One star given for the room facilities only. That said the room was a bit on the small side to say it was a Premier PLUS room. Cost £130.00 For 1 night. + £22.00 breakfast for 2 people. The mattress quite firm for my liking as was the pillows too soft and foam filled making them "roll" about in the night. My biggest annoyance was the shower pressure, that low I had to stroke it over my torso to get it wet enough. And only one bath towel initially installed in the room for two people. Down to the rest of the hotel, reception staff were friendly and efficient. Reception and toilets were clean although how you`re expected to dry your hands with a cold air hand drier and no towels i don`t know. Walking into the bar mid afternoon I couldn`t help but notice litter on the floor, a receipt here, a napkin there, spilled crisps and food various places. The restaurant area did not look busy as there were many tables empty but not cleared of plates etc. We sat down and perused the menu, 15 mins later I eventually caught the eye of a young waitress to place our Festive order, 10 mins later she returned to say they had run out of Marie Rose Sauce for the prawn cocktail. (At Christmas??) She continued "we can give you some Mayo and some Tomato ketchup". "Do you have any Worcester sauce to add to it?" we asked. "No, but we have HP brown sauce" she replied delightfully. We opted for the mayo and ketchup version to be made and applied to the prawns. "Oh no! We cant make it for you for allergen reasons" she exclaimed. " You`ll have to make it yourselves". WHAT?? ........Oh dear. The mains arrived, I had chosen the Sirloin, a more megre steak I have never seen before, about 100mm square and 7-8mm thick, more diane than sir loin. Wife ordered turkey with all the trimmings, however the stuffing was missing as was the cranberry sauce. I also ordered a bottle of wine which after another 10mins had not arrived so I reminded the waitress, she delivered shortly after. Thank you. We finished with a desert (fake crumble with fruit below it). We left the restaurant a while later and noticed the litter and most of the uncleared tables were still there. Breakfast buffet: (I will keep this short), bacon undercooked almost rare. Sausages overcooked on one side, not cooked on the other. Scrambled eggs, wet and sloppy, didn`t look cooked at all. Fried eggs ok but all yolks broken as they were stacked on top of each other. Everything else was ok but all was either cold or tepid. Didn`t see anyone checking temperatures of anything, the hottest thing was the mushroom`s serving spoon handle. We was directed to an area of the restaurant which was occupied by a large family with several misbehaved children who thought it was fun to bounce and run along the bench seat squealing and shouting and parents who thought it was etiquette to watch and allow them to do it. Not that I don`t like children enjoying themselves, the fact that the parents didn`t give a t*ss about anyone else in a
