Amazingly comfortable and friendly hotel. Has the feeling of a high-end opulent hotel, without the faceless treatment you tend to receive from 4&5 star hotels. From the time we arrived we were pampered with welcome drinks, pasteis de nata and a warm welcome. The rooms were clean, spacious and had further treats awaiting us - brownies, port and chocolates! There was a bath as well as a shower, complementary smellies, bathrobes and slippers The breakfast was all you could ask for, and more, with food ranging from fresh fruit to bacon, sausages, pastries, pancakes, eggs and a lot more, all freshly prepared. The walls are all covered with interesting pieces of art, which also adds to the stay If you’re in Porto and want something just a bit different this is definitely the place to stay

Very nice rooms comfortable and with a lot of space. We stayed 4 nights and first 2 nights the hot air conditioned wasn't working, this was the only problem we had but with 13 degrees outside I can insure that when you wake up in the morning it’s not good at all. All personnel very smart and professional. One of them recommended a Top Fish restaurant. Breakfast was very good and they also offer a very good sparkling wine that early in the morning was a new experience :)

This was a disappointment/ the welcome exceded the reality. Vânia was engaging and welcomed genuinely welcomed us. We had experienced a taxi driver from hell who topped 140 km/h. That aside the room and some food at 2130 was all we needed. Ali the waiter managed to give us two courses! Nothing else seemed available. The vegetable soup was bland powder based stock and accompanied the hamburger! This five star hotel had already made its mark. We could have had 5 “courses” but this was not required. Nothing more was to be offered for “dinner” in Portugal at this hotel than a stock powder based bland soup and a very lacking hamburger. The coffee machine as located in 205 on the bench was next to the fridge. When I called on awaking as I could not get it to work I was told “move it to another power” source in the room. This proved my problem was mine! The fridge took the power source and was not compatible with the excellent coffee machine plug. But the coffee was excellent when I found an outlet. The laundry service was not accessible! The flier in the room instructed me to call “7 “which I did. Diverted to reception I was told to “bring our laundry to reception. I did so. Only to be told then by the receptionist who that there is no laundry service at the hotel. The weekend excluded laundry service.

We are a retired couple and travel often. Our experience here left a lot to be desired. The hotel is a cool older hotel with a cool 50s vibe and a convenient location. The staff were all hospitality students using the hotel as a learning environment. They were typically young and friendly, but lacked the experience needed to be working some areas by themselves. The rooms were quite nice and clean. Bathrooms were on the large side and had good water pressure with double sinks. We travel often and I found the the beds were unusually hard and the pillows were very tired. Breakfast was fine, but was served at the hotel next door requiring a walk through a garden area. This proved awkward when it was raining, but umbrellas were available. I don’t know how to say this politely, but coffee is incredibly important and coffee here was dispensed instantly from a machine and was awful. Lots of hotels we stay in have machines that work quite well, but the coffee and milk this machine dispensed were just terrible. The need to chuck this machine and get something that makes proper coffee!!! The breakfast area also served dinner, with a very limited menu. The night we were there they seemed to be short-staffed and the poor student was having trouble keeping up. The kitchen is in another building requiring long trips for the solitary server making it even harder for him to manage. There were several missteps service (including serving a table that came in after us the last available soup), again I think this was owing to his inexperience and trying to run the entire place on his own. There were other issues as we found our room key would unlock other rooms, sadly for us and the Asian couple I surprised when I got off on the wrong floor and opened their door by mistake! The bar wasn’t regularly staffed, and while they were happy to accommodate us, there were delays it required someone to come from the adjacent hotel to pour our drinks. I would not stay here again.

This hotel values style over substance. I paid a lot of money for a room with mold in the shower and filthy carpet. I asked staff to address this and instead they entered our room when we were gone and gave us two tiny brownies and made no attempt to clean. Dangerously slippy tiles in bathroom, and when you turn shower on the water blasts onto the floor. no maid service after being gone all day. Trendy cheap hardware on fixtures was difficult to control water pressure and temperature on all faucets. One bar tender covering two active bars in two different buildings. Air freshener in halls and lobby so strong (what are they trying to cover up?) that you get a headache and my clothes still smell like it. Beds uncomfortable and no blankets just layers of sheets. Not sure why on most websites this is classified as 5 star when there aren’t amenities and the service seems to be by free labor from young students. Pros: friendly staff but they don’t listen to requests. Great location. Safe.
