What a shame so much has changed since January! We agree the Villas are lovely, kept immaculately and the pool is great too. BUT currently it is like having a holiday in the middle of a building site. The work starts by 7.30am in the morning and continues all day - including on Saturday. Trying to relax with an angle grinder being used about 20 yards is hardly restful and spoilt our stay entirely. We were planning on staying by the pool all three days of our stay but went out to get away from the noise. Marianna was very empathetic but the Manager "was never available to speak to us". Arriving in the dark - and the rain - is not easy and its not clear where the entrance is, as due to the work taking place there are no lighting. We went into the Citrus and the Manager rang a security guard to come and help us. It would have been so hard to know where to go had we been later and the restaurent had closed. We then ate at the Citrus on our first night, which is excellent. We suggested the manager might like to treat us on our last night (of four) as a form of compensation. Marianna relayed his reply that "it was not possible" via a WhatsApp message. The hotel is closed and you have to tell Marianne what you want for breakfast, and the time you want it, the previous evening. There was a choice of three things that are delivered by a motor cycle courier. Bearing in mind this is not a cheap stay having breakfast delivered in a foam dish in a plastic bag is not what we were expecting. And bearing in mind we are in Costa Rica - where is the beautiful fruit we had everywhere else including cheaper hotels? The fact we were the only tourists there is probably a clue - hope the word is getting round. These were the last few days of a fabulous three weeks in Costa Rica where we have been very active so the thought of relaxing around the pool was wonderful - but not to be. I am sure this will be sorted but our advice is to be very clear ALL the work is finished and the hotel is OPEN again before booking.
