“Is there anything better than seeing the 'sea' of grass on the prairie?” — traveler post in Ergun

“Is there anything better than seeing the 'sea' of grass on the prairie?”

Before coming to Inner Mongolia, my only imagination of Inner Mongolia was the endless prairie. Only after truly stepping onto this land did I realize that Inner Mongolia is so much more than just prairies. 🌿 Dense primeval forests, winding rivers, crystal-clear lakes, and hills covered with cattle and sheep. 🐑 Look up to see clear blue skies and soft white clouds. ☁️ Spending the whole day immersed in the pristine mountain and wilderness scenery, all fatigue and anxiety are quietly soothed away. ✨ I finally understood the romance of the textbook phrase "the wind blows, the grass bends, and cattle and sheep appear" with my own eyes. This midsummer, you must head to Hulunbuir for a free and healing prairie getaway. 🌤️ . ✈️ Transportation Fly directly to Hailar and start a 6-day pristine Hulunbuir loop tour. . 🚘 6-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Loop (Authentic and direct) Day 1: Hailar → Morigele River → Private Ranch Crossing → Yatuke No-Man's Land → Wetland Crossing → Ergun (Stay in Ergun) Day 2: Ergun → Yuanbaoshan Crossing (Wetland/Wheat Fields/Birch Forest Secret Spot) → Kalu'ben Mountain → Xing'an Deer Park → Moerdaoga (Stay in Moerdaoga) Day 3: Moerdaoga → Greater Khingan Mountains Hinterland Crossing → Moerdaoga National Forest Park → Forest Train → Linjiang Town (Overlook the China-Russia border river from Shenxianpo) → Enhe (Stay in Enhe) Day 4: Enhe → Enhe Back Mountain → Smiley River → Valley of the Wind → China-Russia Border Line → Horseback riding in Heishantou to chase the sunset 🐎 (Stay in Heishantou, bonfire party at night 🔥) Day 5: Heishantou → Visit a local nomadic family → Border Defense Highway → Hulun Lake → Manzhouli (Stay in Manzhouli) Day 6: Manzhouli → Matryoshka Scenic Area → National Gate → Wedding Palace → Windmill Highway → Mammoth Park → Return to Hailar for departure . 🌈 Travel Tips 1️⃣ In the vast wilderness and no-man's lands of Hulunbuir, the signal is weak. 📵 Most of the stunning, off-the-beaten-path secret spots along the way are hidden within off-road routes. These niche locations have complex road conditions, and it's hard to find these less-crowded, beautiful spots on your own. If it's your first time, I recommend booking a local chartered car. 🚙 The drivers are experienced and know the way, taking you straight to the pristine, untouched scenery, making your trip easy and worry-free. 2️⃣ There has been a lot of rain in Hulunbuir this year, and the grasslands are now fully green. 🌱 The prairie is at its most beautiful time of the year, so if you're planning a trip, just go for it! 3️⃣ The temperature difference between day and night on the prairie is huge. 🥶 During the day, the sky is clear, and you can wear dresses for photos. 👗 However, the cold wind is very noticeable in the morning and evening, so be sure to bring a thick jacket. Girls can also bring a pair of boots 👢, which are more convenient for walking on the prairie. The UV rays on the plateau are strong, so don't forget to protect yourself from the sun. ☀️

I don't think I'll ever forget how beautiful winter in Hulunbuir is — traveler post in Ergun

