Hotel Okura Amsterdam – the Leading Hotels of the World

Amsterdam Oud Zuid Amsterdam|1.33km from Amsterdam RAI
We decided to splurge on this 5 star hotel for a long anticipated family reunion. Unfortunately the experience was marred by a series of disappointments caused by utterly incompetent hotel staff. When I called ahead on the day of our arrival to request an early check-in the hotel rep. sternly informed me that I would have to pay a 120 Euro charge for the privilege! We are experienced travelers and never have we encountered such a demand. We took our chances regardless and decided to show up 2 hours early. Sure enough, our room was already ready and we were allowed to occupy it at no extra charge. Things really started to go south when a limousine that I had arranged for separate airport pickup of my daughter’s family through the concierge showed up at the airport unequipped with a baby car seat. I had expressly requested this when I booked the service. This was also specified in the booking confirmation sent by email to me by the concierge. The reaction I later got when I complained to the concierge was that I was not charged extra for the baby seat - as if this was the main issue! Furthermore, this was the first time that I was informed of such a charge, as no mention of this had been made in the email confirmation of the limo reservation which I originally received from the concierge. More importantly, what is more concerning is the utter indifference he showed for the safety of a guest’s infant grandchild. All that concerned him was the money angle to the failure. Things soon got worse. When we checked into our room we lifted the bed cover to discover several hairs and multiple red and yellow stains. Unbelievably, the chambermaid had neglected to change the bedsheets. This, in a 5 star hotel! After we called reception, staff was quickly sent to our room to change them. We never heard further from management about this. We later had dinner at Serre restaurant onsite and left the place hungry. The chef seems to focus on presentation and less on the reasonableness of the portions. My wife had a fish main course which was equivalent to 3 forkfuls. The minuscule dessert was pretty to look at but was grossly inadequate even for one person. The restaurant style is a throwback to the old Nouvelle Cuisine school. For the icing on the cake: a voucher for a round of drinks on the house at the rooftop bar that the guest services manager had kindly given me was bungled by the bar staff. When I arrived home I discovered a mysterious charge of 66 Euros by the Twenty-Third Floor Bar. The bar staff set new standards of incompetence in taking my voucher and charging me anyway.I had to call the hotel for credit but I am losing money anyway from the spread in exchange rates used by credit card companies. To be fair, the Superior View room was extremely spacious and comfortable with a magnificent view. The large pool and ample spa facilities were enjoyable and a significant convenience . Also the reception desk personnel were very professional and welco

Amsterdam Oud Zuid
Review Staff: Friendly, Helpful and Kind, staff were bilingual from what I could understand English and Dutch Location: Easy to get to via bus by the 397 from the Schiphol Airport to the Van Gogh Museum and walk 10-15 minutes or take the Tram 3 the rest of the way. Amenities: They offer multiple consoles to select from to put in your room if you're into that and have a mini cafe/bar in the lounge. Cleanliness: Bedding and towels were clean on arrival but there was a weird smudged substance on the wall that was not cleaned for some reason. Would I recommend: If you are into gaming it's a great location to stay and the price is not bad. There's a nice variety of consoles and games to select but with other peoples reviews and my experience I would not be able to verify how clean your room may be upon arrival.

They do not deserve the TripAdvisor award. The location of the hotel isn’t bad BUT it isn’t great either. It’s quite a distance from everything even though public transport is convenient - there’s a bit of walking to do. Nothing to eat around here after 9pm and you need to order deliveroo but the options there are limited too. Service: First, the room had NO air conditioning. It was stuffy and had no ventilation. Told them 3 times and they just left a note saying that they have taken note of this? Bonvoy service? I’ve travelled so much pre Covid - I think the service standards shouldn’t have changed this much? We had one lady Andre (from Barcelona) who was very helpful but the manager and the other front desk people weren’t any help at all let alone service. Second, the room was so so. There aren’t much amenities- just soup and shampoo. No toothbrush etc. Towels are small. Third, breakfast- every day’s breakfast was exactly the same maybe except one dish. I get elemen isn’t the higher grade Marriott group hotels BUT for all other Bonvoy members out there- just stay at the main Marriott or another hotel group.

The hotel is located in Amsterdam Amstel and is connected to the Metro (Station Overamstel, approx. 6 min. by foot). So it's a great starting point to experience the city of Amsterdam. Especially wellness and gym are a nice possibility to use. The rooms are modern and clean. Breakfast is also versatile and fresh. The restaurant is not as good as expected, but still solid. The service was friendly and attentive at all times, the cocktails in the bar ”Moqum” in the lobby are also really recommendable.

Absolutely superb modern spacious hotel. Three minutes from the Metro. Big glass windows making it very light. We had a huge room. Fabulous double shower. Separate loo. Big tv. Comfortable twin beds. Rather hot at night. It was quiet even though right beside the railway and a big road but as we were on the 9th floor we just saw the distant views. Reception on floor 5 which is confusing at first.Staff incredibly friendly helpful and polite. Breakfasts superb. So much choice. We ate the first night in the hotel and the food was excellent as was the service. The reception staff were very helpful with advice on places to visit. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel just 5 stops on the metro to the central station in Amsterdam. I would definitely return should I make another visit. I believe it is part of the biggest family owned chain of hotels and their hotels were recommended to me by a Dutch friend.

Absolutely disgusting service from Danilo. Ordered a silver gin with lemonade - drink came with bitter lemon Until I poured it into the glass I assumed it was cloudy lemonade. On tasting it I realised it was bitter lemon and promptly asked to change the drink to lemonade. The lady behind the bar only had sprite which was fine however Danilo then appeared and demanded I pay for another Gin and sprite I said I didn’t want that drink and he swiftly removed it. This is despite us paying over £50 for a round of drinks Room basic but ok - lacking Kettle and basic coffee making facilities Bar area nice for the price however has now been over shadowed by the disgraceful attitude of the Bar man Fortunately there have been very few of my reviews that have been one star but this is one of those places you will find good if you encounter no problems - otherwise be prepared for substandard customer service and lack of understanding of a customers needs
