First time at this hotel and ended up missing the turning and going down the A120. Added 30 minutes to my journey. However the hotel is very nice and the staff were friendly and the room was clean. Help yourself breakfast and you need to ask for eggs that are not scrambled.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pillows weren't the most comfortable but still had a good sleep

We stayed for just one night as we were having a school reunion nearby, so we didn't try the restaurant. We didn't have hreakfast either, so can't comment on it. The location is easy to find - just off the A12. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. Easy car parking. Exactly what we required.

This hotel is so lovely! So clean and comfortable! Me, my partner and our little boy stayed here for 2 nights this week! We stayed due to visiting Colchester zoo and other local attractions! The room was clean and comfortable! Bath and shower were both great! Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Staff were friendly. We had breakfast here both mornings, pretty standard but still nice. Only bacon, sausages, beans and eggs on the hot buffet. Cereals, fruit, yogurts and pastries too. So enough choice. We also had an evening meal here which was standard ‘pub’ type food. We would stay again if we were ever in the area. Thank you
Response from Property: Hi Carly, Thanks for you kind words. Really glad to hear you enjoyed your experience with us and should you come back to the area contact us directly for the best available rates

The hotel food is horrendous. If you guessed this was Pork Belly Bites.... Congratulations.... But for the 99% of us who can see the inedible food which is burnt, dry and may not even be pork..... Avoid the food at all cost. The staff looked shocked to serve me it and they avoided me because I think they were embarrassed.

They have multiple large signs outside their hotel advising food deals only for you to get seated, more hungry then to be told after you had chosen your food, the deal is no longer available at all. I also rang the company to make sure the deal was on and was assured it was. The staff did not care at all.

From the outside to the bar and restaurant it looks lovely but the room was a disappointment! The rooms are very gloomy! Our room was filthy! Cobwebs around the window, stains on the walls, dirty cups on tray, thick build up of dust around the edges of the carpet and skirting boards. The breakfast was awful, the staff! Not the most friendly! The little girl on the breakfast shift was awful, huffed and puffed at my husband when he went for breakfast within the allocated time to find there was nothing left and asked her if he could get some breakfast we had already paid for! My husband spoke to manager who agreed it wasn’t good enough but did nothing about it! Definitely will NOT be staying there again or any dragonfly hotel. Bury St Edmunds is the same just the receptionist are more rude!

Not for couples more for Business men or workman travelling through . Initial thoughts as we walked in were clean fresh and airy However we were disappointed by the body language of the receptionist who booked us in and her unconcern when she told us restaurant was closed .we advised her that we had booked this online for the Restaurant and evening meal due to my husbands ill health The room we stayed in was full of dust in skirting board especially under table below TV . Breakfast was again self service but lacking care and personal touch Overall the hotel feels cold and lacks character

Stayed for one night . Very helpful staff . I wish I had caught the name of the guy on reception at arrival as he was also working behind the bar and serving the food , really nice fella . Room was clean and bed very comfy . The eating area and foyer area were light and spacious and was a shame it was raining as the outside space would have been nice to sit in . The food was perfectly fine and reasonably priced. Will definitely come back .
Response from Property: Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Look forward to welcoming you back to the dragonfly in the future.

Quiet location. Nice clean room. House keeping lady very polite and engaging. Breakfast good. My only complaint would be breakfast tables not cleared but understanding as there’s only 1 member of staff to cover everything so well done to them for their hard work.
Response from Property: Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Look forward to welcoming you back to the dragonfly in the future. We take all comments on board in order to provide a better service each day

The Dragonfly Hotel Colchester, certainly looks the business; - inviting, modern, with adequate car parking, and is reasonably well located. We were however surprised to find that there was no lift for the upper floor, - unusual for a very new hotel, - so we had to carry our cases some distance, via a flight of stairs to get to our rooms. On first impressions, we thought the establishment was very much on par with a Premier Inn, ( barring a lift and adequate staff ), but sadly, . . . . that's where the comparison stops ! This is an awful place, I will never stay there again !! The key issue appears to surround an obvious severe shortage of people to run the place, On the day we arrived there were just two staff to run reception, the bar, the restaurant, and attend to all other matters, including general queries, and the attendance / rectification of problems. One of our door keys never worked at all during our 4-day stay, and one of our friends keys was changed 3-times, and still it did not work. We had a bedside light which did not work; - we complained about it 3 times, and only on the 3rd. day did the staff eventually provide an extension lead and a mobile lamp to overcome the problem; - the light was never fixed properly during our stay. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the breakfast; - everything about the facilities and the food was just awful. The tables were filthy and sticky, there were never enough plates ( either side, or main course ) for only a small number of guests staying there, and when plates did eventually get replaced by the one person doing everything, they were cold, and not presented in a proper catering dispenser. The quality / variety of the food was just not good enough; - far from the standard expected from a modern hotel. Breakfast consisted of just three cereals in dispensers, hardly any fresh fruit, and the single 6-slot Toast machine was well past its sell-by date. It produced either burnt bread, or "toast" which was scorched on one side, and uncooked the other; - completely unedible !. The thermostat was obviously broken, as were at least two of the heating elements. There were zero instructions on how to use the machine, and nobody available to ask for help. The "cooked" breakfast never varied from vats of Scrambled Egg ( which was invariably served somewhere between luke warm and cold, - not mixed properly, and it kept running out. A vat of bacon, which was on one day so crisp that it was difficult to eat, and on others it was seriously under-cooked. The only remaining two vats contained Sausages and Baked_Beans; - there was nothing else; - no mushrooms, black-pudding, potato waffles, or fried tomatoes, in fact none of the additional ingredients one would expect in a Full English Breakfast. The final straw was the Sunday night of 26th. May, where we waited patiently at the bar for a member of staff to finally turn up and take our order for evening meal. We were blan

Excellent hotel, made excellent by its staff. Good facilities and good food. The rooms are spacious and bright. Being so close to the main roads there is a bit of road noise but this is worth having as it’s better than other local hotels. Secure parking and always a smiley welcome
