Perfect from start to finish. The room was immaculately clean and very tastefully decorated. The staff are very friendly and professional from the initial greeting to checking. I would highly recommend staying here if you get the chance.

1863 is a fabulous restaurant with rooms. The food is always exceptional and the staff passionate ! Rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable . Cumbrian breakfast is not to be missed ! This is a place we will visit again and again. We absolutely love coming here !!!!

I treated my best friend to the 1863 experience, and it exceeded all expectations. The room was absolutely stunning, offering an elegant and comfortable stay. The service was excellent, the team was attentive, the three-course meal was a culinary delight—I'm still dreaming about the amuse-bouche and that heavenly brioche. The wine list was extensive, providing plenty of excellent choices, and the breakfast was truly the cherry on top. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.

Ideal spot to stay on our road trip back from Scotland to the South coast The Room was very comfortable and had everything we needed The 3 course was Dinner amazing. They catered for me being a Coeliac so well. I felt I didn’t miss out on anything. We Will definitely go back again

Fabulous small hotel, real gem of find. The attention to detail from all the staff is just perfect, really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Room was really nice and perfect for stay. Nice touches with really high quality tea/coffee/hot chocolate and local gingerbread. Bed very comfortable, room spotlessly clean. Restaurant was outstanding. The 3 course meals was excellent, all perfectly explained and delivered taste on such a high level, you can see why it gets many awards. Wine / beer list is also extensive which superb choices. Breakfast was also superb, again it’s their attention to detail which is at another level. Highly recommend the hotel / restaurant. I was alone but would be perfect for couples and friends. Close to centre of town too

My husband and I are just back from a two night stay here, kindly bought for us as a retirement gift. Our stay was an absolute delight. The interior design of the entire property is comfortable and classy. We had the tasting menu, three course menu and two breakfasts during our stay, every single mouthful was delicious and beautifully presented and served in a very relaxed but professional environment. A special mention for our waitress, Kerry, who had the balance between ‘knowledgeable/friendly’ and being ‘over attentive’ spot on. Every member of staff we came across was polite and welcoming. Thank you for a fabulous stay, we hope to return. Highly recommend.

Superb! The accommodation and staff were excellent. Thought has gone into every detail and it shows. The food was amazing, and it was so much more than our tastebuds expected and we wer both still talking about it the next day. This is hidden gem that we will definitely return to!

Yet again another wonderful gastronomic experience! Thoroughly enjoyed both the 3 course and the tasting menu, with interesting and intelligent wine pairings that really enhanced the experience. The service was attentive and friendly without being fussy and we felt very well looked after. A real indulgent treat to mark a special occasion,