I don't think I'll ever forget how beautiful winter in Hulunbuir is

If there really is an ice and snow fairy tale in this world, it must be Hulunbuir in winter✨ In the extreme cold of -30℃, you'll find rime, reindeer, frozen lakes, and border towns. Riding horses across the vast snowy plains, swinging into the wind and snow on the snowy swings of the Morigele River toward the entire white wilderness, and quietly waiting for the morning mist of the Unfrozen River—this kind of romance is something I'll remember for a lifetime🥹 Sharing my 18 photos, I fell into the white dream of the north and haven't been able to walk out of it for a long time~ Photo 1/4/17: Arxan Blue House🏠 The tour leader helped with aerial photography. Running in the snow with friends, the aerial perspective is just so atmospheric! Photo 2/3/10: The Lonely Tree🌲 Ran into this on the way from Arxan back to Manzhouli. This tree stands all alone on the snowy plain; it's so unique. Photo 5: Enhe The village in winter is full of romance❄️ Photo 6: Unfrozen River Got up early to go to the Unfrozen River. The morning mist was ethereal, and I happened to catch the cattle and horses coming to drink water🐂 Photo 7: Windmills on the Mountain Saw the pink sunset at the top of the mountain🌅 It was incredible. Photo 8: On the way to the top of Shanhe Village The vast expanse of snow is truly spectacular. As a "little potato" from the south, I've never seen anything like this😳 Photo 9: Morigele River Swing The first time swinging on a snowy surface, the romance of the scene is beyond words~ Photo 11/12/13: Hulun Lake The sunset over Hulun Lake and the entire frozen blue lake surface are unforgettable at first sight💙 Photo 14: Shanhe Village The small village and the snow-capped mountains behind it have a bit of a Japanese vibe. Qiqian Village | Autumn has painted the border in gold — traveler post in Ergun

Qiqian Village | Autumn has painted the border in gold

As the car winds through the forest, sunlight filters through the gaps in the canopy, slicing the road ahead into segments of gold✨ Qiqian Village lies on the right bank of the Ergun River, a tiny settlement on the China-Russia border, almost impossible to find on a map🏡 Originally home to only seven or eight families, log cabins are scattered along the riverbank, with Russian mountains just across the water. Chi Zijian's "The Last Quarter of the Moon" is set on this very land📖 The Ewenki people described in the book, who herded reindeer and lived as nomads between forests and rivers for generations—their "right bank" is the very riverbank we stand on. The village where we stand is a corner of the world that the river once sheltered in the novel🌿 The birch trees are golden, the river flows quietly, and autumn has painted the border in gold🍁

"I don't think I'll ever forget autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains for the rest of my life." — traveler post in Ergun

"I don't think I'll ever forget autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains for the rest of my life."

"I finally saw it in the Greater Khingan Mountains! The golden autumn of my dreams. 🍂 It felt like walking into a stunning oil painting. The busy harvest scenes in the villages looked just like a Van Gogh painting. 🖼️ The log cabins in Enhe, the morning mist in the hidden gem of Qiqian, and the sunset at Heishantou. 🌄 The colorful wetlands of Ergun, and come ride the forest train heading into autumn. 🚂 Every scene was as beautiful as a dream! I think this is the most beautiful autumn I've ever seen! Trust me! The northern route of Hulunbuir is the essence of autumn sightseeing! 💯 . 🚗 Route recommendations 1️⃣ Hailar – Morigele River – Grassland wilderness – Ergun 2️⃣ Ergun – Birch Forest – Reindeer Park – Moerdaoga 3️⃣ Moerdaoga forest train – Laoyingzui – Shiwei – Enhe 4️⃣ Enhe – Smiley Face River – Border road – Horseback riding – Sunset, bonfire, and stargazing ✨ – Heishantou 5️⃣ Heishantou – Visit a herder's home – 186 Ribbon River – Swan Lake – Manzhouli (milking cows 🐄 – grassland train – popular swing) 6️⃣ Manzhouli – Windmill Road – Hulun Lake – Hulun Nur Grassland – Hailar . ✅ Autumn sightseeing time and transportation: The colorful golden autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains generally reaches its peak in mid-to-late September 🍁. Keep an eye on the real-time updates shared by your tour leader this year! You can fly directly or transfer to Hailar from all over the country. Upon arrival, your tour leader will provide free pick-up and drop-off 🚗. ✅ Trip suggestions: There is basically no signal in many areas of the Hulunbuir border and the Greater Khingan Mountains 📶. Many beautiful landscapes are not in traditional scenic spots but are hidden along off-the-beaten-path routes. Therefore, self-driving is generally not recommended, as it is inconvenient and you won't fully enjoy the experience. We have chosen the small-group, pure sightseeing customization from our old friends at Sunshine Travel Agency many times! Everything including travel, accommodation, and activities is covered, highly recommended!! 👍 The local guide is familiar with niche spots, taking us away from the crowds to discover many wild autumn views. We traveled along the most beautiful autumn sightseeing route in the Greater Khingan Mountains, with golden trees on both sides of the road—it was breathtakingly beautiful 😭. The villages along the way also looked like scenes from an oil painting! 🖼️ Strolling along a path covered in ginkgo leaves, with sunlight filtering through the golden foliage and pedestrians walking leisurely, the whole world becomes gentle~ 🍂 No matter how good the scenery is, it's nothing compared to seeing it with your own eyes. Go and embrace your most beautiful autumn! 😭✨

