We visited BI around 18 years ago for the first time. It was a wonderful experience and very quickly became our ‚get away‘ place. The atmosphere on the Island and in the hotel is unique.I f you enjoy the Art Deco era, then ….. Burgh Island will always be a favourite destination.

Burgh Island hotel trades on faded glory and location. It is grossly overpriced and overrated. I was extremely disappointed. My room was awful. The carpet was stained in many places. Blind in bathroom unusable. Bath chipped. Table split and cracked. Not in the least luxurious. Unimaginative menu, cheap produce. Ballroom and cocktail room nice. Above that floor, extremely ordinary. AVOID.

Visited in February 2024 and immediately re-booked. It was awesome! However, visit 2 was so different. There was no attention to detail by most staff, too many issues to go into here. It was not a five star hotel but had five star cost. So disaappointed. Will think long and hard about going again, such a shame.

Stayed two nights for a birthday celebration as two couples. From the moment we parked our car, we were looked after like royalty - the staff were universally charming and couldn't do enough to help make our stay perfect. The food was excellent but the real draw is the location and the period detail. It really is like going back in time to a more elegant era.

What a lovely, special experience. Everybody was so friendly - both other guests and staff made it seem like a big family Christmas without any of the associated stress!!

Burgh Island
Burgh Island was fabulous.
The one complaint was re the dress code. We had called in advance to find out what we should wear and was told no jeans and trainers.
During our stay other guests were wearing jeans and trainers both in the Nettlefold restaurant during dinner and breakfast.
This was a special trip for us so we were disappointed to find there appeared to be a disregard for the dress code.
We had stressed over what was appropriate for us to wear so seeing others in jeans and trainers was not good.
We really enjoyed our meal in the Nettlefold restaurant and would have dined in there on the other two evenings but it only serves fish so limits choice.
We ate in the Pilchard Inn where the food and service was excellent.
We did have a great stay.
Many thanks to the staff and especially Mr James for making our overall experience fantastic.

We had a 2 night stay in December and only regret is that we didn’t book for longer. This is not a hotel stay but an experience where you are treated like superstars. We received the warmest welcome, champagne on arrival, a free room upgrade and fantastic service for the entire stay. We ate in both restaurants and drank in the pub and could not fault anything. We will be back in the future, thank you to all the staff for making my Christmas gift amazing.

A fabulous experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Burgh Island. We received a warm welcome, the service was great and the room was brilliant. We would definitely love to visit again!
