Road trip from Daqing to Arxan for 1.5k per person, route plan included — traveler post in Daqing

Road trip from Daqing to Arxan for 1.5k per person, route plan included

Sept 27: Daqing - Moguqi Town (lunch) - Shidawan - Chaihe Moon Town (dinner + accommodation) · 500km total, best to arrive at Shidawan before 5:00 PM to enjoy the stunning sunset · Some highway driving; lots of bugs, so wipe the windshield at every service area · You can claim gas coupons for Hulunbuir on the UnionPay app; check the list to see where to use them Sept 28: Moon Town - Tongxin Heavenly Lake - Heavenly Lake Service Area (lunch) - Bu Dong River Lookout - Reserved area [Blue House - Wusulangzi Lake - Halaha River] - Beijiang Horse Farm - Yiershi Town - Arxan City (dinner) - Heavenly Lake Service Area (accommodation; if you don't want to see the morning mist, you can stay in Yiershi/downtown/Bailang Town) · About 300km total, entering the most beautiful section of the Mo'a Highway; the scenery is just as good as Arxan. Entering Xing'an League, there is often no signal, so remember to download offline maps · Went to see the morning mist at Tongxin Heavenly Lake at 6:00 AM, but it never cleared. It's windy on the mountain, so dress warmly · The key is to book tickets for Wusulangzi River on the Chaihe mini-program at 7:30 AM. I booked the 1:00 PM slot; do not miss your reserved time or you won't be able to enter · If you can't get a reservation, you can take another free road to the West Gate. You'll pass Xunlu Manor on the way, where you can feed the deer · The view at Beijiang Horse Farm is more open than the reserved section · The "ice-boiled lamb" in Arxan has very long lines; remember to get a number online in advance Sept 29: Heavenly Lake Service Area - Haosengou [Qizhigou - Shuanghe Forestry Farm - Pingyuan Forestry Farm - Guanyin Cave - Xianren Cave - Sifang Mountain] - Mingshuihe Town (lunch) - Manzutun - Heiyang Mountain - Cha'ersen Reservoir - Ulanhot (dinner + accommodation) · 300km total, no highway, mostly provincial and country roads · No morning mist; if you want to see it, go to niche spots like Azalea Lake or Luming Lake instead · Haosengou has few cars and is great for photos, but the scenery is a bit inferior · After Mingshuihe, it becomes grassland terrain. You must go to the section from Manzutun to Heiyang Mountain; although the grass has turned yellow, the view is much more open · For Cha'ersen Reservoir, navigate to Binhai Resort to drive to the lakeside. There are several lookouts along the way with stunning sunsets Sept 30: Ulanhot (breakfast/lunch) - Gegen Temple - Chaganhot - Nenjiang Wetland - Daqing · Nearly 400km total, includes some highway. Crossing the Nenjiang River from Qiqihar back to Daqing involves some bad roads (Country Road 003) · Chaganhot is almost an abandoned attraction; you can skip it · You can buy some souvenirs in Ulanhot (fridge magnets, beef jerky CNY 138/jin, dairy products)