I rarely use the word "breathtaking" to describe autumn in a place... — traveler post in Ergun

I rarely use the word "breathtaking" to describe autumn in a place...

But Hulunbuir truly achieved it. 🍂 Some journeys are dedicated to the unique romance of autumn 🍁 The northern autumn wind sweeps across Hulunbuir, the earth sheds its green, and unfolds an endless, gilded landscape. There is no preset script; the vast wilderness is the best theater for stories. On this journey north, I ventured into the autumn of Hulunbuir and completed the loop: 📍 Hailar → Ergun → Enhe → Shiwei → Moerdaoga → Genhe → Hailar Arriving at the Ergun River Valley, I truly witnessed what it means for the world to be vast. 🏞️ The river winds through golden meadows, the sunset descends, the evening breeze scatters the afterglow, grass waves surge, and cattle and sheep are scattered across the wilderness. The Honor phone in my hand captures the twilight and also records me standing in this world. 🌄 The meaning of travel is never just the destination, but awakening the desire in your heart to be different, and immersing yourself in the vast mountains and seas. Driving into the forest area, golden birch forests greet you. 🌳 The plain white trunks are set against trees full of autumn leaves, with dappled golden light filtering through the branches. No need to pose deliberately; just walk through the forest and let the fallen leaves fly with the wind. Use the lens to record the moment—running, stopping, gazing—this natural vitality is the most moving picture 📸 Heading north, grasslands and forests alternate. Climbing high to look out over the landscape, listening to the evening breeze by the river, laughing freely by the road. The photo album slowly accumulates sunsets, tree shadows, and wind, preserving the vibrant and relaxed self from the journey. Gradually I understand, the most wonderful moments are never at the destination. They are hidden in the wilderness autumn wind, the light beams in the forest, the fleeting sunset glow, and the moments that make your heart skip a beat when pressing the shutter 📷 It is the enthusiasm to rush to the mountains and seas, and also the beginning of breaking free from constraints ✨ We are always used to waiting until everything is ready before setting off, but golden autumn won't wait for anyone, and if you miss the scenery, you have to wait another year ⏳ Dare to think and dare to be different, which means putting down hesitation and setting off immediately. No need to wait for the spotlight; the mountains, riversides, and roads are all your stage. It turns out that the most moving stories in the world are always born on the road ahead 🌾 On this journey, I used my Honor phone to capture thousands of moments in the wilderness. The 2026 Global Call for Entries is underway. If you are also on the road, pick up your phone and record your own travel highlights 📱🌍

One day, you too will arrive in Hulunbuir in autumn... — traveler post in Ergun

One day, you too will arrive in Hulunbuir in autumn...

If you could only choose one season to visit Hulunbuir, I would choose autumn without hesitation! 🍁 Because autumn here seems to have saved all its gentle colors for gold, as if God overturned a palette here and sprinkled the warmest tones across the grasslands~ Starting from Hailar and heading north along the Ergun River 🚗, the grasslands, birch forests, and rivers are all painted with a golden filter by autumn. As the sunset 🍂 falls and the wind blows across the grass, the cattle and sheep 🐑 in the distance are scattered quietly, and time seems to slow down in this moment... At that moment, I felt that the rainbow-colored exterior of the vivo X500 created a very interesting contrast with this place ✨ On one side is the vast expanse of golden autumn, and on the other is the rainbow color 🌈 of the phone body that changes with light and angle. It is not a fixed color, but rather presents different brilliance under different lights~ Placed on the grassland, it is bright ✨; walking into the birch forest, it adds a touch of liveliness 🍃 It feels like carrying the light of autumn, along with a color of your own, by your side. Every snapshot looks like a blockbuster photo 📸 Taking a leisurely walk along the river during the day and watching the sunlight filter through the leaves to cast dappled shadows is truly so healing 😭

I've dreamed of the Greater Khingan Mountains since I was a kid, and now that I'm grown up, I finally had the chance to visit!

