Trip.com Vacation Farm (Ruicheng Yellow River Bay Partner Property) | Sleep by the Yellow River Bay, a hidden gem in Shanxi — traveler post in Yuncheng

Trip.com Vacation Farm (Ruicheng Yellow River Bay Partner Property) | Sleep by the Yellow River Bay, a hidden gem in Shanxi

On this Shanxi road trip, I made a point to visit this vacation farm by the Yellow River. It’s ranked No. 1 on the Shanxi Vacation Farm list, and only after checking in did I truly understand what it means to open your window to a view of the great river. Opened in 2024, the farm is located next to the Dayudu Yellow River Scenic Area in Ruicheng, just a 910-meter walk from the Yellow River. Wooden cabins are scattered across the grassy slopes of Yellow River Bay. Looking up, you see the magnificent Yellow River winding ahead. With distant mountains, the great river, and the grassland all in one frame, the expansive view instantly brings a sense of calm. I booked a river-view room with full smart room controls, allowing me to enjoy the Yellow River's changing light from dawn to dusk while lying in bed. In the morning, I watched thin mist cover the river, and in the evening, I waited for the sunset to paint the Yellow River gold—the ambiance was incredible. The farm offers butler service with thoughtful, responsive care. It’s also pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry friends along. There’s a wide selection of room types, including twin, family, and triple rooms, making it a great choice for family trips with seniors and children. ✨Farm experience highlights 1. Excellent location, right next to the Dayudu Yellow River Scenic Area. In your free time, you can stroll through the scenic area and experience Yellow River culture. 2. Well-equipped with a large outdoor lawn, perfect for walking, camping, taking photos, and watching the Yellow River sunset. 3. Great for families. As a family-friendly hotel, children can run freely on the grass and get close to nature. 💡Travel tips 1. Rooms are in high demand on popular dates, so we recommend booking in advance. If there’s no availability, you can set up a room alert. 2. We recommend driving. The farm has convenient parking, and the scenery along the Yellow River is beautiful, making it perfect for a road trip along the southern Shanxi route. 3. There is a large temperature difference between day and night. It gets quite windy near the Yellow River in the evening, so remember to bring a light jacket. 4. Bring your camera. The Yellow River sunset in the evening is the signature view here, and every shot is a masterpiece. Escape the city hustle and bustle, spend a night by the Yellow River Bay, listen to the flowing water, and take in the vast landscape. For a vacation in Ruicheng, Shanxi, this farm is perfect for slowing down and recharging.

3 days, 12 ancient sites | Copy this Yuncheng historical route directly

The attractions are scattered, so driving is the most worry-free option. 📅Day 1: The secret realm of ancient architecture in Xinjiang | A collection of Song, Jin, and Yuan aesthetics Unlock the low-key, thousand-year-old Jiangzhou Ancient City—niche and absolutely stunning! ✅Longxing Temple: Climb to the top of the Longxing Pagoda for a bird's-eye view of the city. The underground houses super precious Song and Jin dynasty tombs, full of historical depth. ✅Xinjiang Catholic Church: A Republic of China-era Gothic style with a blend of Chinese and Western elements, a healing photo spot in the ancient city. ✅Sanguan Temple: A super exquisite small Yuan dynasty building with incredibly intricate carvings. ✅Fusheng Temple: A must-see! Built without a single iron nail, with cloud-like dougong brackets—a miracle of ancient architecture. ✅Li Family Courtyard: A massive merchant mansion in Shanxi, featuring a blend of Chinese and Western architecture with tons of exquisite brick and wood carvings. ✅Jishan Jiwang Temple: A thousand-year-old temple dedicated to the ancestor of agriculture, with exquisite ancient architectural craftsmanship. ✅Macun Brick-Carved Tombs: An underground Song and Jin dynasty mansion! Extremely delicate brick carvings that replicate the daily life of a thousand years ago. 💡A few thoughts Yuncheng is really not a "viral" tourist city. But every ancient site here is a genuine national treasure. It's not overly commercialized—just quiet, profound, and healing. If you love ancient architecture, humanities, and slow travel, you must come here at least once!

