Hotel Don Taco

We stayed there for a night and had great time. We typically don't spend much time in our hotel and this was no exception. However, the beds were good and the room was clean. Great balcony with an amazing view. Sure the TV was ancient but who cares! The complimentary welcome drinks don't include any alcohol but the juice was great and we thought the food was fine and we enjoyed it. It is a climb if getting there by foot. We drove so that was not a problem. One thing that I will say is that it was very, very windy up there. The wind was whipping at our balcony door all night and I was waiting for it to shatter. It did not happen of course but it did keep me up since I am a light sleeper-- everybody else slept fine. They even liked the sound of the wind whipping away at the room. In addition to the balcony in our room, which is big enough for yoga, etc, there is a communal balcony as well, where you one can do yoga, enjoy the view, or hang out and talk to others in the sun. Overall, our stay was excellent and we enjoyed it. While there we did the night tour, zipline, and walked around and ate in the town center.
El Establo Mountain Hotel

The hotel consists of many buildings spread across a hillside. Shuttle service is available between hotel buildings, but not to off-property locations. Internet service/WiFi was not available near the rooms (also noted in someone's review from last month) and cell phone reception was very spotty. The bathroom area lighting is very dim. Noise from the hallway and outside can be bothersome as the only ventilation is through open window slats which is OK for the climate, but if you pull down the ceiling to floor shades/curtains for privacy, the ventilation slats are blocked. I would not rate the hotel anywhere near ”78” for walkability as shown in the TripAdvisor summary. The grounds are nice and wildlife is around but depending upon which building your room is in, it could be 1/2 mile or more up/down a steep incline from/to the restaurant & lobby common areas where WiFi was available, you'll need to call for a shuttle and wait 5 - 15 minutes for a ride. The restaurant and food were good and staff were friendly. The room was clean and large, but had limited furnishings. Our room had no decoration and the only two chairs were for the balcony, there were no chairs inside the room.

Santa Elena
We really liked this place. It is not top end luxury, but it is clean, comfortable and has a very convenient location. The nature trail, common areas, pool area and gardens are all very well maintained. The included breakfast was also very high quality and the reception staff were all very welcoming and friendly. We would happily stay here again. The only minor complaint is that food prices in the restaurant were a little high, but it's not a big issue given there are many places to eat close by that offer better value.
Mar Inn Costa Rica

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was spacious and clean and the staff very friendly. There are some balconies and a garden area, and this is for common use but not all quests seemed to be aware of this and some took quite ownership. So, the hotel could probably stress this a bit more. But we did manage to enjoy the balcony which was close to our room. The hotel is located up a steep hill from the city center and this was probably the only downside to the hotel. The city has several cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets. The breakfast is table service with several different options. When the hotel is full and there is a group, you are kind of the second priority when you are not part of the group. But we did manage to make it work and did get breakfast.
Hotel Belmar

Ctrip 1k7 one night, in the official website, there are often 133 knives for two nights. Emmm... I know when I live. The hotel takes a taxi to the town for 4 knives or 2000 local coins. The environment is really good, hotel catering is not expensive, but with a 13% tax and a 10% service charge. Two people have a meal of about 70 knives.
