My flight was later in the evening but late check out timing will be 12 pm the latest. In this case I will be out without room for quite a number of hours. To my surprise, the hotel does cater a room for guests to rest and sit in after check out. This room is provide for guests who has check out but flight is much later, to have a place to rest and relax before proceeding to the airport. This is a very thoughtful action. Thanks.
Strongly recommend Sunway Georgetown. Tho 31 yr old, extremely well maintained, at least for my room. Location 5*. Just outside hotel bustling with activities n street food stalls in evening. Walking distance to Macalister Road, again bustling with plenty food choices/shops. I can’t find even 1 negative aspect of hotel! Staff very friendly n helpful. The shower water pressure was very strong, can aqua massage. The young male housekeeper always smiling. Also strongly recommend must visit, Kirishima Japanese resto in the lobby of Cittitel Hotel. For hotel setting, n qualify of food, esp sashimi air flown from Japan, can’t get this price n qualify in Singapore! So good that we went twice. Even their Otoro n chuotoro, charged by per piece or set of 5 thick cuts, not think slices, was value for $! Look for the manageress Jane Tan, a gem n star of the resto! Another must visit for morning snacks n kopi, Moh Teng Peow Nonya kueh. Very authentic n traditional setting. Kuehs are handmade in-house! Wonderful experience! The only negative is Penang island itself! Quite dead town, not much changes in tourist attractions from 30 yr ago. Penang hill, khek lok si temple, chawrasta morning market, Armenian street, Cornwall fort. Used to be popular komtar mall, even newer parangin mall are deserted with most shops shuttered! There are many old charm colonial buildings. Most McDonald’s are housed in such colonial buildings. Penangites are generally very friendly. We happen to be here during durian season. Macalister Road n even outside hotel are lined with durian stalls. Relatively much cheaper than in Singapore n I m talking about the AAA grade mao san wang cultivar. Fooding n bingeing is apt for Penang, not touristy spots tho, esp if u have been here before, even long ago. Attached pictures show day n nite views from same angle in the room.
Staffs were friendly and helpful. Able to get corner room with good Komtar tower and sea view. Check-in/out process was done fast and smoothly, no deposit collected. Room very spacious, comfortable king bed and 4 big pillow provided. Location is in main road to many attractions and local restaurants and free city bus stop no. 7 just in front of the hotel. Breakfast was splendid with very good variety of local, Chinese and Japanese meals. Really recommended!
Very new hotel an very fun vibes.
Room was very spacious and clean, though could still see some renovation leftover stains. The bathroom door could have been a better/heavier door, the current one feels too light and a little cheap. The bed is huge and comfortable! Balcony in our room is perfect for hanging swimwear to dry! Car park height restriction is 1.7m so larger cars need to park outdoor, but security does a great job to make sure that there’s space! There is no lift from car park to the lobby which was a shame, but it’s a work in progress. The walk from drop off to lobby is filled with steps/fairly steep ramp, so it’s tricky for people with weak knees or in wheelchair, though kids full of energy will find it very fun! Overall very good sty and friendly staff in the hotel. Xmas decorations were amazing and insta friendly!
From the very beginning, booking this hotel was an emotional rollercoaster. I had already bought and paid for it on Trip.com, and shortly after, their marketing person contacted me via WhatsApp saying the room I booked had the wrong rate. They asked me to cancel my hotel booking and book directly through them instead 😠. Is this some kind of scam by the hotel staff or what? I called them directly, and they still asked me to cancel, which is crazy! Even though my booking was confirmed when I called the hotel, the marketing department claimed there were no rooms available. Wow, that really made me angry! In the end, I refused to cancel because I had already paid. Your wrong rate or whatever else, what does that have to do with me? All I know is that when I booked, the room was available and I had paid for it. And what's even crazier is that when I checked out early in the morning, the receptionist said everything was fine when I handed over the key. But shortly after, they WhatsApped me saying a glass was broken. However, I left everything in good condition, and we didn't break anything. Make your profits legally; don't cheat customers. I'm never staying there again 😡😡
Beautiful heritage hotel with a touch of colonial charm. The location is convenient, within walking distance to many attractions and eateries. Room was spacious and clean, and the staff were polite and attentive. Breakfast spread could be slightly improved, but overall it was a very pleasant stay.
Everything is good, except there is no bidet in the toilet.
Location wise is very good. Malls were just next door. Walking distance to Cecil street marlet for breakfast and Kimberly night market for dinner.
Next to komtar Top and there is a nearby michelin nonya restaurant as well.
Room is well maintained n clean.
Had a cake at the Hotel cafe but doesnt really taste nice, can skip though 😅
Otherwise, everything is good.
The hotel is more than 40 years old and the rumour is tjt a new management has taken over and a major renovation is about to happen in 2026. The only thing we really enjoyed was the view from the rooms overlooking the sea and the Penang bridge. We were here becuase we attended a wedding and wanted the convenience but the Banquet team did not provide us with the best service for the event area and we have sent a separate email to address that.
Indicated for birthday celebration, ignored remark, no service or extra wow service.
Requested for bouquet to deliver to room upon receive, reception keep it till evening until we call to request and reception request guard to deliver to us.
Overall hotel grade conventional hospitality. No wow service or beach grade 4 stars feel.
Parking need to walk very far to next building of you reach on weekend and if there is event.
Noisy and dirty beach due to abandoned wood branches and no maintenance
Very Good