Hulunbuir in autumn is especially stunning—the forests are painted in layers of gold and green, looking just like an overturned artist's palette 🎨 Herds of sheep, cattle, and horses 🐑🐮, endless grasslands, and golden haystacks—these are all beautiful sights you just can't see in the big city!! I was truly healed by it all 🥹 · ⭐ Sharing my 7-day, 6-night dream itinerary: · *Day 1️⃣** Hailar → Morigele River → Haji Wilderness Grassland Sky Road → Wind Valley Sunset → Ergun (Stay in Ergun) · *Day 2️⃣** Ergun → Birch Forest → Reindeer Park → Longyan Mountain → Moerdaoga (Stay in Moerdaoga) · *Day 3️⃣** Moerdaoga National Forest Park → Taiping Forestry Farm → Eagle Mouth → Fairy Slope → Shiwei Port → Erguna River → Enhe Russian Ethnic Township (Stay in Enhe) · *Day 4️⃣** Enhe → Wolong Mountain → Smiley Face River → Most Beautiful Border Defense Line → Horseback riding across the grassland to watch the sunset → Bonfire party + grassland starry galaxy (Stay in Heishantou) · *Day 5️⃣** Heishantou milking cows and feeding lambs → Mongolian costume photoshoot → Grassland mini-train, grass sliding → Visit a herder's home → Border highway → 186 Ribbon River → Swan Lake (Stay in Manzhouli) · *Day 6️⃣** Manzhouli → Windmill Highway → Hulun Lake → Hailar → Arxan National Forest Park (Stay in Arxan) · *Day 7️⃣** Wusulangzi Lake morning mist → Bu Dong River → Arxan Railway Station → Hailar · ⚠️ Travel tips: ✔️ Best time for autumn foliage: Mid-September to late September each year 🍂 Autumn is short, so if you want to go, make sure to plan ahead! ✔️ Large temperature difference between day and night. It gets warmer at noon when the sun is out, but temperatures are lower on the northern route, so be sure to bring a thick jacket! ✔️ The border line areas like the Border Defense Line, Shiwei, and Manzhouli 🚫 prohibit drone flights. Please pay attention to the regulations~ ✔️ It's recommended to choose a reliable tour group or guide, as many niche hidden gems can only be found by locals! · 🥘 Food recommendations: Inner Mongolian lamb is absolutely amazing!! It has a natural, subtle milky aroma 🍼 You can't go wrong with roasted lamb chops and roasted lamb leg! There's also various cheese, Lieba (Russian-style bread), barbecue, Russian cuisine, lamb shumai... everything is unforgettable 😋

Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed — traveler post in Ergun

Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed

If you know, you know😭 I stayed in a hillside cabin in Erguna that looks like it’s straight out of an anime!! This is probably the most romantic way to experience autumn in Hulunbuir🍂 The A-frame cabin tucked away on the hillside is absolutely stunning! The massive slanted floor-to-ceiling windows frame the entire valley and grassland like a painting🎞️ Open the door to layers of golden larch trees, with the winding Genhe Wetland spreading out at your feet and the distant grasslands stretching to the horizon. At sunset, the landscape is bathed in a honey-gold glow, and you can occasionally spot horses grazing leisurely on the hillside—the vibe is truly top-tier! The room features a warm, vintage wooden aesthetic✨ With soft lighting, cozy bedding, and carpets and small decor items that evoke a nomadic feel. My favorite spot is the leisure corner by the window; I love brewing a cup of hot tea and just zoning out while watching the clouds drift slowly through the valley, with endless autumn colors in sight every time I look up. Waking up to sunlight streaming through the glass in the morning and lying in bed at night to watch the starry sky is pure healing! You can enjoy the view by walking down the colorful stairs, and every angle is incredibly photogenic📸 No need to deal with crowds; just enjoy a quiet moment with the autumn of the Greater Khingan Mountains. It’s very close to the wetland, so you can go out exploring during the day and return to the cabin when you’re tired to feel the breeze from the wild and listen to the rustling leaves—I really didn't want to leave at that moment. It’s perfect for couples, best friends, or anyone who loves slow travel. If you come to Hulunbuir, you must save one night for this place🌄 💡Tips ▪️The light is best at sunset between 6:30 PM–7:30 PM; the hillside viewing platform is perfect for photos ▪️The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is huge! Be sure to bring a thick jacket ▪️Morning mist is common; wake up early to see the ethereal, misty wetland