2-Day, 1-Night Daqing Road Trip Guide — traveler post in Daqing

2-Day, 1-Night Daqing Road Trip Guide

Daqing 2-Day, 1-Night Road Trip Guide (Summer Edition) Day 1: City culture + wetlands (stay within the city, easy parking) In the morning, drive to the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall. It is free; please reserve in advance via the official account. Experience the history of the Oilfield Battle immersively. There is ample parking at the exhibition hall. At noon, have a nearby meal of Daqing's specialty pit barbecue, featuring potatoes and roasted lamb chops for an authentic Northeast flavor. In the afternoon, head straight to Longfeng Wetland Park. It is a free urban wetland where you can walk along wooden boardwalks through reed marshes. In summer, you can take a boat to watch water birds, go camping, or have a picnic. You can drive directly to the parking lot. In the evening, drive to Liming Lake. Take a walk around the lake to see the sunset over the water and the night view of the winding boardwalk. The evening breeze is pleasant, and it is a free leisure spot. For accommodation, choose a chain hotel near Sa'ertu Wanda for convenient dining and departure the next day. Day 2: Grassland and lake view road trip (round trip to Dorbod, about 1 hour drive) In the morning, drive to the Lianhuan Lake Hot Spring Scenic Area in Dorbod. In summer, the focus is on boating on the lake and relaxing by the shore—you do not have to just soak in the hot springs. Eighteen lakes are connected, offering expansive views of the grassland and lakes. In the afternoon, head back. On the way, stop by the Urban Forest Park. It features large areas of woods and lawns, a free natural oxygen bar, and trails for a relaxing walk before ending the trip. Road trip tips 1. All city attractions are free; bring your ID card. In summer, take sun protection measures and bring mosquito repellent. 2. The route from the city to Dorbod is entirely on national highways with smooth road conditions, making for an easy drive. 3. Try to avoid the midday sun; visiting the wetlands in the morning or evening offers a better experience.

100,000 Years of Romance Hidden in This Small Town Just 1 Hour from Harbin — traveler post in Daqing

100,000 Years of Romance Hidden in This Small Town Just 1 Hour from Harbin

Hello, this is Mark. I think I underestimated Daqing. The Chinese language textbooks only describe Daqing as an industrial city and an oil city, but they never told me that Daqing is so romantic! Born with a natural red romantic gene, red represents oil, ancient biological fossils, or the reeds by the autumn and winter wetlands. Stereotypes might make you think Daqing is ordinary, but just the Daqing Museum alone is worth a special trip from Harbin, only 1 hour away. 🦣 Daqing Museum The foremost national first-class museum in Northeast China, yet it’s too low-key; the museum’s timeline doesn’t start from the Warring States, Qin, or Han dynasties but from the Quaternary period, about 100,000 years ago. It’s famous for housing China’s largest mammoth fossil and the largest number of bison fossils. Even more exciting: ❶ It clearly explains fossils, Daqing wetlands, and the formation of lakes in an easy-to-understand way, making it fascinating even for laypeople. ❷ The open display of mammoth and bison fossil groups is incredibly stunning, and you can even touch the mammoth fossils. ❸ The newly opened VR experience hall, V Mammoth World, lets you become a super warrior saving mammoths, offering a fully immersive experience. ❹ Don’t miss the Mengka Coffee; besides the classic oil drop fridge magnet, this year Daqing’s red-themed study tour launched the “Little Iron of Daqing” series of merchandise, which is cute and full of vitality. I always believe that discovering connections throughout a destination is one of the joys of travel. You might not know that 100,000 years ago or even earlier, Daqing was a vast lake where ancient creatures gathered. Later environmental changes caused their extinction, and over a long time, they became raw materials for oil or fossils. The lake aged and disappeared over time, leaving Daqing with abundant wetlands today. Time has created Daqing’s red romance, making travel here more interesting. I recommend starting a 1-2 day red-themed study tour from the museum, from ancient fossils to many ice and snow activities at Mammoth Park, or visiting Hè Míng Lake, which features provincial intangible cultural heritage, beautiful wetlands, and genuine hot springs. Here’s my tested itinerary: One-day tour: Daqing East Station ➠ Daqing Museum, Daqing Art Museum ➠ Land Lake Art Center (Mengka Coffee, Qingbao Snowman, Mammoth Park) Two-day tour: Hè Míng Lake, experience the contrast of ice and fire in natural hot springs amid the snow, enjoy unlimited delicious fish after winter fishing; self-driving is better, and sometimes chartering a car is more cost-effective. What other red romance does Daqing have? You can find kowtow machines everywhere, and the heart-gesture snowman Qingbao is even more charming; not only Harbin, but Heilongjiang also offers more interesting winter experiences, all hidden in these small towns you’ve definitely heard of but never visited~

Off-peak ceiling! Now is the time when Arxan has fewer people and more beautiful scenery (2-day travel guide) — traveler post in Daqing

Off-peak ceiling! Now is the time when Arxan has fewer people and more beautiful scenery (2-day travel guide)

