After seeing the house on the internet pre-covid, I was so excited to go and spend a night here on a mini break in Northern Ireland once covid was over.. I must say I was really disappointed in my stay at Tyrella. The house is not as one would imagine such a place and Certainly not what I had seen in the wonderful "hidden Ireland " book; with peeling wallpaper from the ceiling in the drawing room and a thick layer of dust covering nearly every surface and quite a stained carpet on the stairs.. A very luke warm greeting by the host who then lead me to my room was the first red flag. I had called and confirmed 3 times that I wanted a specific room ( the larger Grey room on the website) and was told on each occasion that that would be no issue . I was shown to a different, room and when asked, the host merely shrugged, and frankly couldn't seem to care less, even when I told him that he had confirmed the room i had initially wanted was available for my stay. The room itself was quite disappointing, and I must stress, i am not comparing this BandB to a hotel here as I know they are different.. BUT when there is a few cms of dust and grime on the headboard and side tables aswell as on the ground under the dressing table it really isn't good enough for nearly 100€/night. In room tea and coffee facilities were laughable, the kettle was encrusted with limescale and i wouldn't dream of using it. Chipped cup and a dirty spoon. The bed itself was ok ,nothing special and certainly not anything to rave about. The two pillows provided were quite thin. The shower took 4 mins to heat up and to my horror I found several clumps of someone's hair ( not mine!) stuck to the wall of the shower. I Left to go out to dinner and was informed that there were no keys for any of the rooms and I should just leave all my things there. again, I am not comparing it to a hotel, but a key to a room is pretty standard in any accommodation. The next morning I tried to have a bath before the rest of the house was awake, so as i would have the best chance of having a hot bath. I filled the tub using only the hot tap and it still was tepid at best. not to mention the thick layer of grime around the taps and drain in the bath, I washed it myself before using it. I am horrified at what i was served for breakfast. Hospital food would be better. 2 burnt eggs, cheap sausages and bacon. yesterday's brown bread. Tea from a dirty tea pot spout and chipped glass and water jug. The dining room was quite dingy and dirty in general with a threadbare carpet and curtains and not particularly inviting. The worst part was at checkout, where I wasn't able to pay by card but had to complete a bank transfer then and there. The host didn't even ask how my stay was,etc and didn't even say thank you after I had paid. I felt as though I had just intruded upon them for the past 2 days and still had to pay 100€ ! Overall, the whole experience was poor and amateurish and it was daylight robbery t
