"The location is good, not far from Takayama Station and the old town area. You can easily walk to important spots in the city, such as the Miyagawa morning market, convenience stores, and yakiniku restaurants. There is a parking lot for guests. The receptionists can speak English well. There is online check-in in advance, so the actual check-in at the hotel does not take long, although it can take a bit longer during busy periods. The room is quite spacious. Everything else is standard for a hotel. The hotel has a public hot spring bath with good quality water, but it was very busy during the time I went. The lobby downstairs has ice, a microwave, and a coin-operated water dispenser. The breakfast is varied and tasty."
"Rooms in Japan tend to be small, but at this price point, it's really great value for money and better than I expected. The hotel's location is excellent; you can basically walk to all the attractions without getting tired from exploring. Plus, there's a hot spring you can enjoy!"
"The location is incredibly convenient, just a 300-meter walk from both JR Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Terminal. What's amazing is that despite being so close, it's not noisy at all. It's an easy stroll even with luggage, which is a huge plus for travelers transferring.
The hotel is quite new, and the lobby boasts an artistic design, making it a great spot for photos. The rooms are equipped with a table and chairs, and feel much more spacious compared to hotels in Japan's larger cities.
It's also convenient to walk to the old town and popular sights for dining. If you head in the opposite direction, there's a large supermarket easily accessible via an underpass.
The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. They even helped me resolve some minor issues I encountered during my trip, which was incredibly thoughtful.
Check-in is from 3 PM, and you can store your luggage on the ground floor beforehand."
"Stayed there with as a family of 3. While I really wanted to like the ryokan due to the warm service and great feedback from friends, my own experience was a bit disappointing. We have stayed in many traditional ryokans prior to this and were familiar with the setup. We are appreciative with the warm service and sincere touches; like candies at check in, but the ryokan itself is really quite old and in need of a refresh.
Our room is tucked away in a corner and required us to go down a small flight of stairs to reach. I am not sure if the location meant that is a bit colder than the rest of the rooms but we really did feel cold and the heating was inadequate. The in built heater would also stop and beep in the middle of the night, which led 2 of us falling sick at the start of the trip. We requested for a additional small heater which helped a bit. Second night, our 9yo son also got many mysterious bites all over his leg. He claimed to have seen a bug crawl under the tatami mat but we were not certain and therefore did not feedback to the ryokan as we only had one more remaining night to go. We had only stayed 1 night in nagoya's marriott associa hotel prior to our ryokan visit, and his skin improved after we left Takayama, leading us to think that it might have been the stay there."
It is a HOTEL with very GOOD rooms, LOVELY and SEPARATED.
We booked 2 ROOMS and got a ROOM with a VIEW of the STREET and saw SNOW falling all the time.
If you compare the PRICE, you get a ROOM of this SIZE. It is very BIG, and you can put two LARGE SUITCASES in the middle.
I booked single bed room that the room quite big.
I am very IMPRESSED. There is an IRON, (a REAL IRON), and a HAIR CURLER. The TUB can be used for SOAKING.
The STAFF is NICE and LOVELY and can SPEAK ENGLISH.
The GROUND FLOOR of the HOTEL is a CAFE selling COFFEE and DELICIOUS CAKES."
"The hotel is right next to the JR and long-distance bus station. Breakfast was acceptable, but cleanliness was just okay – I found several hairs in the bathtub. The room came with a washer-dryer combo and a microwave. There's also a good Hida beef restaurant just a few meters away. However, this hotel isn't very friendly to guests staying for multiple nights or those who book far in advance. I found that booking early and staying longer actually made it more expensive, and I couldn't make any changes mid-stay, which was a very poor experience. Guests planning to stay here should definitely keep this in mind when booking."
"Location: Excellent, right across from the Nohi Bus Terminal, about a 5-minute walk! Very convenient.
Service: The hotel front desk service was excellent, with smiling and very professional staff.
Facilities: Brand new hotel with well-maintained and functional facilities. The high-floor views were great, and the rooftop hot spring was very comfortable.
Cleanliness: The hotel was very clean and tidy!
We were lucky; it snowed on our first day in Takayama. We woke up to a blanket of snow, and there was even a cute snowman built outside the hotel entrance.
It's about a 15-minute walk to Miyagawa Morning Market, where we enjoyed Hida beef rice balls and rich Takayama milk—very satisfying!
I highly recommend this onsen hotel! We booked early, so it was excellent value for money."
"This hotel is super convenient, just a three-minute walk from Takayama Station as shown on the map. The room was clean and well-maintained. Taking a dip in the upstairs hot spring bath at night was incredibly relaxing and helped wash away the day's fatigue. While it's a bit of a walk to the morning market and other attractions, the overall experience was good."
"Loved this hotel. Felt like a spa with rhe common hot bath. Different sake for sample and ice cream poles on demand. We were also ro arrange for our luggage to bs sent directly to Nagoya from their lobby - super convenient!"
