The Marcliffe is a classic but elegant hotel, with welcoming front desk staff. The room on the ground floor was nice but dated, and we expected for the price a nicer updated room; Breakfast was very nice, with friendly and professional staff, and a nice start of the day. The only remark we have that if you are dining out, the entrance of the hotel is very dark and not clearly seen from the road ....

My husband and I dined in the Conservatory last night for the first time. From the minute we entered the hotel, we were very impressed. We were welcomed by the friendly reception staff and spent a very relaxing 30 minutes in the drawing room listening to the piano music with a drink and enjoying the ambience. We then went to the Conservatory and had the most amazing meal. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the desserts were out of this world. The service in the dining room was exceptional. The staff were very professional and attentive. We had coffee back in the drawing room whilst enjoying the lovely surroundings and atmosphere. It was a most memorable evening and we will definitely return.

Lovely building in spacious grounds. Easy access from the AWPR and plenty parking. Room was clean and comfortable with coffee, tea, milk, water and a small fridge. The bed was amazingly comfortable - like sleeping on a cloud!

Generally a nice hotel but disappointing in a few areas. Breakfast and dinner were good. The grounds are pretty and well maintained. Be aware there is a large construction site next door to the hotel. While we were there the banging, drilling and trucks started at 07:00 and went on until after 17:30. It was a hot few days, but we couldn’t have the window open because of the noise. The room was a bit dated with a fairly random collection of furniture and styles ranging from the early 90s to the mid 2000’s. It would benefit from a refurb / redesign of the rooms. The bathroom had dangerously hot water and be careful not to touch the towel rail! The black mould on the tile grout in the bath was disappointing. Overall it was fine, but just a bit tired.

I paid for my wife to receive a birthday treatment last week at the SPA. I paid £65 for a 1 hour Indian Head Massage which only lasted 40 mins and was head, shoulders and neck. There was a small amount of time on the head. I won’t be purchasing treatments again in future. The SPA has dropped the ball of late.

Sadly not The Marcliffe of yesteryear! Visited for the famous Marcliffe Afternoon Tea earlier this week with friends who had never been. Unfortunately, the offering for the price per head, was not a patch on the previous owners standards. The sandwich fillings were anything but up to scratch and the bread was stale and dry. The cakes looked beautiful but were absolutely tasteless! We were sat facing the bar and a waitress was standing speaking, behind the bar to a colleague, whilst yawning every few seconds. Not exactly a reflection of a 5 ⭐️establishment? I agree with the reviewer below, the hotel looks like it needs a re injection of Mr Spence! Shame, as George serving us in the drawing room was the only member of staff who seemed to have any idea of how the Marcliffe used to be. There are now much better offerings out there being much better value for money with 5 ⭐️ service thrown in. We definitely will not be back.

Very tired hotel requiring renovation - and very over priced Staff are excellent and work hard - food is first class Sadly the suites in particular are very dated and shabby We were downgraded and the downgraded room was actually in better condition than the suite Complained to management - no response!