GGuest Userthis hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.

GGuest UserI absolutely love this hotel! It far exceeded my expectations. Initially, I just wanted a value-for-money option for my Penang trip, but staying here turned out to be amazing. The location is very convenient for exploring George Town’s attractions. The breakfast is fantastic! On my last day, I had to catch an early flight and paid for breakfast—never expected the variety and quality of food to be so worth the price. The staff are friendly, and the housekeeping team is polite and welcoming. The night view through the floor-to-ceiling windows was my favorite moment each night. I’ll definitely choose St Giles again when I return to Penang!
MMicyeeThe hotel is located about 10–15 minutes away from the town. The surrounding area is rather quiet, with no eateries nearby, but there’s a cozy café at the lobby. Check-in was smooth and efficient, each guest even received a drink voucher, which can be redeemed for coffee, tea, or orange juice. The room itself is very spacious and comfortable. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The shower area doesn’t have a door, so water tends to splash outside. The bathroom drainage is slightly clogged, and the bathroom door cannot be fully closed, which may feel a bit awkward if staying with friends. Lastly, the bed sheet had an unpleasant smell, which was quite disappointing. Overall, the stay was consider ok in terms of space and service, but cleanliness and bathroom maintenance could be better.

MM326936****The room was quite new, it was an apartment. The pictures listed are actual photos, so you can trust them. We stayed in a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment for four people. It's located a little way from the city center, so we took taxis for everything. If you're staying in the city center, the apartments are quite old, so it's not necessary. I think this place is quite nice, and there's even an infinity pool on the rooftop. Highly recommended.

BByapI recently stayed at Shangri-La Golden Sands in Penang, and overall it was a pleasant experience. The location is definitely one of the highlights — it’s convenient, close to the beach, and surrounded by plenty of food and activities. The hotel itself looks nice and well-maintained, with a relaxing atmosphere that makes it great for a getaway.
However, I do feel that the service could be better. While some staff were friendly, there were moments where the service felt a bit slow or inattentive. With a few improvements in this area, the experience could be truly excellent.
IIsabelleyishaThe hotel location is right on the hot spot of Georgetown. But it goes with noise at night until 2am. So if you plan to be partying at night it's ideal and walking distance to Love Lane and all Georgetown touristic areas.
But if you wish to sleep and relax after midnight definitely not the right hotel for you.
The room was OK in terms of size but a lot of mosquitoes coming from the bathroom drain. I've killed at least 50 of them thanks to a mosquito raquet 🤣 The tip is to close the bathroom curtains so they don't get in the bedroom.
Humidity in the room had the paint peeling off.
For the price I don't think the room quality was enough. Specially for the humidity and mosquitoes combination.
The breakfast menu was not available but you can easily go down the street and eat at ease or order with the application grab. No bar available in the hotel.
The shared areas are clean. Loved that you have to take off your shoes at the entrance.
There are stairs to get into the hotel but they help you with your luggage. The first time you arrive you need to ring the bell for them to come open for you. Small door not easy to spot at first. I suggest to the hotel to stick the name directly on the door at eye level and big to avoid confusion. I've uploaded a picture of the door for you to not get lost.
After you check in they will give you the door code so easy for you to get by.
Staff has been helpful when asked but not interacting or giving you suggestion or asking you how things are going.
I've rated cleanness average because there was a lot of hair in the bathroom when I arrived. Had to literally take it off during 5 minutes. Thick long hair... Not sure how they didn't spot it.
Apart of that they were cleaning all right the rest of the stay.
Internet was not easy to get when in the room but in common areas or close to the door of the room works better. Don't save on a sim card and buy at the airport for having internet at all times on your phone. Will help you with maps and outside anyway.
The taxi from the airport was very convenient only 30 minutes and I ordered with grab came within 5 minutes.
Hope this information helps 🌹