Ergun Wetland Park

I didn't go to the free ones, but I felt that buying a ticket was worthwhile. The weather was good, and the view from the top was really beautiful. Although it was a bit windy, I looked back and forth from the observation deck several times before I was willing to leave.

Inner Mongolia Ergun National Wetland Park

Ergun National Wetland Park boasts expansive views, with wetlands, forests, and rivers interwoven in a pristine ecological environment, offering a soothing vista of greenery. The boardwalks are comfortable for hiking, providing opportunities to observe a rich variety of flora and fauna. The park is large, requiring a considerable amount of time to explore; the best time for photography is in the early morning or late afternoon light.

Mo'erdaoga National Forest Park

It's worth a visit. Take the mini-train first, then drive yourself. The day I went, it was cloudy in the forest, so the photos didn't turn out well, but the scenery was still quite nice. Because it was so cold, we didn't stop much along the way. The drive back to Moerdaoga Town from the exit is 37 kilometers, but the scenery along the way is also beautiful.

White Birch Forest Scenic Spot

Highly recommend this natural scenic area! Although it got cold early this year, and the birch forest leaves had mostly fallen by October, the golden leaves scattered on the ground reflecting the sunlight were still incredibly beautiful. There were also many adorable chipmunks begging for food, and we left a wishing plaque. I can already imagine the beauty of midsummer and golden autumn; I'll definitely come back to experience it again!

Heishantou Hasar Horse Riding Field

It was very beginner-friendly, even for those who had never ridden a horse before. I joined a large group to watch the sunset, and they gave me a brief explanation of the basics before we set off. The horse trainers were also very fun, and we got to try trotting occasionally. The horses were very gentle, and the staff at the stable even helped me mount the horse for photos at the sunset spot. I had a wonderful time riding!

Erguna River·Wulan Mountain Scenic Area

Based on recommendations from online friends, we specifically chose this attraction for our trip. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. The scenic area was beautiful, the air was fresh, the service was excellent, and the facilities were comprehensive. We will definitely recommend it to our friends. We are extremely satisfied with this attraction and give it a five-star rating.

Cao Yuan Zai Zhe Li Scenic Area

I opted for the unlimited ride pass, and it was indeed incredibly thrilling! I went three times, definitely worth the price. I was initially worried about being scared, but the experience was anything but. I was even taking tons of photos the whole way. The pass included a round trip on the mini-train, which was a lifesaver. The scenery on the return train was absolutely breathtaking – endless grasslands under blue skies and white clouds – words can't describe it!

Heishantou Town

The Boundary River is quite beautiful. The boat cruises near the center of the river, very close to the Russian side, allowing for stunning views of both sides. Once on board, you can rent a telescope for a reasonable price, which gives you a clear view of the buildings on the other side. Also, during the cruise, passengers can go up to the second deck in two batches: those who want to see more of the Russian side's buildings are in the first group; those who want to see the Sino-Russian Friendship Bridge are in the second group. After crossing the Sino-Russian Friendship Bridge, the boat turns back, and all passengers must disembark and return to their cabins.

Enhe Russian Ethnic Township

When talking about Inner Mongolia, many people will think of Hulunbuir, but many people don't know that there is a place called Enhe hidden in Hulunbuir. It is a border between China and Russia. Although it is located in the border area, the scenery here is very beautiful. In autumn, the grassland gradually turns yellow, the forest in the distance is windy and surging, the clouds are clear and the air is refreshing, and the mountains are colorful. Moreover, the houses in Enhe are very distinctive, and the exotic cabins really make you feel like you have come to a foreign country in an instant, with a unique style.
