On the plus side - a splendid location. The room was clean and comfortable with views past the opposite houses over the river valley. The bar and eating area were what was expected from an atmospheric old pub. Breakfast was fine with a reasonable choice. On the minus side - Food On arrival we were asked for our breakfast choices . We weren't offered the option of a change for the second morning, but were delivered that same choice as for our first morning The evening meal was lacking inspiration and seemed to have originated from a catering pack Arrival On booking there's a section asking what time you expected to arrive. I chose between 15:00 and 16:00 Arriving at 15:30 - the pub was locked and closed. Despite knocking loudly on the door, it wasn't answered. By then we were wondering if like so many others the pub had ceased business and wondered we would need to find alternative accommodation to spend the night I tied to phone, but the areas is remote and in a valley, so there's no mobile signal. We decided to drive out of the valley and after several miles managed to get a signal. No answer from the Inn, so left a message. My call wan't returned Tried phoning again at around 16:30 leaving another message. My call wasn't returned Returned to the Inn at 17:00 and again knocked on the door. Walking to the rear of the property I saw staff inside, but my very loud knocking was ignored. At 17:45 a gentleman arrived and asked if we were about to check in. I explained we'd been trying to check in from 15:30. I received a very brief, insincere and reluctant sounding apology, before being shown to the room Not a great welcome and a pretty poor start to two days in the area