"Just had an amazing time in this ryokan with a friend. The public bathroom in the open air - incredible, big, and also a lot of steam, along with the lighting of the lanterns, gives an incredible onsen-vibe! (But it was closed for cleaning at midnight, and not at one in the morning, as written in the brochure). There is also a sauna with a cold bath. After onsen, you can drink milk for free or eat ice cream from frozen juice. There is a separate paid lounge with unlimited beer, wine and whiskey. Private bathrooms are not bad, but not like public ones, plus they were constantly occupied by couples. The bath in the room itself is also not bad, but if you are tall, there may be problems with where to put your feet x) Dinner and breakfast were amazingly tasty. I especially liked the space on the street by the fire, where you can fry marshmallows or just sit after onsen to cool off with a strong drink) During the day we ride to Kamikochi, also a fantastic place)"

Outstanding
DDanae0712The hotel is very good~~ The room is very comfortable and the food is delicious~~~ Although the hotel is not big, it has both public and private hot springs. The public hot springs are also indoors and outdoors~~~ Private hot springs do not require reservations. You can go when there is no one. It is really enjoyable to soak in the hot springs when it snows🌨. It is about a five-minute walk from Hirayu Onsen Station
JJette MarieSo cozy and i was lucky to have the best roomies ever ☀️
🪲PROS
- has a shuttle bus and multiple times a day or a bus station close by
- inner part of the city is reachable within 20-25 mins of walking and the folk village is very close
- kind owner and cozy interior with a very homey feel
- kitchen and bathrooms were easily accessible and clean, shampoo and shower gel were included
- coin laundry and coin dryer were easy to use and cheap as well
❤️🩹CONS
- not really a con, but remember to bring a towel and toothbrush/toothpaste, if you forget it you can also get a towel at the Inn
- 25min on foot is not that far away from the inner city and it’s great that the folk village is so close (if you want to visit) - but i had my focus on different things during my visit, so next time i would book something closer to the inner part of the city and the travel bus station
🌱 all in all, i really enjoyed my stay
LLLJDDBOur room was spacious and presented with a private onsen of which we can use any time at our convenience. Because of that, hardly anyone uses the shared private onsen, though the view there is better than that in our rooms. Also, there was no elevator at the hotel, so we had to carry our luggages up and down the stairs, thankfully the hotel only has 2 levels, and the hotel staff were nice enough to help us carry our luggages up into our rooms.
Free parking is available, which is essential as the hotel is not situated nearby any public transport. But it is within 15 to 30 min drive to nearby attractions.
The hotel was quite strict on the meal times as dinner and breakfast are served at 6pm and 8am sharp respectively. We arrived the hotel late on our first night (around 7pm) and almost missed our dinner (and almost got our room cancelled). We were served hida beef in different cooking style at dinner for both nights of our stay, one steamed and one grilled. Both tasted delicious!
All the staff were very friendly and always wearing a grin on their faces. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
GGuest UserThe hotel is 15 minutes walk from the railway station bus stop, and the scenery along the way is beautiful. The hotel is run by several elderly people. It is already a 65-year-old hotel. Starting from the boss's grandfather, the house has a history of 125 years and is very Japanese. The ornaments in the house can be shot for an hour. There is a special doll, and I am fortunate to see the dolls of the boys' day. The old people are very enthusiastic, the breakfast is delicious, it is served by a Japanese grandmother. It is really like a grandmother in anime. It is very similar to talking and walking. The breakfast is very harmonious. I still remember the fish.
SStevenxinxinlaoshiThe location is fantastic, right next to the JR station and bus stop, making it super convenient to get to all the attractions. The lady who checked us in was so friendly, enthusiastic, and really sharp – she quickly understood what we needed and was very helpful. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious enough. The best part was having an induction cooktop and utensils! We bought beef from Maruaki butcher shop and cooked it right in our room. After a day of sightseeing, it was great to avoid crowded restaurants and long waits. We could even make our own breakfast in the mornings. It was so convenient and comfortable, absolutely perfect! Thank you very much.
BBread1The B&B in the temple has a super large room, separate guest bedroom and independent corridor. I booked a room with an independent bathroom, which is very comfortable. It was the heavy snow season, and there is no floor heating in Japan. It was cold to walk barefoot on the tatami in the public area. The next morning, I felt the chanting ceremony, followed the master to recite the Japanese version of the Heart Sutra, and listened to the master in fluent English to say what color is emptiness. The experience was full. The transportation is also convenient, and the train station is only a 6-7 minute walk away. There is no meal in the temple, but there is a self-service kitchen. We went to the supermarket to buy Hida beef and fried it ourselves, which was super value.
GGuest UserThe hotel is perfect if you are driving around the region. It has free parking. Location is not in the center, but just 8min away driving. They also have a shuttle that takes you there. Room is spacious (as for Japanese standards).
GGuest UserVery good, the room is clean, the indoor and outdoor hot springs are good, but we booked late so there was no breakfast or dinner. The children played in the snow and came back to take a bath, they were very happy. I strongly recommend staying a few more days!
DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
