little Dongjiang, the lake‑view route includes Longjing Gorge Longjing Gorge sits beside Dongjiang Lake and features a dramatic cliff waterfall. You can also take in the vastness of Dongjiang Lake, the largest man‑made lake in central and southern China, known for good water quality and plenty of fish. Visitors who come early for the mist often haven't had breakfast, so you can buy some Dongjiang Lake grilled fish near the Longjing Gorge shuttle stop [RoundNails]Address: Zixing, Chenzhou 🎫ticket info: buy tickets on the "Dongjiang Lake Tourist Scenic Area" WeChat account Lake‑view route CNY 80 per person, includes Little Dongjiang, Longjing Gorge, and the shuttle Lake cruise route CNY 178 per person, includes Little Dongjiang, Longjing Gorge, Doushui Island, the shuttle, and the cruise ⏰️opening hours: Little Dongjiang: peak season 6:00 AM–6:30 PM, off season 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Longjing Gorge: peak season 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, off season 8:30 AM–5:00 PM Doushui Island cruise: peak season first boat from the dam at 8:30 AM, last boat at 5:00 PM; off season first boat at 9:00 AM, last boat at 4:30 PM [ThumbsUp]recommended duration: allow 3–4 hours for the lake‑view route [Car]transport tips: from Chenzhou West station, buy the "Fucheng express" on the "Chenzhou Bus Group" WeChat account and get off at Luowei station. Hey everyone! I used to think the best of Hunan was in Western Hunan, but after exploring Southern Hunan, I realized the landscapes here have a completely different vibe. Chenzhou's Danxia landforms look like a palette spilled by God, Yangtian Lake's grasslands are spread across high mountains, and Yongzhou's ancient villages hold a thousand years of Neo-Confucian heritage—even the rice noodles have a unique fish flavor. A 4-day trip connects the landscapes, grasslands, and ancient villages, with a different view every day. It's less crowded, beautiful, and affordable—perfect for a weekend getaway or a short holiday. 4-Day Southern Hunan Landscape and Ancient Village Itinerary Day 1: Chenzhou Gaoyiling. Arrive in Chenzhou in the morning and head straight to Gaoyiling in the afternoon. Stroll along the Danxia trail and see the red cliffs surrounding emerald-green pools, like pieces of jade embedded in the Danxia landscape. In the evening, find an open viewing platform to watch the sunset and see the red glow cover the entire Danxia terrain. Stay in downtown Chenzhou at night and have a bowl of Qifengdu fish noodles. Day 2: Yangtian Lake Grassland. Head to Yangtian Lake in the morning; the higher you go on the winding mountain road, the cooler it gets. Explore the alpine grasslands in the afternoon, watch windmills scattered across the meadows, and see horses grazing leisurely. You can go for a horseback ride or find a gentle slope to sit and relax. Head down the mountain in the evening and stop by the ancient villages in Yongchun Township on the way. Stay in Chenzhou at night. Day 3: Chenzhou – Yongzhou Lingling. Depart for Yongzhou in the morning and enjoy the hilly and pastoral scenery along the way. Explore the ancient city of Lingling in the afternoon, visit Liuzi Temple and the old buildings along the Xiao River, and walk through the old alleys on bluestone paths. Watch the sunset by the Xiao River in the evening and enjoy a meal of Yongzhou blood duck and Dong'an chicken. Day 4: Yongzhou Ancient Villages – Return Trip. Visit Goulan Yao Village in the morning to see the Yao ethnic village nestled in the mountains, explore the ancient gate towers and old ancestral halls, and see local Yao embroidery. In the afternoon, visit Shanggan Tang Ancient Village to see the thousand-year-old Buying Bridge and Wenchang Pavilion. Afterward, buy some Yongzhou blood duck or Jianghua bitter tea as souvenirs before heading home. Accommodation Recommendations · Chenzhou: Staying near Wuling Square is most convenient. Dining and transportation are easy, and buses to various scenic spots depart from nearby. · Yangtian Lake: If you want to photograph the starry sky or watch the sunrise, you can stay in tent homestays on the grassland, though they are a bit pricey and have basic amenities. Most people find it more comfortable to return to the city to stay. · Yongzhou: Homestays near Lingling Ancient City are very unique. Many are renovated from old houses, with views of the Xiao River right outside the window, making it convenient to explore the ancient city. Secret Photo Spots 1. Gaoyiling: Choose a Danxia ridge for an overhead shot. Use the red rocks on both sides as leading lines and the emerald water in the center as the visual focal point. The overhead perspective is the most stunning. The colors are richer under the warm evening light. 2. Yangtian Lake Grassland: Use the windmills as the foreground with the meadows extending toward the distant mountains. Shoot from a low angle with more sky in the frame for a greater sense of vastness. 3. Goulan Yao Village: Stand in front of the ancient gate tower and use it as a frame, with the ancient village and distant mountains inside. This adds both depth and a sense of storytelling. 