(Same name as a certain 🍠) Where can you still see snow in March? Definitely in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia! I went to Arxan - Manzhouli - Erguna - Hailar in early March. At that time, the snow was still very thick everywhere, and in some places, the snow was so deep that cars couldn’t pass. Also, since it was the off-season, almost every place was like having a private venue! This article will focus on the 2 days in Arxan~ 🚗 Transportation ✈️ Flights usually connect from Beijing/Hohhot/Wulanhaote to Yiershi Airport, mostly arriving in Arxan around 9 or 10 AM, which is just perfect, with no wasted travel time. 🚂 You can also take a train from Shenyang to Arxan Station. It takes longer but is cheaper. The airport is closer to Yiershi Town and the Forest Park, while the train station is in Arxan city center. 🏨 Accommodation You can stay either in Arxan city center or Yiershi Town. I stayed one day in each place. In winter, the city center has fewer dining options but more places to explore, plus skiing and it’s close to the Bailang Scenic Area. The town has more food options but fewer places to visit and is closer to the Forest Park. Personally, I prefer the city center. Although it’s a city, it’s small and feels more like a small town. The snow is thick and clean, and the Russian-style buildings covered in snow in winter look like a fairy tale town. I like it even more than Hengdaohezi, where I went before. ❄️ Itinerary Playing in Arxan is generally divided into 3 routes: A: Forest Park direction on the left, B: Arxan city center in the middle, C: Bailang Scenic Area on the right. Some attractions are closed or less scenic in winter, so I only spent 2 days. Day 1: Bailang direction + city center Xing’an Ovoo, Rime Corridor, Deer Park, Forest Ranch, Snow Village, Arxan Train Station, Dingdian’er Market I landed at 9 AM by plane and hired a car to pick me up directly from the airport. Off-season cost was 350 RMB/day. After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I headed straight to the Bailang direction. First stop was Xing’an Ovoo. The driver said it’s quite spiritual here, so we circled it clockwise 3 times to show respect. Opposite the Ovoo is the Rime Corridor. I didn’t catch the rime when I went, but the snow was super thick, very clean, and there was no one around. Walking on the snow-covered path full of white birch trees felt like a little winter forest. After the corridor, I went to Bailang Town. The Bailang Scenic Area isn’t much to see this season, so we just had lunch in town and then went to the beloved Deer Park. Since there was no one else, when I fed the deer 🦌, all the little deer surrounded me, giving me a 360° deer experience, haha. After feeding the deer, the swings and benches nearby were also great for photos. The last stop in the Bailang direction was the Forest Ranch. There aren’t many snow activities in the city center, so I went to the ranch to ride a banana boat 🍌. I heard they charge an entrance fee in peak season, but in the off-season, I only paid for the activity. Back in Arxan city center, I visited Snow Village. The village looks great during the day too, but in the off-season, it’s only for sightseeing; no shops or activities are open. Not far from Snow Village is Arxan Train Station, which is really small! The yellow exterior is super pretty, and you can watch trains pass by. Lastly, I went to Dingdian’er Market to buy Arxan’s exclusive yogurt, which was delicious~ Day 2: Forest Park + town Forest Park (Unfrozen River, Santan Gorge, Blue House, Wusu Langzi Lake), Yiershi TV Tower On Day 2, I went to the Forest Park direction. In winter off-season, the Forest Park entrance fee is only 1 RMB. When we arrived at the Unfrozen River at 11 AM, we didn’t see the morning mist, but there were cows coming down to drink water, and other tourists were leaving, so we had the place to ourselves, haha. The cows only drink for a short time. Besides this spot, there are several stretches of unfrozen river in the park (we walked further to shoot drone footage), but only here had cows. The driver originally didn’t plan to take us to Santan Gorge, but we insisted, and it was definitely worth it! You need to show the 1 RMB ticket paper to enter. Inside is a huge ice waterfall, much bigger than the ones I saw in Daqing a month ago. It’s really beautiful and absolutely worth a visit! To get to Wusu Langzi Lake, you pass by the Blue House. Personally, I didn’t find the Blue House very interesting, haha. Because it snowed heavily a few days before our visit, the lake’s ice surface was covered with snow, so it looked similar to other scenery along the way. This day’s itinerary was very relaxed, so after returning to town, we still had time to stroll around and go to the TV tower to watch the sunset. You can walk up the stairs on the left side of the tower or drive up the slope on the right, depending on the situation. After taking photos halfway up the stairs, you can continue to the top for a better sunset view, but photos at the top aren’t as good as those taken halfway up.

