Not a great experience at Llangoed Hall…such a shame that such a beautiful historic building with such lovely big rooms and grounds is being run to the ground. We arrived early evening to a very dark entrance…no outside lights and very dark, dingy and cold entrance hall. It wasn’t clear where reception was and no one was about. After a while of ringing a bell a lady appeared who didn’t really give us any information. We had to ask where our room was, how we get a key, where was the bar and dining room, what time breakfast was etc. None of this information was in the room either and the phone in the room didn’t work. We wandered round with our bags looking for our room then went down to the bar. The bar, lounge and dining rooms were completely silent with no background music for atmosphere making things a little awkward. We then ordered drinks and had to walk back through the dark hotel to the dark lounge where there was a beautiful fire that wasn’t lit and it was cold! We arrived back at 22:30 and there were no lights on at all and everything had shut which was very strange on a Saturday evening! We sat in the room to make a tea given the bar was shut but there was no plug sockets to fit the plug to the kettle in without removing the tv and there was no milk. We went to bed and then unfortunately the fire alarm went off at 2am so all guests had to evacuate to the front of the property. There was not a staff member in site despite knocking on the adjacent lodge, therefore we called the fire brigade who attended and still couldnt find staff. After over an hour the alarm was reset however it went off again an hour later. Some guests were locked out of their rooms in panic and we had to hunt around the darkness for spare keys in the office. Breakfast was under welcoming. Not much left in the hot buffet style breakfast, blocks of brie, very sweet juice and for a 4* hotel no service. Very infrequently saw a member of staff the whole stay. Very worrying that we were completely deserted in the event of an emergency! Will not be going back! Could be so much better with more staff, better customer service and communication and better facilities in the rooms (information, plugs, phones, refreshments)

I struggle with this review as there is a lot to like, but there was a significant unforgivable issue during our stay. Our room was lovely. Spacious, huge warm bathroom with amazing shower, large bed and beautiful views (a stunning setting). The arrival experience was fine, although I had to return to reception as no milk was delivered as promised. The website says free homemade shortbread but there was no sign of that either. We had booked an evening meal and the choice of food was somewhat limited but what we did choose was very good. The staff seemed to lack some training befitting the ambience of the hotel but not a huge concern. Breakfast was self serve, and the hash browns were greasy and the sausages weren't great in my opinion. The tea was from an insulated jug so was over brewed, and the orange juice was an unusual taste too. Now the issue... The fire alarm went off at 2.15am (these things happen) and we had to evacuate but there were NO STAFF ON SITE! I tried the number on the website but no answer. One of the guests called the fire brigade that arrived in about 30mins and checked the hotel thoroughly and they couldn't contact anyone either. Eventually the all clear was given and we returned to our rooms at 03:15 am. The issue here is no staff, so no roll call or direction. I mentioned this to the manager the following morning and he said that he was in the lodge on the grounds but no alarm went off so he heard nothing, and was eventually contacted by the Fire Brigade and was on site at 03:30 (too late by then). He apologised but did not accept that another guest told us during the incident that someone had been over to the lodge and could here the alarm but nobody answered. It's a very good job there was no fire!! Final point - despite the evening meal food being very good the hotel has a Food Hygiene Rating of 1. Had we known that we would have eaten elsewhere. So - as I said - a mixed review.

I, today, had the pleasure of attending the Annual Powys High Sheriffs Conference Lunch at Llangoed Hall. Engaging in exceptionally enjoyable conversations with very knowledgeable people. The food was of a good quality, with attentive staff and friendly faces. I highly enjoyed my time here.

