My husband and I were just passing through the area, and needed somewhere to stay the night after a long drive south from Holland. The Schlosswirt is just off the motorway, with convenient parking. Our double room was an absolute picture, combining antique furniture with modern technology and other fittings designed to provide comfort. Another highlight was our evening meal (including a memorable Tafelspitz and great Austrian wines). Charming breakfast too. Very friendly staff throughout the establishment, and the whole bill good value for money. Convenient situation for a walk in the village and the surrounding countryside (we saw traces of beavers, plus Karajan's grave!). Sadly we had to move on after one night, but we would love to come and stay again. Thank you, Schlosswirt and Schlosswirtin!

The 4-star Hotel Friesacher is located in Anif’s centre, 5 km outside of Salzburg. It offers a cocktail bar, a wellness centre and a heated outdoor pool. The restaurant serves products from the hotel’s own farm. A minibar and telephone are standard in all rooms. Each has en suite bathroom with a shower or bathtub, bathrobes and a hairdryer. Spa facilities include steam baths, sauna, modern gym and solarium. You can also book a massage or beauty treatment. The spa relaxation room has water beds and direct access to the poolside terrace. The cocktail bar at Friesacher Hotel offers several lounge rooms with comfortable leather armchairs and fireplaces. The menu includes Austrian wines, cocktails and cigars. A lovely quiet location opposite the zoo and Hellbrunn Palace, and a bus ride direct to Salzburg or a short ride the opposite direction for the cable car. A lovely hotel with a fab view over the mountains from the back. Only downside for maybe a solo traveller is that there is no reception but on hand via whattsapp. Restaurant is not attached but def worth a visit as the food was wonderful. Not too far from other hotels and we found a couple of nice restaurant/bars.

We stayed for 4 nights in late April/early May. Our honest opinion is there is much to be very happy with ....but, there are a few things which prevented our stay from being excellent. The location is perfect if you want to explore Salzburg and the surrounding area. Parking is easily available and we also made use of the local bus service to get into Salzburg, using the app and buying a 24 hour card. The bus stop is a short walk away. The hotel has been designed to an exceptionally high modern standard. The finish, the furnishings, the decoration, the cleanliness - it's all very good indeed. There are other special touches, including access to hot drinks throughout the day from a good coffee machine. This was appreciated. Our room was a small double, finished to an excellent standard. Clean, with large walk in shower. We felt one of our mattresses (two single beds pushed together to make a double) was very uncomfortable, to the point of back ache and not a great night's sleep. We swapped sides part way through our stay to minimise the problem - One mattress was comfortable. One was awful. We were surprised to be woken up by housekeeping entering our room, shortly after 8am one morning. That's a bit early to be wanting to service bedrooms. Almost all of the staff we interacted with were friendly although we can't say everyone was, especially when they were busy. The breakfast staff were less friendly. Breakfast was a mixed, inconsistent experience. On the best days there was lots of choice and good quality items. On a couple of days, some items weren't replaced or topped up quickly enough - eg) croissants, eggs. One morning, we waited for a table for almost 25 minutes, with no acknowledgement from the staff and no queue. Other guests even jumped ahead of us to grab a table. That wasn't good, at all. The next couple of days we chose to have breakfast much earlier, which solved that problem. On check in, we were given a map of local restaurants, all a short drive away. We did go to a local pizzeria, which was acceptable. It's such a shame that there are no restaurant or bar facilities at the hotel, which would have made all of the difference for us. We would have really liked to enjoy an evening meal or even just drinks, at the hotel, after a busy day sightseeing. Our feedback is given with sincerity and is not a complaint. The hotel is beautiful and we would return. There are just some tweaks which would have made our experience better.

This stay coincided with the road construction in front of the hotel, the hotel did not place relevant detour instructions, etc. The hotel rooms are small, the facilities are relatively old, and the sound insulation effect is average. It is said that the house is 700 years old. The service attitude at the front desk of the hotel is okay, but the waiter in the restaurant has a very different attitude towards locals and Asian tourists. They have a bad attitude towards Asian tourists and are very indifferent.
