Highly recommended by two experienced visitors to India I was looking forward to Mrs B's to end a short two week break in the sub-continent. This place exceeded all expectations. I have been 17 times to India from 2007-2023 so I've seen a bit of the place. Mrs B's Guesthouse is like a cross between your own accommodation with elements of a homestay thrown in, you choose how much. The rooms are simply retro-gorgeous. A generously sized property with its own extensive gardens and a few buffalo out the back (more on them later) is instantly appealing. From the moment we entered the gate Mrs B's daughter who now runs the place and her simply fabulous loyal staff could not do enough for us. Tea was served on the verandah outside our rooms immediately and the most relaxing 4 days began. A simple breakfast is included in the tariff with other meal options available (including short notice lunches) on a paid basis. Every morning our marvellous host and her friendly and attentive staff served us breakfast. Omelette, eggs, toast, cereal, porridge, home made delicious jams and lashings of masala chai. Mrs B's daughter then chatted away with us. A mixture of wonderful advice and suggestions to go with what we already had worked out for our to do list combined with wonderful stories of her mother Mrs B and life in Punjab pre and post partition. This lady is wise and a joy to simply sit and listen to. Her staff organised transport to and from the Attari border ceremony as well as the station. Laundry, meals everything was just no trouble. We ate in the pantry, then had a tour of the "real" dining room and other reception rooms used for larger groups that just we three. Delightful. An absolute must is to order by 3pm for your evening meal "on premises". One night my friends had a roast chicken cooked in a fuel stove. I had a scrumptious mutton curry with a rare side dish made from parts of the radish plant. All produce comes from the garden on site. Then, dessert. Stewed guavas and mangoes with fresh buffalo cream from the girls out the back. Do I need to say more. This place is all that was and is still good about dear India. My friends and I left positive and happy with life and just on a buzz about our stay. We are still talking about it. Mrs B's daughter, her staff, the property itself, lovely location, just everything was perfect, really spot on. And the cost, embarrassingly reasonable. Do go and experience something different to how some parts of India are becoming. This is gracious living at its best.
