"Our twin room was spacious and bright, and when we opened the curtains, we had a direct view of the lake. The hotel, after its renovation, is even more beautiful than when I visited in January 2020. It's especially delightful and relaxing to soak in the open-air hot spring on the 8th floor, gazing at the lake and the distant mountains – all my worries just melted away. Both breakfast and dinner were incredibly rich buffet spreads, and the sashimi was exceptionally fresh. If you want to enjoy both scenic lake views and hot springs in Toya, this hotel is definitely the top choice. After checking in, there was a power outage, leaving us in complete darkness and without heating... Fortunately, the hotel staff addressed the issue and properly resolved our concerns. What was particularly heartwarming, as a long-time Ctrip customer and loyal supporter, was that after reporting the incident, Ctrip didn't shirk responsibility or act indifferently; they handled everything perfectly. As I always say: it's always Ctrip!"
"I had really high expectations for the Noji-Kaze Hotel, especially considering the price tag of 4-5000 a night, with a 50 sqm suite going for over 6500. Plus, Ctrip listed it as one of Asia's top 100 onsen hotels, so I booked it without a second thought.
The hotel's public areas are indeed nice; the lobby is spacious, and the breakfast and dinner buffets offer a great variety of vegetables. The staff are generally competent, and basic English communication was possible. However, stepping into the room was a huge disappointment. The bedding and furniture must be at least 20 years old. Not only are they dated, but they're also poorly maintained, comparable to what you'd find in a 400-500 RMB hotel in China.
What's even more outrageous for an ”Asia's Top 100 Onsen Hotel” is that the bath on the 9th floor is only a few dozen square meters. The visibility was less than two meters due to dim lighting and heavy steam. Two-thirds of the area was completely obscured. I could only find a corner with slightly better lighting and soaked for 20 minutes before leaving. It's hard to imagine how dangerous it would be for elderly people or children to bathe there.
The room I stayed in on the second day was a 50 sqm suite. The furnishings were still old, and the layout felt impractical, a relic of an older era. The private bath for the second day's suite was on the second floor, also a mere 20 square meters. This is a far cry from what I'd expect from an ”Asia's Top 100 Onsen Hotel.”
It's also perplexing that such an expensive hotel doesn't even have a gym.
And despite mentions of airport shuttle service, I didn't see any available.
Overall, this hotel is not good value for money. Proceed with caution.
I also hope Ctrip's platform conducts more in-depth investigations."
"Lake facing. Nice and serene view. Rather old and dated. Needs a refurbishment. We had tatami mat room which takes a bit of getting used to for the tatami smell. Big room. But very small toilet. Could have made the toilet bigger and ditch the useless storage cupboard next to the door. Beds need to be upgraded. Old and mattress far too thin. Breakfast and dinner were so-so. Only plus points are lake facing and cleanliness is acceptable. Free carpark next to hotel."
"My brief, one-night stay at Kohan Tei left me with mixed feelings. Stepping into the hotel, it was immediately clear that the property is quite dated; honestly, everything just looks worn out. This dated feel detracted from the experience, leaving the stunning lake view as the only true highlight—and even that is conditional on good weather, making it a bit hit-or-miss.
The onsen was, unfortunately, a disappointment. The facility itself is small, and I found it inconvenient that they don't provide towels, requiring a trip back to the room. The biggest issue, however, was the outdoor bath: the water simply wasn't hot enough to truly relax in the cold winter air.
On the positive side, I could see why the buffet dining is a big draw. Both breakfast and dinner seem popular, especially since they offer the fun option to do your own mini grill or hotpot. My only critique here is that the breakfast time felt relatively short—it was a definite rush to finish before the cutoff.
Finally, the location is excellent for exploring. We enjoyed a lovely post-meal walk that stretches all the way to the ferry dock (about 3-4 km). It's a peaceful stroll with sculptures along the way, perfect for a photo or two. Overall, while the setting is beautiful, the hotel is truly due for a major renovation."