Where do we start… We had the perfect day at Llangoed Hall celebrating our September wedding. There’s not many things in life that give you butterflies in your tummy but every time we think about our wedding it does just that. It was perfect from start to finish and we wouldn’t have changed a thing! We were lucky enough to spend the night before our wedding here too, enjoying the build up with our family and friends and it allowed us to decorate everything ourselves and not have the stress of doing everything in the morning. We also all enjoyed an evening meal and then headed to the snooker room! Llangoed hall is beautiful both in the sunshine and rain (one of the main reasons we picked it as ‘You can’t rely on the Welsh weather!’), but we managed to have the sun which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds and have the most amazing photos. Inside is equally as beautiful and plenty big enough to accommodate everyone (90 in total). We had canapés and drinks outside where the younger ones could run around and enjoy themselves, and then inside for our delicious wedding breakfast (the food was amazing!). Then the party with the band Northern Ruins and the Mid Wales Roadshow in the evening. It was the perfect end to the day . We honestly couldn’t recommend Llangoed Hall enough. It really was the dream wedding venue. The rooms are all individually designed by Laura Ashley and all have such a homely feel. We will forever be grateful for being able to get married there I and can’t thank everyone at Llangoed enough. Abbie was brilliant and any question that we had , she would reply immediately to, which really did help make the planning so easy and stress free. Abbie you are made for this job! We can’t wait to come back for our anniversary next year and also for the Christmas market next month. Llangoed is just magical and will always have a special place in our hearts. It was a dream come true and felt like our home for the weekend with having exclusive use for the two days 🥰☺️. We will never be able to thank you all enough. Kate & Nick xxx

Fantastic place. The room was massive and beautiful. It had everything we needed. The bathroom had a bath and a shower. We had a great stay for 3 nights I could just sit and look out the windows for hours. Breakfast good. All in hot trays. Not a lot of staff around and no other options on tea or coffee if you wanted decaf.

Along with other recent reviews of Llangoed Hall, our visit left a fair bit to be desired.. but I must stress, this is NOT the fault of the staff. We only saw two people who worked there the whole time who did their best but you could tell the stress of the situation was getting to them...! Surely a hotel of this size and status should have 10-15 people at least to ensure everything is as it should be and as is promised on the website?? Interesting Hotels (the company that currently owns it) need to take a long hard look at itself as the overwhelming feeling is that a lovely building with an amazing history is being run into the ground... a pitiful shame. Just one example.. we went for stroll around the grounds before we left. On one of the benches were several glasses (a pint glass and a couple of wine glasses).. they were full with rain water so had been there for some considerable time. Probably left after a wedding reception as there were traces of rotting confetti around. Not a good look...

Stayed here for a close friends wedding. The building itself is stunning, but there were issues unfortunately with our stay. There was no one on reception so had to ring the bell and wait for a member of staff to arrive. Not very welcoming! No help offered with bags etc. The tie backs on the curtains in our room were torn and carpets on the top stairs in the house almost threadbare. At the wedding the food service was slow, but the actual food was delicious. Breakfast was all pre cooked self service buffet, nothing made to order which was disappointing for the cost of the stay.At the wedding, we were unable to put drinks onto our room bill, and we were told it was policy at all their weddings. Had to run up two flights of stairs to grab some money! All in all disappointing !

Pity that this “fine dining” establishment no longer holds the Food Standards Agency highest rating. The plaque which should be prominently displayed is hidden in a side passage despite Welsh legislation that requires it to be in a prominent position. We have been going to Llangoed on a regular basis for many years but standards have definitely slipped; the web site still shows the “old” team but they are no longer there [web site not updated]. Brian, who always kept impeccable standards & service has gone. No one met us on arrival & the whole place was short staffed. Our bathroom basin tap was not secured, shower doors were not attached & the power shower dribbled pathetically. Small touches like morning tea & wakeup call no longer. Shame as it used to be “home from home”.

We have just returned from our wedding at Llangoed Hall. Everything was perfect and I cannot express how amazing our whole experience was. Abbey & Jeremy truly are the best team! From start to finish we cannot have asked for a warmer welcome and more special day. Everything was beyond our wildest expectations. Truly the best team from start to finish! We’d once again like to thank Abbey for coordinating such a beautiful event. Your knowledge and guidance through the planning process and knowing that we had somebody so knowledgeable and passionate in our corner gave us so much peace of mind. Thank you once again for everything! Our special day would not have been the same without you! 💗
