What follows is the email I sent the resort upon my return home. I never received a response. We are excited about the changes underway. I’m sure the new owners are looking forward to the future of the lodge. In light of the new ownership and our recent stay - we would like to offer some feedback. Knowing change is hard, especially for a lodge steeped in a rustic style and easy going manner. No one person could say with any degree of certainty what changes will be good and successful- and those that won’t. So, we will simply remark on the changes we did encounter. Our main feedback deals with the meals. Over the years the food moved between incredible and fair. Chefs come and go. At their base the meals were always coherent. Protein, green vegetables and some starch. The presentation may vary from an elevated expression to a simple, straightforward meat and vegetables. I this most recent visit the food we were served was fine- in fact, based on sheer quality - the dishes we were served were as good, or as close to as good, as we’ve had. On the first night- we were served scallops on cold cauliflower with potatoes. All white. The scallops were delicious, but that was it. Occasionally, the meal just didn’t make sense. On the last night (Sunday) we were served street tacos. The meal began with chips with guacamole and salsa, then a salad, then bread, and lastly street tacos - with ears of corn topped with an aioli. It felt very disjointed and/or incongruent. In all of our visits - I’ve never asked nor looked to see what I paid for a meal. However, at the conclusion of dinner I inquired as to what we were paying ($95); we were surprised. It”s just not what we’ve come to expect. The best dish we had was the smoked chicken and it was delicious. However- we were not served enough for the table. We only had six people - none took more than 2 pieces, yet I had to share with my wife (one thigh and one leg for both to share). When we were served beef on another night it was fine- but nothing like the chicken. On that night - it was the protein (beef), a salad (going from memory) and a potato salad - that looked unappetizing and only one person tried. Also, as dinner service goes- the removal of the happy hour and passed hors d’oeuvres was missed. Most nights - the returning guests made our way down to the bar and enjoyed a glass with new friends. Breakfast- the same choices every morning. No opportunity for fruit- or oatmeal- a muffin- just Turkish eggs, salmon eggs Benedict, and two eggs with bacon and garnish salad. That is not good enough. When we would talk with returning guests - we all agreed changes were needed. We also agreed that there will be successes and missteps. That is to be expected. The challenge will be to do so without losing what has made the lodge special and an important part of our travel. The staff was great. All seemed very hopeful that the lodge could get make a new future. With no delays it is about 12 hours

Tu Tu Tun has been a favorite getaway for over 40 years, spanning all four owners. We are thrilled that it continues to be a very special place under the new owners. The food was fantastic! New choices include a 3 or 5 course dinner, and now you can pick your time for dinner instead of a fixed time for everyone. They are expanding the dining room and now offer both communal seating and private tables. Chef Derek is very creative and is expanding the use of local products. The best part is that dinner is now served year-round. Yay! We also loved the piano player adding beautiful music to our dining experience. The new glass cabins are amazing. They are tastefully placed out of view from the main lodge on the adjacent property of a former RV park. Beautiful new landscaping has been added throughout. Vegetation has also been replaced so you can now see the river from the pool. All the staff was friendly and helpful. We can't wait until our next visit, hopefully in one of the glass cabins!

Every thing about lodge could be first class. We travelled from Seattle to experience all that was confirmed to us prior to arrival. Day one was excellent. Midday of day two gormet dinner cancelled and wine tasting cancelled. Both cancellations planned ahead of our arrival and not disclosed. Bar prices were not advertised but charged $25 plus 18% gratuity for simple martini. Most expensive for service not provided but expected. We will not return and could not recommend.

This was our second time visiting TuTuTun and it truly is one of my new favorite places to visit in PNW. The staff is so attentive and kind, the rooms are clean and spacious, and the beds and sheets are so comfortable. The sauna on the Rogue is a vision out of a dream, and the food is 5 star. You really can't ask for a better getaway, TTT is my new home away from home and I am counting the days until I am back again. Owners and staff should be so proud!!!