"The hotel was very clean, and the private hot spring bath was incredibly comfortable, especially being able to soak while gazing at the snowy mountains in the morning. The hotel also offered amenities like billiards and game consoles.
We arrived quite late, so we could only book breakfast for 7:30 AM. The breakfast spread was very generous, featuring items like salmon, chawanmushi, and salmon roe, but overall, I felt it was just average."
"The Windsor Hotel at Toya may boast its status as a premier 5-star luxury destination and its historic role as host of the 2008 G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, but our recent stay fell far short of expectations.
Despite the grandeur of the location and its breathtaking views, the service quality was surprisingly poor for a hotel of this caliber. English communication was inconsistent and below the standard expected at an international luxury property. Housekeeping was careless—leaving a used cleaning towel on the bed after daily room service, which is simply unacceptable.
When I drove to the main entrance to pick up my family, I was abruptly asked to leave immediately, even though only a few cars were present. This lack of hospitality was jarring. Additionally, being charged for extra bottled water—something even 3-star hotels offer complimentary—felt petty and out of touch with luxury norms.
The most troubling experience came during checkout. Two of our international credit cards failed to process, and although we successfully paid with a third, the staff’s attitude was unprofessional. We were met with a sour expression and the word “FINALLY” once the transaction went through—an unacceptable remark that left a lasting negative impression.
While the hotel’s setting is undeniably beautiful, the overall service and treatment we received did not reflect the standards of a true 5-star experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both staff training and guest relations."
"This charming historic resort boasts an excellent location, directly overlooking Lake Toya. A bus stop is conveniently located right outside the hotel, and guests can also book a hotel shuttle service to the JR station. The hotel offers complimentary public hot springs, and private onsen baths are available for reservation at around 150 RMB for a 50-minute session, which is perfect for couples and families. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and even caught the fireworks display in the evening. Overall, it was a fantastic stay."
"The moment I entered the room, I was really amazed. The surface of Lake Toya was so beautiful. The tranquil lake surface was rippling with breeze from time to time, forming deep and shallow shadows on the lake surface. Take the Dolan bus from Sapporo, there is a stop at the door of the hotel, Park-mae Station, and it is only a 12-minute walk from the next stop, Toya Onsen Station. From the intersection opposite the hotel, zigzag up the mountain to reach the Konpira crater. It takes about 50 minutes to walk one way. It is a two-way two-lane asphalt road with a wide pedestrian walkway. It is safe to walk up. And you can see Lake Toya from a high place. When you reach the top of the mountain, there is a panoramic observation deck of Lake Toya on one side and a crater of Konpira on the other side. It is not as spectacular as the crater of Changbai Mountain, but it is easy to reach and the view is clear. The only drawback of the hotel is that the food is a bit ordinary, maybe it is due to the lack of staff. But the location of the hotel is very close to the lake and the transportation is convenient."
"I really like this hostel. The environment is comfortable and clean, and I hope everyone will take good care of it. I felt very comfortable here. The common areas are spacious and bright, the facilities are well-equipped, the beds are clean and comfortable, and even the bathrooms are kept immaculate. The overall atmosphere is warm and cozy, perfect for relaxing alone or socializing with other travelers. You can also feel the meticulous attention to detail. For a solo traveler like me, it's both safe and convenient. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfortable and affordable accommodations."
"It's just 3 minutes walk from the bus station and 2 minutes walk to the sightseeing ferry pier. Shared bathroom and onsen, the outdoor hot spring was also free of charge. Room was
clean and tidy. I like the Japanese style futon. Perfect view of the lake and the pier. Easy access to restaurants.
Beside that, be mindful that before 10am you have to check out, we were just preparing to go down at that time, they knocked the door and barge inside start cleaning the room which shocked us."

GGuest UserThe interior has a warm wooden feel, making it a very warm and comfortable place to stay. The beds are comfortable and there are low beds so even small children don't have to worry about falling out. We did have a bit of trouble dealing with stink bugs, so if you're not good with bugs, be careful.
