The owners have clearly put a lot of effort into creating a lovely hotel, and for deaf visitors it would be. The view from the balcony is superb, the room was spacious and comfortable and everything was pretty smart. However, the soundproofing was fairly dismal, so we could hear the couple in the room next to us talking and hear their child crying. - 1 star for inadequate soundproofing on what was a fairly expensive room. We were then subjected to very loud music with heavy bass from the wedding happening in the hotel - I hope the couple had a lovely time, but having shelled out for a room with a balcony in the quiet bit of the lake district I did find the lack of quiet a bit disappointing. - 1 star for the rather less than tranquil surroundings. On checking out, the receptionist asked us if everything had been ok, so I mentioned it was a shame the wedding music had been so loud, as it had made it hard to enjoy a quiet evening (for reference think Travelodge room above a nightclub). The receptionist told me that the music had been turned off at 11, so was in line with legal requirements, not sure why that was relevant, considering I had paid for a room in a nice looking hotel with a balcony in the quiet bit of the lakes. Her colleague shrugged at us, clearly indicating she thought we were the problem. - 1 star for rude staffing. In short, this hotel could be wonderful, but isn't.
While on a three week UK vacation I was booked here for three nights to celebrate my birthday and what a gift it was! Although undergoing a renovation, the manor was awesome! I was fortunate to have a room at the end of the hall, overlooking the courtyard, a field of sheep and a view of the sea! It was serene and peaceful. The entire staff, especially Barry, were so welcoming, attentive and friendly! I rarely rate 5 star and Hunday Manor deserves it.

We stayed here last night (Sunday 26th January 2025), we are mother and daughter and have been coming to Armathwaite Hall as a treat for a number of years. We love the spa which is the main reason we visit, and often stay overnight as well. It’s our favourite place to come! Unfortunately last night the hotel has experienced a power outage, not their fault, Fridays storm has caused issues in the local area and the hotel is running on a generator. We arrived earlier than planned and our room wasn’t quite ready so we enjoyed a cocktail in the bar area whilst we waited. The cocktails were lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. Once our room was ready we were checked into one of the beautiful garden suites, it really was lovely and we certainly weren’t disappointed with it. We donned our robes and went to the spa, unfortunately as we were signing in, the staff explained the situation and that the indoor and outdoor hot tubs were not working as normal due to running on the generator. Not the hotels fault, but we were gutted as sitting in the outdoor hot tub with a glass of Prosecco in the evening was what we were looking forward to most. The spa was very busy and there were no loungers left to relax on due to this. We were very disappointed as it’s why we had made our visit, however we made the most of the hush room and had a swim. We returned to our room and had no hot water, the hotel were aware of the issue and trying to resolve it. Not ideal but you could go back to the spa who had hot water in the showers if you wanted to. We relaxed in our lovely room for a while and had booked into the new grill for our evening meal. How pleased are we that we did. The food and staff in the grill were so good we commented to each other that, that experience alone had made up for our disappointment with the spa facilities and hot water issues. It wouldn’t be right not to mention how fantastic the staff were in here, all of them lovely and attentive, but not too much. There wasn’t one thing I could even slightly fault with the food or service and the hotel owners should be proud of their new restaurant and their team. Breakfast was lovely as always. We decided we would go for a swim before checking out and had treatments booked for 11am this morning. To our delight the hot tub was working again, so we managed to get some time to enjoy it after all. Treatments were lovely as always. On check out, we couldn’t fault the reception team, we felt sorry for them as we could only imagine they had to deal with a few disgruntled guests over the couple of issues from the previous evening. They were friendly and helpful and had knocked money off our bill due to the issues. How could we fault this, we felt it was more than fair. All in all, some of the facilities were not to their usual standard, however, due to the way everything was handled, we still had a wonderful stay and cannot fault them. They handled a difficult situation which was completely out of their c
We stayed for 2 nights but would have liked to have stopped longer. Room was nice but a bit squashed for space , bed comfortable, shower very good. Meals all good. Great place nearby at the train station. Also used the local spa facility, very smart but not everything was working properly when we were there. Staff were all very friendly , helpful and worked hard. Food was good especially the breakfast. Liked the bars in the hotel and the decor and atmosphere of the hotel.
The environment and facilities of the B&B itself are very good, and it is a very atmospheric accommodation. The biscuits in the room were delicious, and the meals provided by the B&B were also good, but not cost-effective (some dishes were a bit salty). The location is relatively remote, and I feel that people who stay here generally drive their own cars. We are a bit far away from Keswick and Derwentwater, and if the bus stops, we can only call to book a taxi. However, the overall accommodation experience is still very good!
On a 2 day break to the Lake District we stayed here on the Saturday night , was central to everywhere we wanted to visit , easily accessible just off the A66 . The evening meal & Breakfast were both 10/10 and the staff were all excellent , One lad sorry I didn’t get his name was extremely professional, I’d asked him about his Scottish accent but he was actually from Workington with Scottish Parents . Saying that all the staff were SO GOOD . Lovely clean quiet rooms

GGuest UserWow!! What an amazing hotel. We arrived in the middle of a power outage, to be met by polite friendly and professional staff, we were made aware of the situation and offered a seat by the fire with complimentary nibbles, we were kept up to date with the situation throughout until power was restored. Considering the disruption, the staff remained calm and all food was delivered promptly and was delicious. The rooms were very tastefully done, well equipped and spotless, beds were extremely comfy and the rooms were toasty warm on a night that got below freezing. Breakfast was really good and we were well looked after by all of the staff. We have to say it is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would 100% recommend The Melbreak to anyone. Well done everyone concerned
Fantastic hotel with great staff.Hotel rooms spotless and with everything you need.Food was amazing as well as the service and also well situated to visit Keswick.Personally I thought it was underpriced and would have paid more.Spoke to the manager and other staff who were super friendly and helpful.
Aautumn titaniumWe had a stopover here on the way from Scotland to Lake District, and we were impressed by the rustic and peaceful environment, as well as the charming vine-covered buildings. Our room was clean, and WiFi was good (considering that we were in the countryside). The breakfast, included in our room rate, was excellent, with generous servings. Try not to bring too much luggage when staying here, as there is no lift in the building and there are multiple doors along the corridors and stairs. The price here is very competitive, compared to hotels in the Lake District.
