🚂 EP.2 | Glacier Express — Switzerland 🇨🇭 A scenic train ride that takes you across the Alps for a full day 🏔️🚆 If the Bernina Express is your closest mountain adventure, another route you shouldn't miss is the Glacier Express, a panoramic train connecting Zermatt and St. Moritz. The journey takes approximately 8 hours 🌿 Along the approximately 291 km route, the train crosses 291 bridges and passes through 91 tunnels. The scenery changes constantly, from mountain villages and deep valleys to rivers and Alpine landscapes 🏔️❄️ One of the most beautiful sections is the Oberalp Pass, the highest point on the route at 2,033 meters. Another highlight is the Rhine Gorge, a massive rock canyon often called the "Swiss Grand Canyon" because of its white cliffs and the turquoise Rhine River flowing below 💙 Along the way, you'll also pass the Landwasser Viaduct, a 65-meter-high stone bridge spanning the valley. Before continuing on to the Engadin area and finally to St. Moritz. What I liked most was that the view wasn't just beautiful at one point, but gradually changed throughout the journey, like watching a long nature movie through the train window 🎞️🚆 📍 Glacier Express 🇨🇭 Zermatt → St. Moritz ⏱️ Approximately 8 hours 📏 291 km 🌉 291 bridges 🚇 91 tunnels 🏔️ Highest point: Oberalp Pass 2,033 m Information from 2026: The 2026 summer timetable indicates travel dates from May 2nd to October 10th, with an annual closure between October 11th and December 4th, 2026.
