I chose Sleep Inn at Liberty Place because I had an early morning meeting in Evergreen and I wanted to avoid leaving Tuscaloosa at 5am to get there on time. I got the proximity I was looking for, but not much else. The doors to the hotel do not open automatically, which is inconvenient given that the luggage carts are unwieldy and I am walking with a cane. I don't know how someone in a wheelchair would actually get into the hotel if they came in after hours.
The front desk clerks were very pleasant and efficient at check-in and check-out.
The lobby furniture is discolored and worn. The signs in the elevator have clearly been there a long time, since they are peeling off the wall a little.
Light fixtures and other decor items in my room were tarnished/rusted. One of the electrical outlets in the room doesn't work. The fan blew continuously, even after I turned the temperature up. However, increasing the temperature of the blowing air meant that the room felt damp. I did not feel comfortable removing my shoes in the room, and skipped my exercise routine Thursday morning (I am recovering from knee surgery), as lying on the floor seemed inadvisable.
The surface of the main furniture console was spotted and looked and felt dirty. The desk chair was dirty underneath and did not adjust for height, so the work space was not comfortable for me. The door handle on one of the main console cabinets was broken. One of the drawers continuously slid open on its own. The frame of the bathroom mirror was damaged. The toilet lid and seat were raised when I arrived, and there was a ring in the toilet.
The bed linens were fresh and clean, as were the towels.
The accent color on the wall and the photo montage over the bed were very pleasant.
The faux leather cover for the box springs was dirty and worn.
Overall, I don't feel I got value for the $117/night charged. I am returning to the area in two weeks for several days, and I have already made other accommodation arrangements.