4. Xiao River Bank: Shoot during the blue hour in the evening. The water reflects the lights and the sunset glow, with the old buildings on the bank creating silhouettes, which is very atmospheric. Must-Try Southern Hunan Flavors · Qifengdu fish noodles: Fresh, spicy, and rich. The broth is made from fish, and the rice noodles are smooth and tender. Eating a bowl will make you sweat—it's the soul of breakfast for Chenzhou locals. · Yongzhou blood duck: Duck meat stir-fried with duck blood. It's savory, spicy, and full of flavor. It's a signature Yongzhou dish and goes perfectly with rice. · Dong'an chicken: Sour, spicy, and appetizing with tender chicken. It's one of the state banquet dishes, and local long-standing restaurants make it the most authentic. · Yao-style cured meat: Smoked cured meat that is fatty but not greasy. It's super fragrant when stir-fried with dried bamboo shoots. The farmhouses in the Yao village make the most authentic version. · Jianghua bitter tea: Bitter at first but sweet afterward, with a rich tea aroma. It helps cut through grease and spice, making it a great souvenir to take home. 💡 Practical Tips 1. Transportation: Attractions in Southern Hunan are scattered. Self-driving is the most convenient. There is a high-speed train from Chenzhou to Yongzhou, or you can charter a car for different segments. 2. Gear: Some sections of the Gaoyiling trail are steep, so wear non-slip shoes. The UV rays on the grassland are strong, so take sun protection measures. The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is large, so bring a light jacket. 3. Reservations: You need to book tickets online in advance for Gaoyiling and Yangtian Lake. Book ahead during holidays to avoid queuing on-site. 4. Note: Some sections of Gaoyiling do not have railings. Be careful when taking photos and do not get too close to the edge. Respect local customs when entering the Yao village. ⚠️ Pitfall Avoidance Guide 1. There are many people soliciting "low-price horseback riding" or "fast-track access" at the entrance of scenic spots. Do not trust them; buying tickets through official channels is the safest. 2. Do not buy local specialties at the entrance of scenic spots. Supermarkets in the city and markets in the county are more affordable, and you can bargain. 3. The weather at Yangtian Lake changes quickly. On cloudy days, there might be heavy fog, and you won't be able to see anything. Check the weather before you go; the experience is twice as good on a sunny day. 4. Southern Hunan cuisine is generally spicy. If you cannot handle spice, be sure to tell the restaurant in advance, or you will really be sweating from the heat. The beauty of Southern Hunan lies in the liveliness hidden in its landscapes and the depth carved into its ancient villages. It's comfortable to explore and full of surprises. When the lotus flowers bloom in summer, the lotus leaves and ancient architecture create a picturesque scene, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts. Walking paths are available in the lotus field area. Ancient bridges and streams: A small river flows in front of the village, featuring several stone bridges. The banks are shaded by ancient trees, and villagers often rest by the river, creating a lively, authentic atmosphere. 🚗 Transportation Public transport: From Zixing city center, take a local bus toward Sandu Town and get off at the Liuhuawan stop. Confirm picking prices with the orchard in advance. ⚠️ Practical tips Some residences in the village are still occupied by local villagers. Please do not enter private courtyards without permission to avoid disturbing their daily lives. There are many mosquitoes in the lotus field area during summer; it is recommended to bring mosquito repellent and take sun protection measures. The stone paths in the village are uneven; wearing comfortable flat shoes will make for a better experience. If it rains, the stone paths can be slippery; please watch your step. The village is an open area; please keep your personal belongings safe while visiting. I have always wanted to see the fairyland scenery of the mist over Little Dongjiang. I finally arranged a 2-day trip to Chenzhou, where I got to see the morning mist, the river, fishing boats, and Danxia landforms all in one trip. There was no need to rush the itinerary, the pace was relaxed, and every photo I took had the texture of an ink wash painting✨ No need to rush around to every spot from dawn till dusk. Pick the core attractions and stroll slowly. You can feel the gentleness of the misty water and also check out the grandeur of the Danxia landforms. 🗓️Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Zixing, Chenzhou. Stay at a homestay near Dongjiang Lake. In the afternoon, visit Gaoyiling. Walk along the gentle trails to see the red Danxia rocks and clear water. Walk slowly along the ridge line. In the evening, watch the sunset paint the Danxia cliffs red. Return to the homestay to rest at night. Day 2: Enter the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area early in the morning. Stroll along the boardwalk to see the mist over Little Dongjiang and watch fishing boats pass through the mist. Afterward, visit Longjing Canyon to see the mountain waterfalls and streams. Head back at a leisurely pace in the afternoon. 