Bannockland Inn

What a wonderful place. I can’t believe people with so much artwork, top of the line cookware, AGA stove, great quality beds and linens are willing to share all of this with strangers. The kitchen is fully stocked so it’s easy to cook yourself a delicious breakfast. You also can use their outdoor BBQ. It was the home of a senator Nick Sibbeston and his wife Karen. It is now run by their son Murray. The inn has 12-14 rooms on two floors (basement and first). The family seems to live on the second floor or occupy the houseboat that sits on the river during mild weather. All guests can share the patio looking over the Liard and Mackenzie Rivers (where they meet), the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room. There is also a small conference room. I had room 9 the first time and it had its own full size fridge. Being downstairs it was cool and dark (great in the summer months), being below the conference room which wasn’t in use at the time, very quiet. The second time I had room 8, also downstairs. It didn’t have a fridge and was located below other rooms and I could hear toilets flushing, people talking and walking until late at night (people not mindful enough to follow the 10pm noise curfew), making it more difficult to sleep. The linens the second time smelled so strong of scented soap that I had difficulty breathing. I mentioned to the owner that they should probably offer unscented bedding for people with asthma or other breathing problems. I spoke at length with Karen and loved hearing her stories of meeting Nick, their travels, their love of the place and nature. Unlike what another reviewer said, each room had a key. By far the best place I stayed at while in the Yukon or NWT for one month! I felt very privileged to be there, the owners were so giving and caring. Would definitely come back if in the area again.
