After researching the area (Anjuna, Panjim, etc) we found that MansionHaus was the best looking 5-Star boutique hotel in the region. Lots of articles claiming this and that. Well, not exactly… our arrival was nice, friendly and hassle free until we entered our suite which had a strong stench of mildew!! After looking around we found a wall covered with mildew stains!! The staff pretended to look surprised. It was impossible to not notice - they were just trying to cover it up. After some insisting we were moved over to another suite that was a little better. Cleaning is not the hotels strong point. The tile floors were not cleaned with water for multiple days, the sheets were not changed, a dead frog was left in a corner for a few days and rodent droppings too! The semi-private pool is shared with a few other suites. To our shock the other rooms decided to take our outdoor chairs and table so that they could dry their clothes (not bathing suits, clothes!). In fact, the other guests seemed to hand wash their underwear and clothes in the sink and left it out to dry. What a lovely sight to see everyone’s underwear with your morning coffee! Their internet site specifies a no-children policy. To our surprise, we spent two days sharing the small pool with over 6 young children playing and splashing. We have no problem with this, but if we had known, we would have also come with our family and kids - things are just not managed or communicated well. On the restaurant side things were better under the direction of Chef John although they don’t have any white wine in stock and only two references of red wine which both were extremely average! Their menu mentions multiple brand of vodka until the waiter explains that for the moment they are out of everything except one unknown brand! This is really not very serious. As for the other services…no turn down service, limited cleaning, not even a piece of paper and a pen in the room. This is a guest house, not a hotel.
