If you book Mountain Romance Hotel, you will have a warm, comfortable, friendly and enjoyable stay in Bansko. It's fantastic value for money, you'll have an easy walk to both the new and old town, and a very short and easy walk to the gondola and supermarkets. You will not regret booking here if you're just after a skiing holiday with somewhere pleasant to stay. The staff are wonderful. It's a very cosy, family-run hotel and the family that own it are the loveliest, warmest, most welcoming hoteliers I've ever met. They do everything they can to make your stay easy and comfortable and are very personable. We felt like we were old friends the entire time, they're always happy to have a chat to you. There are a few things to be aware of - we booked this hotel and were excited for the excellent views everyone has mentioned. We paid a little extra for the 'premium apartment' which was very large, had a good sized kitchen, a second bathroom and a very large living area. However, we were disappointed to find we were in the basement, and our view was of a brick wall sunk into the ground. We kept the curtains closed the whole time as people on the street could easily see in, and the curtains themselves are translucent, so be aware of this if you have the lights on and are getting changed, as you can clearly see through them from the street. Our room had an en-suite bath, however the hot water ran out very, very quickly. I suspect, given the cost of energy, this is an energy saving measure and totally understandable, however it did mean we both had very rapid showers and when we wanted a bath, we had to fill the kettle multiple times to warm the bath water. The spa itself is small but very nicely decorated and the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were perfect after a days snowboarding. I had the place mostly to myself while I was there and it was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend the spa if you visit! There's also a small but surprisingly well-equipped gym for those who still have energy after skiing. Breakfast was unusual to us Brits, however it seems to be homely Bulgarian-style meals. I had a variety of hot sausage/meats, eggs & cheeses, and some sweet, pasta-based breakfast buns I'd never had before. Coffee was available from the machine but had an odd hazelnut aftertaste. It did the trick though. Again, for the money you're paying, having a large selection of breakfast options is good value. Despite the odd quirks of the room, we would definitely stay again when we next visit Bansko.