Luya Mountain is absolutely breathtaking — traveler post in Yuncheng

Luya Mountain is absolutely breathtaking

If you know, you know! Shanxi is more than just ancient cities! Luya Mountain is a hidden wilderness gem😭 When people think of Shanxi, the first things that come to mind are the Ancient City of Pingyao and the Shanxi Merchant Courtyards! I was completely blown away by my visit to Luya Mountain. Who knew Shanxi hid such stunning natural scenery✨ It's uncrowded, not overly commercialized, and affordable. You get it all in one trip: alpine meadows, a million-year-old ice cave, hanging villages on cliffs, and cloud-covered forests. I really struck gold! 📍Location: Luya Mountain, Ningwu, Xinzhou, Shanxi 🌿Malun Grassland | North China Alpine Meadow At an altitude of over 2,000 meters, the sub-alpine meadow opens up before your eyes! Green grass spreads across the mountains, cattle and sheep graze leisurely, and the strange peaks of Luya Mountain stand in the distance. It's very easy to encounter a sea of clouds on mornings after rain, with mist rolling through the valleys. Standing on the meadow, the wind carries the scent of grass and trees—it's like a mini Altay for photos🌈 No need to fight crowds; just find a patch of grass, sit back, and zone out. It's incredibly healing. ❄️Million-Year Ice Cave | A 3-million-year-old ice and snow wonder It completely defies imagination! It's sunny and hot outside, but the cave stays at a constant -4°C. Inside, you're surrounded by ice pillars and ice waterfalls. When the colorful lights hit them, they look crystal clear, like stepping into a palace from Frozen. It's very cold inside, so you can rent a padded jacket on-site. You must experience this magical contrast of "midsummer outside, deep winter inside" for yourself. 🏡Hanging Ancient Village (Wanghuagou) | A village on a cliff Truly breathtaking! The village is built on a 2,300-meter cliff. The back half of the wooden houses leans against the mountain, while the front half is supported by sturdy wooden pillars, with wooden walkways extending along the cliff edge. A few original residents still live in the village; there are no crowds of influencer shops, just quiet, original ecology. At sunset, the light hits the wooden houses, creating an incredible atmosphere. Walking on the boardwalk, you look down into a bottomless valley. ⛰️Luya Mountain Main Peak & Primitive Forest The path takes you through dense, primitive forests, lush with green. If you're lucky enough to encounter heavy fog, the whole mountain is wrapped in mist, with clouds flowing through the trees, as if you've stepped into a fantasy realm. If you're not feeling up to the climb, just hiking through the forest is comfortable enough. 🍜Local Food & Accommodation Eat and stay in Dongzhai Town for great value! I recommend youmian kaolaolao (oat noodles), potato stewed with lamb, and stir-fried mountain mushrooms with meat—all made with local ingredients, with generous portions at affordable prices. There are many homestay options in town, where you can get a clean room for around 100 yuan, so there's no need to squeeze into expensive scenic area hotels. ⚠️Travel Tips 1. The attractions are far apart, so I highly recommend driving yourself or hiring a car. There are no shuttle buses to the Ice Cave or Hanging Village on the north line! 2. The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is huge! Even in summer, it's very cool on the mountain, so be sure to bring a windbreaker. 3. The mountain roads have many curves, so drive slowly and watch out for falling rocks. Wear non-slip sneakers, as there are quite a few steps to hike. 4. You can buy tickets separately; no need to buy the full set at once. Choose what you need, and the overall ticket prices aren't expensive. 5. The UV rays are strong on the mountain, so bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent. There aren't many convenience stores in the mountains, so bring your own water and snacks. I really love this kind of scenery that isn't over-packaged. No noisy influencer shops, just the wilderness, ice caves, and ancient cliff villages—all quiet and peaceful. If you want to escape the city and see original, natural scenery, Luya Mountain is the place.

