We’ve just returned from a lovely family holiday at Santa Agueda. The stay was mostly very good, but a few niggles prevent a 5 star review. Firstly, the good bits: - fantastic breakfast that is definitely worth paying for. Lots of choice, frequently replenished, and didn’t ever feel too busy. - friendly reception staff and breakfast staff and shop staff. We needed extra pillows plus dealing with a couple of broken things in the villa (wobbly door handle and broken fridge shelf) and they quick to help. - really quiet for sleeping - spacious two bed villa, lovely views, easy parking, plus really handy washer and dryer - the outdoor areas were well kept and pretty, and quite shady on a warm day - easy walk to Arguineguin for the beach and shops (the on-site Spar is great but it’s only a 8 min walk to a big Hyper Dino supermarket with loads more choice). There is also a super bike rental shop in Arguineguin (Free Motion) as the on-site bike rental wasn’t open. - well equipped and spacious onsite gym, and never busy The niggly bits: - the outdoor lighting at night lit up the downstairs bedroom in the villa like it was the middle of the day - there are good curtains but the curtain rails are set about 6 inches from the wall so all the light comes in - no hooks anywhere or any airer for swim suits, towels, or clothes you didn’t want to put in the tumble dryer…we chanced our luck with hanging stuff off the balcony rails, which is a bit risky with the wind! - hit and miss with the cleaning…it’s lovely having the beds made and bins emptied each day, but a bit of floor cleaning and bathroom cleaning wouldn’t go amiss…our feet were filthy if we walked around barefoot inside - the beach club…we’re a really active family and literally just wanted to do a few lengths of actual swimming in the stunning pool…but despite not wanting a sun bed they still wanted to charge us at the weekend (and, sneakily, even though it’s not written down on the website, on ‘public holidays’ ie Christmas Day). The main pool on-site is perfectly lovely with loungers and no loud music so that was our back up, although it’s not big enough for a ‘proper’ swim. The main beach in town has a really good designated and huge swim area that is definitely worth a visit too. - cooking facilities - the hob, dishwasher, fridge etc were all super…but lacking some equipment you’d normally find in rental places, like colanders for draining pasta, or a large bowl for eg salad There is lots to do, especially if you have a car. We hiked near the very peak of the island (Pico de los Nieves) which is absolutely stunning, lots of road biking, sea swimming, golf in Maspalomas, a trip to Mogan (very cute!), and great food out at Taste Bistro near the main beach in Arguineguin and El Tucan for awesome ice cream.
