I stayed at a fairytale wedding venue in Normandy—this place is truly the ultimate vacation spot! — traveler post in Honfleur

I stayed at a fairytale wedding venue in Normandy—this place is truly the ultimate vacation spot!

Following the Trip.com list of luxury hotels in Normandy, I booked a stay at La Ferme Saint-Siméon (a Relais & Châteaux property), and it was exactly what I imagined a French manor to be! 💐 I originally planned for a quiet getaway, but it happened to coincide with my sister's wedding here, so I only stayed for one night. Still, the experience was absolutely top-notch~ The hotel isn't large. It's tucked away on a hillside. Below lies a charming tourist town, but up on the hill, it's a completely different world—so quiet and relaxing. 🏡 The surrounding scenery is breathtaking. Just walking around feels like being in a movie scene. That sense of luxury, combining nature and refinement, isn't forced; it's felt in the environment, facilities, and service, all of which are comfortable and high-quality. A quick tip: the hotel's breakfast and parking fees are a bit pricey, but if you can park directly in front of the hotel, it's actually free! That's a very thoughtful little detail. ✔️ If you're looking for a vacation where you can truly relax and breathe, rather than rushing between tourist spots, this place is a top choice. I'd definitely recommend it to friends! Even just a one-night stay will leave you with unforgettable memories. ✨

Discovering Normandy: Why France’s Untamed Coast and is Europe’s Most Underrated Escape — traveler post in Honfleur

Discovering Normandy: Why France’s Untamed Coast and is Europe’s Most Underrated Escape

I hopped onto an early morning train from Paris’s Gare Saint-Lazare, and in just under two hours, the city's concrete avenues dissolved into rolling emerald hills, orchard-lined lanes, and sweeping coastal horizons. Normandy is one of those places that many travelers mistakenly distill into a single quick day-trip to Mont-Saint-Michel or a brief D-Day historic tour, passing right over the region’s true soul. Because people tend to rush through, Normandy remains vastly underrated as an immersive, slow-travel destination. Staying here for a few days reveals a landscape that feels like stepping inside an Impressionist painting, where dramatics cliffs carve into turquoise tides, medieval half-timbered towns whisper forgotten history, and a rich culinary culture slow-simmers at its own unhurried pace. What makes Normandy so deeply underrated is its incredible diversity beyond the well-trodden tourist hubs and the sheer depth of its hidden gems. Beyond the famous chalk arches of Étretat, my absolute favorite discovery was losing myself in the countryside of the Pays d'Auge. Here, along the 40-kilometer Route du Cidre (Cider Route), you wind through quiet, flower-draped villages like Beuvron-en-Auge and Cambremer. Following handwritten wooden signs down narrow country lanes leads to small, family-run estates where you can wander through sunlit apple orchards and step directly into rustic cellars. You’ll be warmly welcomed by local producers to taste crisp artisanal ciders, aged Calvados apple brandy, and creamy, fresh Camembert—a sensory, hyper-local experience completely untouched by heavy tourist crowds. To truly experience Normandy like a local, rent a car or grab a regional TER train out to the coast and lean into its marvelous culinary rhythms. Seek out a cozy, timbered brasserie or seaside stall in Honfleur to indulge in a steaming bowl of fresh Normandy mussels (moules à la crème) paired with a glass of dry, sparkling cider. A favorite insider tip is to time your coastal walks for late afternoon when the day-trippers head home; hiking along the high cliff paths above Étretat as the setting sun turns the white chalk walls into glowing shades of rose and amber is pure magic. Normandy proves that you don't need packed Mediterranean beaches to find coastal tranquility—sometimes the most soul-stirring journeys are found where the green sea breeze meets timeless rural serenity. #underratednormandy #explorefrance #normandyhiddengems #paysdauge #etretatcliffs #visitnormandy #francetravels #hiddengemeurope #underratedspots

🇫🇷 Normandy, France — Where History Meets the Sea 🌊🌿 Normandy is a beautiful region in northern France known for its dramatic coastline, medieval towns, green countryside, historic villages, and world-changing history. It has a peaceful charm that feels completely different from Paris. 🏰 Mont-Saint-Michel The region’s most iconic sight is Mont-Saint-Michel, a spectacular medieval abbey rising from a rocky island surrounded by tidal waters. At high tide, it can appear almost like a floating castle. ✨ ⚔️ D-Day Beaches Normandy is deeply connected to World War II history. The beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword were central to the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. Today, memorials, museums, bunkers, and cemeteries help visitors understand the events. 🌊 Étretat The coastal town of Étretat is famous for its dramatic white chalk cliffs and natural arches. The views over the English Channel are spectacular, especially at sunset. 🌅 🏘️ Charming towns Explore Honfleur, with its picturesque old harbor and colorful waterfront buildings, or Bayeux, famous for the extraordinary Bayeux Tapestry and its beautiful cathedral. 🌿 Normandy countryside Normandy is also known for rolling green fields, apple orchards, traditional stone-and-timber houses, and peaceful villages. The region is famous for Camembert cheese, cider, Calvados, and seafood. 🧀🍎 📅 Best time to visit May–September generally offers the most pleasant conditions for exploring the coast and countryside. June is particularly meaningful if you’re interested in D-Day history, especially around the annual commemorations. Normandy is a place where dramatic cliffs meet peaceful countryside and centuries of history live alongside the sea—a destination that is both beautiful and deeply moving. 🇫🇷🌊❤️