🏡Accommodation tips Prioritize staying in downtown Zixing or at homestays around Dongjiang Lake. It is close to the scenic area, so you do not have to travel far to see the morning mist. For better value, stay downtown where there are more dining options. If you want a river view, choose a homestay along the river. Remember to book in advance during peak season. 🥢Local food Dongjiang fish is tender and flavorful. Qifengdu fish noodles are authentic and tasty. The wild vegetables from the mountains are fresh. There are many local restaurants downtown with honest, good flavors. No need to specifically eat around the scenic area. 📸Photography tips Little Dongjiang: The mist is thickest between 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM. Shoot against the light to capture the mist on the river and the silhouettes of the fishing boats for a full atmospheric effect. Gaoyiling: Shoot the red Danxia rocks and clear water together from the ridge trail. Take overhead shots of the canyon curves for a strong visual impact. Longjing Canyon: Photograph the waterfalls and streams in the forest. Use a slow shutter speed to give the water a soft, dreamy look. It is fresh and healing. ⚠️Tips & avoiding pitfalls ✔️Make sure to arrive early for the morning mist; it dissipates once the sun rises. The mist is more stable in summer. ✔️Some sections of Gaoyiling are near cliffs. Stick to the official trails and do not climb over the railings. Be careful of your footing when it is rainy and slippery. ✔️There are sightseeing buses inside the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area. It is recommended to take them between attractions as the walking distance is quite long. ✔️The water vapor is heavy by the river, so remember to keep your camera lens protected from fog. Bring a light jacket with you. ✔️Do not trust the low-priced boat tours offered by people on the roadside. Purchase tickets through official channels. The scene of the mist over the river is truly like walking into an ink wash painting. Don't feel pressured to check off every single spot; catching good weather is a win. If you have any questions, leave a comment, and I will reply when I see them💕 Images are for reference only; please refer to the actual scenery on-site.

The scenery is beautiful, featuring Danxia landforms rarely seen in northern China. However, it gets extremely sunny at midday, so it's best to avoid visiting around noon. Going earlier, before noon, will allow you to see most of the sights. Alternatively, go after 2 PM, as there's less shade in the area.
M49***82Yangtian Lake is truly worthwhile! The vast alpine meadows, blue skies and white clouds, and slowly turning windmills create a breathtaking panorama. There are plenty of fun activities; grass skiing down the slopes is incredibly relaxing, and the hillsides are dotted with adorable cartoon installations, making it feel like stepping into a fairytale world. Adults and children alike can have a great time, and every snapshot is a beautiful scene—a truly worthwhile trip.
M12***53The salmon in Xiaodongjiang was delicious, and the nearby guesthouses were amazing. The scene of Mai Xiaodeng killing the fisherman in the late-night magazine was very pleasant, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Luckily, the fog was very thick that day, making it incredibly beautiful. Actually, viewing platforms 2 and 3 for casting nets were also quite good. However, you just need to get up early.
Anonymous userA Seven-Character Quatrain on Viewing Five Finger Peak A magnificent sight in Chenzhou, Five Finger Peak soars to the heavens. A towering cliff holds up the azure sky, a thousand layers of verdant ravines rise in layers of peaks. Dense forests hang upside down on the cliff edge, a light mist lingers around the majestic mountain peak. Many visitors rush to climb the stone plank road, but I alone stand quietly at the foot of the cliff.
南飞雁.The scenery here is beautiful and worth visiting. However, the route instructions in the itinerary are not detailed enough, making it inconvenient for independent travelers with cars. I especially suggest adding benches for tourists to rest and wait at the area where you can watch the fishermen cast their nets.
Anonymous userThe attraction is a bit small, but very unique. The bamboo rafts weave through the Danxia mountains, giving you a feeling of effortlessly navigating through countless peaks! On October 5th, we arrived at 8:30 am and didn't have to queue.
solomon1985The scenery was beautiful! It was just too hot. Those with a bit more stamina can walk to the canyon and then back; the canyon is about 500 meters long and entirely a boardwalk over the water. We didn't buy tickets for the bamboo rafts, but instead bought tickets for a luxury cruise ship (the ship was very new, had air conditioning, and even offered a second-floor sightseeing experience). It also departed from Damianzhou Wharf, round trip to Wayaoping, for 100 yuan per person – incredibly good value!
幸福快乐的大大熊It's perfect for hiking and mountain climbing. The air quality in the mountains is excellent, and you can see many small animals, including Monkey King Village, where there are lots of little monkeys. Just be careful with your food, as the monkeys will try to snatch it. You can also see the Mangshan's unique pit viper, a type of venomous snake with beautiful patterns.
