I had the best meal I've had for a long time. So much good food to choose from, but I settled on the Soup of the Day followed by the infamous "Glenny Welly", Aberdeen Angus fillet steak wrapped in mushroom duxelle & puff pastry braised savoy cabbage, asparagus tips, madeira jus, and dauphinoise potatoes & mixed vegetables on the side. Superb. The Incredible Whisky Bar is also worth a visit!

As hungry travellers, and despite having made no prior booking, we were welcomed most warmly by owner Ritu Datt and her staff when we dropped by in search of a late evening meal. The recently refurbished hotel and its garden surrounds were beautiful; all food is freshly cooked from scratch, locally sourced and our choice of Lamb did the place credit - succulent, tender, flavoursome, and good value for money (£62 for the two of us including a crisp Chardonnay for my companion). Upon ordering, we were told how many minutes the meal would take to prepare, the kitchen and servers obviously working in harmony. With swimming pool, sauna and the most amazing whiskey bar I have ever seen, this is definitely on my bucket list for a sleepover.

A group of eleven of us had a nights visit to Glenesk Country hotel as part of a golf trip. The hotel has been refurbished very tastefully. It feels like home from home. We hired a beautiful private dining for our evening meal. The food was delicious, ambiance perfect and the service was excellent. Everyone really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Just returned from a 2 night stay. We were attending a wedding nearby. The hotel provided the dinner the eve of the wedding. The food was absolutely delicious. Grilled salmon trout in a lobster bisque, Scottish new potatoes. All local. Excellent quality. This quality was mirrored in the delicious breakfast. The vegetarian haggis was gluten free and had so much flavour. The staff are welcoming and did everything with a smile. The owner made sure the wedding party had everything they needed to help the weekend go well. The bar is spectacular with a huge selection of whiskeys. There is an indoor pool and steam room. Billiard and games room. Also croquet available on the lawn. Great views of the golf course. We had a family room with 2 bathrooms one of which had a lovely deep bath. There are local shops with local produce. Great local walks by the river. All in all a great place to stay and experience a he local area.

We were unhappy with this hotel due to a combination of factors. The claim of four stars is ambitious to say the least. We were on the second floor and there is no elevator. The upper floors smell musty. There is no servicing of the rooms unless requested. There is a notice on the bathroom mirror advising against using the bath and recommending showers except they do not work very well either. My wife found a bed bug. The admirable whisky bar is eye wateringly expensive. Apart from that the food is reasonable - tinned fruit with the continental breakfast and the staff are very nice and helpful. The owner assured us the hotel is under some refurbishment but this and the lack of a satisfactory shower was not mentioned. It is hotels like this that gives small privately owned hotels a bad name.

A very relaxing experience in a comfortable hotel, well placed to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside. The friendliness of the staff and the luxury of the rooms makes this a superb destination. We were there when the weather in May when the weather was glorious and therefore were happy to enjoy their garden seating watching the golfers across the fence.

Long term stay at the best hotel in the north east. Unbelievable food, authentic old country house ambience, and the most unbelievable bar. The setting is great with the village countryside setting with golf course and rolling hills. The menu does not have a disappointing option with the lamb, soufflé and wellington among the best meals I’ve ever had. Would recommend this hotel to locals and visitors alike. Massive thanks to Gemma for the best hospitality, Jen for managing my stays perfectly and the wider staff for a an all round great stay, when compared to others in the local area and Montrose there is no comparison to be made.
