We stayed at this beautiful hotel for two nights and loved it. It's an oasis in the middle of town. The whole place is very stylish, beautifully decorated and so welcoming. We had a ”comfy room” which had a unique layout but it was certainly big enough for the two of us; it was bright, airy and super clean with lots of thoughtful touches. It also had a great shower and such a comfy bed! Breakfast was delicious with a good choice and everything both looked and tasted amazing. Service was excellent; all the staff in the hotel were very friendly and attentive though. We had drinks in the bar one evening, it has a good cocktail and drinks list and is a lovely area to sit and relax after a busy day! We had a great stay, would love to come back and wholeheartedly recommend it.
The neighbourhood of adaptation, inspiration and contemplation Perched on the River Exe, the historic centre of Exeter was once described as the Jewel of the West. In the heart of the city centre, Hotel Indigo Exeter has been lovingly restored and converted from its department store origins. This hotel was once the home of Colson’s, a department store opened in 1792 by local milliner Mrs. Colson, who became one of the cities most loved characters. From Colsons to Dingles, to House of Fraser, and now Hotel Indigo Exeter. Staying true to its roots the hotel takes its design inspiration from the building’s department store past and other notable neighbourhood sites as each of the 104 rooms are styled to honour elements of the city. With luxury amenities like Egyptian cotton linens, spa-inspired bathrooms, and 40-inch flatscreen TVs, this is the perfect place to explore the sights and sounds of the city.

Wonderful location. Brilliant interior design, together with the spa we added, it was one of the best stays I had in England! Will definitely come back and opt for another indigo elsewhere!

I was very impressed by this hotel. It has a good location if you travel by car or rail. Even though it overlooks a major road intersection there was no noise in the bedroom. The bed room was quite large and the air conditioning was very effective and quiet. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. It was very clean throughout. The dining area is quite small and there were warnings of some delays in getting a table. I didn’t have any problem when I staid the night after August Bank Holiday.
Few hotels can boast such a breathtaking setting as the Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel, with breathtaking views and plenty of nearby attractions. The elegant Victorian building is situated directly facing Exeter Central train station and Rougemont Gardens, while it still maintains many of its original features. Its beautiful surroundings makes it one of the most popular wedding venues in Exeter, while the stylish and spacious bedrooms make your stay an unforgettable one.

Being used to the likes of other budget hotel chains when on business trips I was looking forward to my stay however feel let down given the prestigious reputation of the Mercure brand. The hotel building itself is beautiful and the room was modern in decor, however unfortunately the building fabric had not been modernised leading to an uncomfortable night. The room was very warm with a single window that only opened slightly and no air conditioning/fan provided. Even on a cold September night the room was uncomfortably warm into the early hours. My room was positioned opposite what seemed to be the kitchen/some sort of generator/heater which kicked in at 6am in the morning waking me up as the window had to remain open to keep the room cool. The range of breakfast was good (cooked breakfast, pastries, cereals, continental), but sadly the quality was quite poor. Despite being the first person at 8am on a Sunday the food was cold overall and the sausages and bacon were very tough and leathery. The staff on every interaction were helpful and polite, especially the receptionist when checking in. Overall a disappointing stay and sadly not the first poor experience at an Accor hotel.

I can't not rave about this place enough! I've become a frequent stayer here since January because of this. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and are very much willing to accommodate you, as a guest. There have been times where I have had to arrive early and they have more than willing to reserve my luggage and place it in my room before checking in, which is a huge weight lifted. The rooms are very clean and extremely organised - I haven't felt so comfortable there. I have stayed in other hotels (that are very known, due to company reputation and honestly aren't worth the price) in Exeter and this place is always the top contender. The free specialty hot drinks is always a plus, when you need a quick fix and it is easily accessible. As a woman who does travel solo here, this place is extremely safe and easy to access especially if you want to do something in town, uni or access other areas via train, as it is approximately 5 mins to Exeter Central and 10 mins to Exeter St David's. Please do give this place a try, you seriously won't be disappointed - this is absolutely my go-to recommend for anyone who wants to come to Exeter and will be coming here in future!

Arriving late in the evening, you could be easily mistaken in thinking it’s more like a motel or truck stop. However, this is definitely not so. In the morning you’re greeted warmly by friendly staff like Raj and Grant who simply can’t do enough. Breakfast is full English, toast, porridge, fresh fruit salad. Plenty of tea and coffee. We didn’t always need cleaners in our room, but when we did, not only did they tidy our bed but took the time to fold our personal clothing on the bed so it looked cared for - just like a touch of home! The room was clean and spotless. It’s a great hotel with a vibrant mix of staff. We didn’t use the hotel for evening meals but it seems to be very popular as it is for conferences and weddings. We’d definitely come back again.

Excellent
GGuest UserGood room, with lots of character and a handy en-suite . Amazing central location, pub staff were v friendly. V v old building so lovely low steep stairs up to the room, low doorway, and gorgeously slightly uneven floor. Room did however need more attention on the cleaning, the tiles in the shower had orange/ brown mildew on them, the shower hose had a section that was thick black with gunk… and everywhere was a bit dusty. Sorry to be so explicit but hopefully it’s an easy fix. Excellent tea and coffee provision. Tips to others if booking - the highest up rooms are the quietest, it was a busy Saturday night and we didn’t hear much of it at all. I imagine some rooms will have been noisier.
GGuest UserWe used this hotel as our base to tour South Devon. The hotel was above and beyond our expectations. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was large and well stocked. The hotel staff were exceptional, shout out for Alfie who was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is amazing! Great choice of individually packaged cereals, fresh fruit, danish pastries, and a choice of hot breakfasts including dishes such as poached eggs with smoked salmon. All topped of by a great choice of clipper teas or coffee. Can totally recommend this little gem of a hotel.
CchenkeValue for money indeed. Never expect such a spacious and well-refurbished room at such an amazing price. Would recommend it to anyone who visit Exeter since it’s located exactly at the city centre and within 10 or 15 minutes walk from both railway stations.
GGuest UserThere are many such lovely family hotels in Exeter. They are very cozy ~ very close to the main campus and not far from the city center. It is a good choice to stay here for family visits! The family room for 3 people is very recommended. Besides the master bedroom with a large bed, there is also a small room with single beds.