The facility and setting are gorgeous. The River House was beautiful, spacious and overall well equipped. The grounds were well groomed and the wild life entertaining. Unfortunately, there were some fundamental communication and lack of amenity issues that blunted our enthusiasm for the resort. Before arrival, we called to confirm if the River House had a washer & dryer. The operator told us she did not know. No offer to find out or call us back. We ultimately found a You Tube video from a person who recently stayed in the River House who showed all the amenities, including the washer/dryer. Upon arrival, we were also informed that the River House had spotty internet. My wife had a 7 am meeting and was told she should go to the main Lodge, despite booking a reportedly full service River House. Without internet, we were unable to watch any TV. Wednesday afternoon, we specifically asked to see Holly and reported the lack of Internet. The next day (and the last day of our stay),a new Starlink was finally installed. The last night, we were able to watch TV. We also noted that on-line, each bedroom had individual TVs. In reality, each room had remnants of hook ups. This was not a deal breaker, but was misrepresented in the on line description and would have been inconvenient if we had any TV service. More website inaccuracies led to confusion regarding what services and amenities were available at the resort. A few days before arrival, we contacted the front desk a second time to inquire about fishing. We were informed the lodge “does not have fishing.” A list of guides was e-mailed, but when called, the guides were reluctant to book a tour because of the poor fishing. Ironically we visited a local bakery the day after our arrival. A kind local fisherman overheard us asking the baker if he fished. The fisherman recommended we fish along the banks of the Rogue River near the lodge. He directed us to the Gold Beach Sporting Goods store, where the owner helped us rent a pole, procure lures, and obtain a license. Amazingly, this self motivated approach yielded 2 big salmon! Upon arrival, there was no written information regarding what amenities were available on site. We asked about the Spa and were told it was closed because “the person quit the day before.” We noticed people going into a building near our house. We inquired about it, learning it was the sauna. We needed to ask to learn how to schedule time in the sauna, again learning it was first come, first serve. At no time were any services suggested, offered or recommended. Dinner entrees were texted to only one of our party who was out fishing, and unable to communicate with the others. A little more effort could have communicated the entire menu (not just entrees) to everyone, since all our names were on the reservation. Additionally, more food options would be greatly appreciated. There are limited options for fine dining at Gold Beach. The resort has the opportunity to shine rather t

Great hospitality and even better food and service. I don’t think it could have possibly been a better weekend. My friends and I celebrated multiple birthdays and enjoyed every second of our stay. On another note, the food was absolutely phenomenal. Must try dishes and cocktails.

The moment we arrived to the beautiful Tu Tu Tun Lodge we felt we were a part of something very special. The scenery with the calming Rogue River as well as the beautiful landscape and garden provided a much needed reset of our mental and spiritual wellbeing! We were treated to excellent cuisine prepared by our new favorite Chef Derek and all of the staff made sure to help with our every need. The staff seemed like a close knit family which added to the pleasant vibe and made our stay that much more enjoyable. We were able to view all of the different options for staying from the new upscale cool mirrored private pods to the incredibly lush one bedroom units with fireplaces to the 3 and 4 bedroom houses which are incredibly furnished with every detail thought out. My husband's favorite spot was the modern mirrored front sauna that sits directly on the river and the view is one of a kind ( you can see out but no seeing in from the outside) over looking the Rogue River. We enjoyed using the new kayaks to explore the river which was super easy as well as the beautiful heated pool where we ordered delicious speciality drinks! Gold beach is a short 10-15 min drive and we hiked some gorgeous trails overlooking the beach and also had a private picnic set up by Chef Derek waiting for us once we hiked down to the beach. This lodge would be great for family getaways for holidays or family reunions as well as individual intimate couple time. We are already planning our return and looking forward to seeing our new friends!

I have been a guest at TuTuTun for 15 years or so. I take a suite and spend a week. This year I only stayed 5 nights. I had heard some reviews about the new owners and the changes they have made. It was very emotional for me to experience the end of what had been my favorite retreat every autumn. It was transformed from a treasured experience to something unrecognizable. So many services were eliminated, like the morning coffee service on a tray, cheerfully presented. Now, if you ask for a carafe of coffee you get a big carafe shoved in your hand. How about constant music ? It drowns out the music of the river, and my thoughts. Prices have soared and include an 18% service charge on absolutely everything! The prices at the bar are outrageous! In the past, lovely trays of assorted hors d’ouevres were offered, and refreshed when trays begin to empty. Not now. Same with breakfast fruit and juice. If it runs out, too bad for you! The decor is unimpressive, including simplistic paintings that replace the elegant floral displays of the past. The most impressive part of the experience is the staff! Starting with the housekeepers to the servers, and everyone else trying to make everything work, they are phenomenal. While I have more to say, let’s just wind it up with the information I have provided. I’m heartbroken.
