We recently stayed at as a last minute booking to visit the Chester Zoo Lanterns (05/12/24). Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and given the key to our room. Our 8 month old daughter was for some reason not down on the booking, so we requested a cot and the woman behind the desk was more than happy to oblige. Come the next day when checking out, we were sarcastically asked how the cot for our baby was, seeming to pointing the finger at us for the booking not going through correctly. I found this very unprofessional and the behaviour of the receptionist unneccesary. We had paid for the hotel in advance, hoping for a cheap and cheerful stay but the attitude shown towards us when leaving left us with a bitter taste in our mouths. The rooms were average, but we thought none of it and did not intend of mentioning the unhygienic standard due to the price we had paid. But due to the service we received when checking out we feel we have no option but to complain. The carpet in the family room had a strong smell of what I can only assume to be urine. As well as this, the cot given to us for our daughter to sleep in was beyond dirty. We felt that she couldn’t sleep in the cot in that condition and she ended up sleeping in our bed. I can only describe it without going into too much detail as dirty. I feel that this would have been kept to ourselves without the sarcastic and unprofessional service we received by your receptionist, and we will definitely not be staying again. I strongly suggest a customer service course would be beneficial. At the end of the day we are paying customers, and I feel I have no option but to bring this to your attention. I am devastated to have wasted my money on the service we received and will not be recommending anyone to stay here
