Hotels in World Trade Centre, Colombo

One of the more affordable hotels, but for me a very good one in a great location. The staff was very friendly—truly exceptionally nice. The rooms were clean and cozy, and the breakfast was very good. There was nothing to complain about, and I would definitely come back. Especially worth mentioning are the manager, who personally takes care of guests and explains the important things in the room, and the “breakfast chef,” who even opened breakfast earlier than scheduled while I was waiting. Thank you—I really felt well taken care of as a guest.

Let me start with a few downsides: for a five-star hotel, there was no liquid hand soap, only bar soap. The toiletries were also very basic, small plastic bottles. We had to specifically ask for bathrobes and the low-quality disposable toothbrushes. The soundproofing was terrible; every time someone knocked on the opposite door, I felt like they were knocking on ours. The good points are: we were given two bottles of cinnamon drink upon arrival, the pool is beautiful, and the gym is decent. Apparently, haircuts are free, though I didn't try it, and there's a sauna too. We paid an average of over 600, and the taxes were quite high, so the value for money wasn't great in comparison. Oh, and the service was quite slow; we had to wait 10-20 minutes even for toothbrushes.

This hotel, from its name to its decor, is very colonial. I booked it directly on Ctrip, and the price was great, but the cleanliness was worrying – the bathroom was full of cockroach nymphs 🪳. The TV was so ancient that I hadn't heard that loud, explosive shutdown sound in ages, it cracked me up 😂. The South Asian guy at the front desk was handsome and attentive; he even asked to take a photo with me. The original site was a Dutch governor's residence, later converted into a British barracks in 1837. On November 5, 1875, it was redeveloped into the Grand Oriental Hotel. No wonder there are old government offices nearby, and the hotel is adorned with banners celebrating its 150th anniversary.

I stayed three nights at Fairway Colombo and the hotel delivered a modern, efficient experience. The highlight is the use of robot technology for deliveries, which adds convenience and consistency to the service. Check-in was smooth, and staff were courteous and well-organized throughout the stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with reliable Wi-Fi and all essential amenities. Housekeeping was punctual and unobtrusive. The hotel’s location near the Dutch Hospital area made it easy to access dining and attractions on foot. Overall, Fairway Colombo provides a smart, contemporary stay with good service and a unique tech-focused touch. A strong option for both business and leisure travelers looking for convenience and modern comfort.

I needed to blow dry my hair after washing it in the morning, but the hairdryer plug didn't fit the outlet. I reported it to the front desk, and they said they'd send an engineer. After a long wait, no one showed up. I happened to hear a cleaning staff member in the hallway, and they took a look and said they'd get an adapter. It's truly speechless; it's the first time I've encountered a hotel where I needed to use an adapter for their own hairdryer. Once the adapter arrived, the hairdryer still didn't work, so they had to replace it. Three hours later, the engineer finally showed up to 'assist'! The pool also requires crossing a road to get to, and the shower room cleanliness was just so-so. This really doesn't live up to the five-star brand and high price point.

Kingsbury hotel is in a prime location closer to the beach activities. Some rooms are with sea view. Shopping mall is nearby that offers variety of shops and services. Restaurants provide wide selection of food options with local and international cuisines. The rooms are carpeted which emits old odour. The room furniture needs modernising. We experienced issues with booking. They couldn’t find our booking and gave us a room in a lower floor and the furnitures were old with smelly carpet. On my complaint, we were upgraded to a suite room in a higher floor which was classy and the view was excellent. Don’t know I can afford to stay in a suite. The staffs were helpful. I didn’t have a chance to use all amenities but I noticed there were many options. I will stay again if I am given a room in a higher floor or if I can afford a suite room.

The young man at the front desk had a great attitude; he was very patient, answered all my questions, and helped me solve a problem – much appreciated! The room was spotless. The hotel's location is excellent, very convenient for visiting all the attractions.

The hotel facilities are great, but the atmosphere was a bit tense. Overall, the hotel itself is good; the rooms and service are all up to par. However, this experience felt a bit strange. We arrived in the middle of the night, and as soon as we entered the hotel, there were two layers of security checks: first, military personnel with sniffer dogs, and then the hotel's own security. Honestly, this kind of setup made me feel a bit tense and unable to relax. I was looking forward to the sea view when I woke up, but the weather wasn't great that day; neither the sky nor the sea were very blue. The advantage of the large floor-to-ceiling windows wasn't really utilized, which was a bit disappointing. After leaving the hotel, the street outside was full of tuk-tuks, emitting a strong diesel smell. It instantly pulled me from the vacation vibe back to reality. 😑

It was a very convenient place. there was a delicious restaurant supermarket within walking distance. Check-in time at this hotel is until 23:30, but it took a lot of time to arrange a car from the airport, so when I called the hotel, it was about 30 minutes late, the staff entered the hotel. he waited for me with his mouth. there was no refrigerator hair dryer in your room.