The golden roof and red walls, set against the green pines and thin snow, come with a natural Zen filter. Sunlight shines on the golden roof, and the shifting light and shadow seem to slow down time. Entering the temple, the melodious chanting flows slowly, watching devotees pray sincerely, instantly calming restless hearts. There are few tourists here, no noisy disturbances, perfect for quietly strolling, touching ancient prayer wheels, feeling the tranquility and depth of religious culture, healing both body and mind. 5. Wuma Shatuo🏜️ The niche secret spot Wuma Shatuo hides a unique "sand and snow intertwined" romance in November! Inner Mongolia's Hidden 'Martian Secret Land'! Dahongshan in Siziwang Banner, Awe-Inspiring to the Point of Speechlessness!

Crimson mountains layer upon layer, as if the earth's veins are pulsating. This is not the American West, nor the surface of Mars, but the stunning secret land of Dahongshan in Inner Mongolia's Siziwang Banner. The moment I set foot on Dahongshan, it felt as if I had traveled to another planet. Before my eyes lay a vast expanse of crimson mountains, eroded by billions of years of wind and rain, forming layered ravines of various shapes. From brick red to ochre red, and even local bluish-gray, the colors blend in layers, like a painting meticulously crafted by nature with its most brilliant hues. · -- 01 Geographical Marvel: Mars on Earth Dahongshan, also known as Naomugeng Mountain, is located in Siziwang Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia. It is a Gobi grassland plateau cliff, approximately 8 kilometers long from north to south, 5 kilometers wide from east to west, with its highest point reaching about 1120 meters above sea level. The mountain body is a Tertiary standard stratigraphic section, holding significant research value in geology. Due to its reddish sandy soil, it resembles a red mountain when viewed from below, appearing incredibly majestic and spectacular whether seen from afar or up close. Most astonishing are the bizarre peaks and valleys formed by millions of years of wind and rain erosion. Some resemble giant whales emerging from the sea, others massive scallops, some are strikingly similar to large crocodiles lurking on a wall, and still others like turtles rushing to shore. Each landscape is incredibly lifelike, making one marvel at the uncanny workmanship of nature. 02 Best Experience: A Visual Feast Where Time and Space Intersect The best time to visit Dahongshan is autumn, when the climate is cool and pleasant. During sunrise and sunset, the mountains glow even more orange-red and dazzling under the sunlight, creating a strong visual impact. Standing on the mountaintop and looking down, the crisscrossing Danxia landform resembles the earth's veins. The vastness and grandeur evoke the sentiment from Su Shi's writing: "like a mayfly between heaven and earth, a tiny grain in the vast ocean." Here, you can experience the wonderful feeling of being disconnected from the world for 4 hours. This place is desolate and free of light pollution, making it an excellent spot for stargazing. As night falls, looking up reveals the vast, shifting Milky Way, and the boundless starry sky makes you forget all worries. 03 Practical Guide: Your Complete Guide to the Secret Land Transportation: Only accessible by self-driving. Set your navigation to "Dahongshan, Siziwang Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region." From Sonid Right Banner, it's about 100 kilometers of asphalt road, taking a little over 1 hour. Important Tip: Mobile phone signal starts to disappear 60 kilometers before the destination, so be sure to download offline maps in advance. Make sure to fill up your gas tank before departing, as there are no gas stations or charging piles along the way. Route Selection: The asphalt road extends all the way to the entrance of Dahongshan, while the mountain itself has flat, unpaved roads. Follow the tire tracks inward: at the first fork, go left; at the second fork, also choose the left one. Continue along the edge, and you'll see a small path leading down into the slopes of Dahongshan. Accommodation Recommendation: The nearest town is Sonid Right Banner. We recommend staying at Zhengda Hotel in Sonid Right Banner (pet-friendly), priced at about 120 yuan/room. 04 Special Experiences: Unmissable Highlights Shenzhou No. 1 Most Beautiful Highway: On August 8, 2025, a 171-kilometer-long "Shenzhou No. 1 Most Beautiful Highway" will officially open. This highway starts 4 kilometers south of Gegentala and ends at Dahongshan. The highway winds through attractions such as Dorbod Grassland, Gegentala Tourist Area, Xilamuren Temple, and the main landing site of the Shenzhou series spacecraft. It also includes a 66-kilometer "Rainbow Road" with 9 characteristic scenic check-in points along the way. Culinary Experience: In Sonid Right Banner, you must try the local hotpot. We recommend the spring water hotpot; the lamb here is Sonid lamb, which is incredibly tender and has little to no gamey smell. For breakfast, you can visit Yuanxiyuan Shaomai Restaurant; it's said that their pan-fried dumplings are even better than their steamed ones. Every August, Siziwang Banner also hosts a lamb offal food festival, where you can savor grassland-flavored delicacies. 05 Photography Guide: Creating Blockbuster Shots Dahongshan is a paradise for photographers. Here are some tips to help you capture stunning photos: Best Time: Sunrise and sunset, when low-angle sunlight makes the mountains appear more orange-red and dazzling. Essential Equipment: Drone (a must-have! Only from high altitude can the magnificent "earth's veins" be fully displayed). Clothing Suggestion: Wear white or bright-colored clothes (orange photographs exceptionally well). Special Shot: In the evening at sunset, the mountains are exceptionally crimson and vibrant. 06 In-depth Experience: Beyond Ordinary Travel Significance At Dahongshan, you can not only admire spectacular natural landscapes but also experience profound cultural heritage. It is close to the main landing site of the Shenzhou series spacecraft, deeply integrating aerospace memories with grassland scenery. Every August, Siziwang Banner also hosts the "Grassland Tour" Naadam and the Mongolian Horse Super League. Visitors can personally experience the "Three Manly Sports" competitions (archery, horse racing, wrestling) and feel the passion of the grassland. · -- As the sun sets, its afterglow casts upon the crimson mountains, and the entire land seems to ignite. At that moment, I understood why some say, "The romance of the universe is not only beyond the nine heavens, but also in the folds of these crimson mountains." Dahongshan is unlike those overdeveloped popular attractions; there are no crowded throngs, no commercial hustle and bustle, only the purest natural wonder and the most profound spiritual experience. If you are tired of conventional attractions and yearn for a truly unique journey, Dahongshan in Siziwang Banner awaits your arrival.