Lighthouse church light and shadow secret realm — traveler post in Honfleur

Lighthouse church light and shadow secret realm

Le Havre, France | Saint Joseph Church⛪ Le Havre is a port city in Normandy. The entire old town is a World Heritage site, rebuilt in concrete after World War II by architect Auguste Perret. Saint Joseph Church is a city landmark, a Brutalist concrete building with a 107-meter-tall tower. Inside, giant stained glass windows cast colorful, dazzling light when sunlight shines through, making it a classic example of modern religious architecture. ✨Highlights ▪️ Towering concrete tower: the city’s highest point, shaped like a giant lighthouse, visible from afar. ▪️ Interior space of the church: massive concrete pillars, octagonal dome, large stained glass windows, with ever-changing light creating a strong atmosphere. ▪️ Prayer candle stand and icons: side chapels feature prayer candles, quiet and solemn, perfect for sitting quietly to soak in the ambiance. ▪️ Entire new city of Le Havre: Perret’s postwar concrete city blocks, listed as a World Heritage site, ideal for city strolls. 📝Simple travel guide ⏰Recommended visit time: 30–60 minutes inside the church, combined with a half-day tour of Le Havre city center 🚞Transportation: about 2.5 hours by train from Paris to Le Havre station. The church is in the city center, within walking distance. 🎫Tickets: church admission is free. Tower access requires a separate ticket. ✨Suggested itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Le Havre, visit Saint Joseph Church, stroll through Perret’s old town, explore around the city hall, then head to the seaside port for sunset. Day 2: Visit the Normandy coast or take a day trip to the town of Honfleur. 💡Useful tips 1. Try to visit during the day when natural light shines through the stained glass windows for the best light and shadow effect. 2. Keep quiet inside the church and minimize photography during worship times. 3. Le Havre is windy by the sea, so bring a windbreaker for seaside visits. 4. The city features many concrete buildings with a simple color palette; the stained glass windows are the biggest highlight.

Charming town in Normandy — traveler post in Honfleur

Charming town in Normandy

#underratedspots #normandy #france I visited Honfleur with a local friend, which made the experience even nicer because I could just relax and enjoy the town without worrying about where to go. Most of all, I loved simply strolling around the old town, wandering through the narrow cobbled streets and looking at all the old houses, little shops and cafés. The place has such a charming atmosphere that I didn’t feel the need to rush from one attraction to another. Sainte-Catherine Church is probably the most important building in town, and I thought it was absolutely fabulous. It’s one of those really old churches that feels completely different from what you normally see, especially because it’s built almost entirely of wood and dates back to the 15th century. Honfleur gets very busy during the summer, especially on weekends, so I highly recommend to go during the weekdays. Car is the easiest way to get there but beware that parking is somewhat complicated, so yet another reason to go early and during the week.

Day Trips from Paris: Following the Impressionists to Honfleur — traveler post in Honfleur

Day Trips from Paris: Following the Impressionists to Honfleur

Just a couple of hours from the capital, and you're in Normandy. Honfleur is often overshadowed by Deauville, but this is exactly where the true spirit of old France lives on. It's a town where every facade reflects in the harbor's waters, and the narrow streets look as if they've stepped right off an Impressionist canvas. 🎨 What makes this place special: · The birthplace of Impressionism: This is where Claude Monet learned to paint skies from Eugène Boudin. Take a stroll around the Sainte-Catherine Quay (Vieux Bassin) to catch that iconic play of light on the water. · A ship-church: The 15th-century St. Catherine's Church was built by local shipwrights without a single nail. Its wooden vault resembles an overturned ship's hull. Today, it stands as the largest wooden church. · The three pillars of Normandy: Salt, cider, and Calvados. Pop into the local boutiques for a tasting—the producers will teach you all about their subtle flavor profiles 🍏🥃 · Secret courtyards: Tiny galleries featuring contemporary artists are tucked away in the labyrinth of streets. Wander off the beaten path to hunt for unique, handmade souvenirs. 🗺 Practical cheat sheet: · Getting there: Take a train from Paris to Le Havre or Deauville-Trouville (about 2 hours), followed by a taxi or bus (30–40 minutes). · Where to explore: Start at the Old Port, make your way to the ship-church, and wrap up your day with a coffee on the waterfront. · What to eat: Oysters, mussels in a creamy sauce, hearty fish soup, and Norman apple tart. · When to visit: May, June, or September. The weather is mild, there are fewer tourists, and nature's colors are at their absolute brightest.

Honfleur

[Honfleur] A friend who went to school in Normandy recommended this place to me, and I found that it is really good. The season for traveling is very important. For a small town to have an atmosphere, there must be people outside. Therefore, winter is more suitable for staying at home. Of course Now, it’s suitable for southerners to stay in northerners’ homes.

If you want to feel small and insignificant, Milford Sound is the place for you. As you drive halfway along the Milford Road, these mountain giants tower over you and everywhere you go, you’ll see something spectacular. If you’re really lucky and get to go there, you must also take a cruise. Rain, hail, or shine, this place will take your breath away.