3 things you must see before going to Shanxi — traveler post in Yuncheng

3 things you must see before going to Shanxi

Hello~ I'm Ziran, a travel lover. After completing the Southern Shanxi ancient architecture loop, I truly felt the profound history of Shanxi. Sharing a complete 7-day, 6-night itinerary reference, along with 3 useful travel tips. 📝 Itinerary reference (departing from Guangzhou) Day 1 Guangzhou → Linfen Yaodu Airport. Check into a hotel in downtown Linfen. Rent a shared e-bike to explore the Linfen Drum Tower, snack street, and the Linfen internet-famous wall. Day 2 Tiefo Temple (Dayun Temple), Linfen Museum (both are closed on Mondays). ———Self-driving starts from Day 3——— Day 3 Morning: Fencheng Ancient Architectural Complex | Afternoon: Xi County, enjoy local food, see the Drum Tower night view, stay near Xiaoxitian in Xi County. Day 4 Early morning: Xiaoxitian | Afternoon: Hukou Waterfall (both Shanxi and Shaanxi sides), stay in Ji County. Day 5 Drive towards Yuncheng. Morning: Wanrong Houtu Temple (Qiufeng Tower) | Afternoon: Feiyun Tower | Evening: Head to Jiezhou, stay near Jiezhou Guandi Temple. Day 6 Morning: Jiezhou Guandi Temple | Afternoon: Ruicheng Yongle Palace, Guangrenwang Temple | Evening: Arrive in downtown Yuncheng, stay in Yanhu District. Day 7 One-day tour of downtown Yuncheng Salt Lake: Yuncheng Museum, Gu Street, Catholic Church, Chishen Temple, Highway 006 photo spot. Return the car near the airport, Yuncheng Yanhu Airport → Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. If you don't do these 3 things, your travel experience will be greatly diminished: 1️⃣ Don't forget a telephoto/teleconverter lens Shanxi's ancient architecture hides a wealth of exquisite details; the roof beasts, caisson ceilings, and hanging sculptures are all incredibly beautiful. However, due to the height of the buildings and cultural relic protection, you often can't get close. Bringing a teleconverter lens is the only way to bring those complex and delicate patterns up close to capture them. I forgot to bring my lens to Xiaoxitian in Xi County, and I still consider it a small regret of this trip. 2️⃣ Don't self-drive without planning your route The ancient architecture in Shanxi is very scattered. Even within the same city, traveling between different counties and towns can take one to two hours. Unless the attractions are very close to each other, try not to schedule more than 2 spots in one day. 3️⃣ Don't skip hiring a guide Even if you've done your homework in advance, I highly recommend hiring a guide. The architectural logic, the Buddhist and Taoist stories behind the murals and sculptures—many of the true highlights of the attractions need a professional guide to explain them in detail. You can no longer climb the Feihong Pagoda at Guangsheng Temple, but our guide shared real photos of the glazed caisson ceiling with us. At Xiaoxitian, facing the niches filled with gods and Buddhas, it was also thanks to the guide that I understood the stories of the sculptors and the concept of the "Five Buddhas in One Hall." It helps you understand the blend of heavenly atmosphere and human life.

A hidden Taoist gem in Taiyuan | Shanxi Museum of Ancient Architecture — traveler post in Yuncheng

A hidden Taoist gem in Taiyuan | Shanxi Museum of Ancient Architecture

This Chunyang Palace is both a Taoist temple dedicated to Lü Dongbin and the Shanxi Museum of Ancient Architecture. It is uncrowded and rich in artifacts; you could easily spend an entire afternoon here. ▫️ About Chunyang Palace Also known as the Lüzu Temple, it was built in the Yuan Dynasty and expanded during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the central temple among the three major Taoist temples in Shanxi, with the Yongle Palace to the south and the Datong Chunyang Palace to the north. The five-courtyard complex blends northern and southern garden styles, creating a full Taoist atmosphere. The iconic Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams Courtyard is the highlight, built according to the Eight Trigrams; the pavilions and corridors are interconnected, winding and ingeniously designed. ▫️ Three must-see treasures 1️⃣ Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams Courtyard The nine kilns and eighteen caves are layered and staggered. The blue-green glazed ancient architecture is perfect for photos, and the blue bricks and red corridors make for great traditional-style shots. 2️⃣ Nirvana Stele A whole row of Han and Tang Dynasty stone carvings and steles! The Tang Dynasty reliefs vividly depict the Buddha's story with smooth, gorgeous lines. These thousand-year-old carvings standing quietly in the corridor are truly impressive. 3️⃣ Changyang Heavenly Venerable Statue A tall Sui Dynasty stone statue stands under the corridor with delicate clothing carvings. Looking up at it, you instantly understand the aesthetics of ancient sculpture. ▫️ Plenty of lesser-known ancient statues perfect for photos The cave dwellings hide Ming Dynasty wooden Guan Gong statues, gilded bronze Skanda statues, and gilded Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statues. The wooden statues have clear textures, and the gilding, though weathered, remains exquisite. The dark-toned brick walls create an amazing atmosphere, and it's a niche spot where you won't run into crowds. The entire stele corridor is filled with Buddha heads, giant standing Buddhas, and steles from various dynasties; history buffs could stand here for hours. A courtyard of Taoist architecture, a corridor full of thousand-year-old Buddhist stone carvings—the coexistence of Buddhist and Taoist culture is truly unique. ▫️ Travel tips 📍 Address: Chunyang Palace, Yingze District, Taiyuan 🎫 Tickets: Free, bring your ID card to register for entry ⏰ Duration: 2–3 hours Outfit advice: Light-colored Hanfu or "New Chinese" style, which matches perfectly with the blue tiles and red walls It's super uncrowded, no need to squeeze through crowds, and quietly viewing the artifacts is so healing