Daqing Museum

The Daqing Museum is a must-see destination in Daqing. Why? It houses a rare and complete collection of mammoth fossils! It also offers a glimpse into the geography of the Quaternary Period (2.58 million years ago). At that time, the three northeastern provinces formed a vast ancient lake, with Harbin, Changchun, and Shenyang lying at its bottom. Later, geological and climatic shifts caused the ancient lake to disappear, but some remains remain, forming the Daqing wetland ecosystem.

Amuta Mongolian Island

Hopefully, it will be repaired soon. It has a bit of an Aranya feel to it. I hope the scenic area is repaired and the supporting facilities are completed soon. In Northeast China, there's such a place surrounded by water on three sides, with camels, horseback riding, grasslands, and expansive views—perfect for taking children.

Heming Lake Wetland Hot Spring Resort

It is located at the confluence of the Jinsha River, Minjiang River and Yangtze River. It is also the first park of the Yangtze River. There is a "water-friendly" leisure trail. You can swim. I saw many people in the river. I am not good at swimming, so I dare not go down. When you open the window, you can see the scenery. When you open the door, you can see the green. When you go out and enter the park, the green water and green mountains outline a beautiful ecological picture of Yibin.

Liming Lake

I went to visit my classmate at the Petroleum University and she took me to Liming Lake for a walk. The lake is quite beautiful and the water is relatively clear. However, I didn't see any cruise ships when we came, but it was nice to row a boat.