Guanque Tower

I hadn't originally planned to visit the Stork Tower, as it's a reconstruction completed in 2002. However, I came across a travelogue about climbing it, and perhaps the focus for modern people isn't so much on whether it's an ancient building, but rather on Wang Zhihuan's famous line, "To see a thousand miles further, climb one more story." When you reach the top and gaze into the distance—the Yellow River, the Zhongtiao Mountains, the blue sky and white clouds overhead, the wind blowing from Fengling Ferry—don't we feel the same sentiment as Wang Zhihuan back then? Sometimes, even a simple visit can lead to unexpected experiences. The scenic area has set up signature boards for each province, autonomous region, municipality, and region. Surprisingly, this tourist experience made the friendship between Qin and Jin (Shaanxi and Shaanxi) more tangible. The board for Shaanxi Province has already been replaced twice, as it's become too densely packed with signatures from friends from neighboring Shaanxi. The scenic area simply put up a sign at the very front of the signature corridor that reads "Qin People Gather!" It looks like it'll be full soon too.

Yuncheng Guan Gong Hometown Cultural Tourism Scenic Area

The ancestral temple of Guan Yu, one of the 30,000 temples worldwide, is indeed magnificent and awe-inspiring. Several emperors personally inscribed plaques, making it a royal temple exuding grandeur. It's a bit far from the city center, so it's advisable to plan your time accordingly.

Pujiu Temple·Romance of the Western Chamber

The scenic area isn't large; it takes a little over an hour to tour the whole thing. Many parts of the area are thoughtfully designed, and the paintings and text on the walls are quite interesting. Although there were many people during the National Day holiday, it didn't feel crowded.

Guandi Temple in Sitou

Brought the kids there, the cultural relics and ancient buildings were really shocking. We asked for a guide and learned some history. It's really worth a visit. Not many people there, so it's worth it. The only thing is that the incense and worship items in the main hall are quite expensive. We went to the Temple of the God of Wealth at the back, where the incense prices are more affordable.

Li Family Courtyard

This place is definitely worth visiting. The character, kindness, generosity, and love of Shanxi merchants can be fully experienced here. I am deeply amazed by the harmonious blend of artistry and practicality in Chinese architecture; it fills me with immense pride.

Wanrong Feiyun Tower Scenic Area

Wanrong Feiyun Tower, hailed as the No. 1 wooden tower in China, is a pinnacle of ancient Chinese wooden architecture. The entire tower is constructed entirely of wood, without a single iron nail, relying solely on mortise and tenon joints for connection – a testament to its ingenious design. While appearing to have three stories, it actually contains five, with four colossal pillars extending from the ground floor to the roof, supported by 32 auxiliary pillars forming a stable framework. Beneath the eaves are 345 sets of uniquely shaped brackets, layered like clusters of clouds, both sharing the load and possessing aesthetic appeal. Thirty-two upturned eaves gracefully extend into the air, their chimes ringing in the wind. Standing below and looking up, the orderly arrangement of the wooden components, standing firm through centuries of wind and rain, fully demonstrates the superb construction skills of ancient craftsmen, making it a must-see wooden architectural marvel in Shanxi.

Great Ladder Cliff of The Yellow River

Climb the ladder up, take the elevator down. Definitely don't take the elevator up and go down the stairs! Your legs will go weak! Climbing the ladder isn't as difficult as you might imagine, but you've only climbed about a third of the way; you have to keep going to reach the top. It's worth it! By the way, the prices in the scenic area are very reasonable; items at the top are only one yuan more expensive than usual, which is perfectly acceptable. Also, the scenic area's special performances are really good; the people performing so gracefully at such a height are truly admirable.

Temple of Prince Guangren

On the Loess Plateau, the minimalist aesthetics of the Tang Dynasty shine through. Hidden in the southern Shanxi plateau is the Guangrenwang Temple, a single-eaved hip roof structure with imposing bracket sets and deep eaves. It is the only Tang Dynasty Taoist wooden structure in my country. Without ornate carvings, its simple grandeur embodies the essence of the Tang Dynasty. Without elaborate decorations, its minimalist structure is its aesthetic.
