Best Western Hotel Porto Antico

One cannot ask for a better location in Old Town than where this Best Western is! It's very close to the Port, shops, and restaurants - all within the winding old streets of the old town. The room itself was fine - a basic hotel room with all the normal touches. One thing to note - we left our room right at check out (11am) and as we were standing by the elevator, two housekeeping women walked right into our room - as if to make sure we were gone. We've stayed in hundreds of hotels throughout the years and never saw this before. It obviously wasn't personal but I do suggest one leaves promptly or you'll get walked in on...

Porto Antico
The outside of the building is a ”fine example” of 1980's architecture, i.e. grim! Our room was on the first floor, level with some ”feature” triangles in the roof, which served no purpose at all other than to spoil the view of the harbour! Upon entering reception the feel is very opulent. The reception staff were not particularly welcoming...but we were checking in around 10pm (that being the time our flight had landed). We were rather hoping for some food, but the kirchen closed at 10pm, so all we were offered was a ”Cheese Toastie” (which, although very welcoming, did rather strike me that the Hotel was not ”in tune” with flight times and the potential for guests to be checking in and not wanting to have to find a restaurant outside the hotel at that time of the night! The room was large, but had the air of a Hotel Room which had seen nearly 40 years of good servbice, wtihout a great deal of care and attention taken to its upkeep. For example, the built-in wardrobe/cupboard door did not open properly, there was a large scratch on the ”feature” wood panelling around the room and the tile grouting in the shower was black with mould in places. BUT...on the plus side, the air-conditioning worked...and was not too noisey, the room was big enough for the two of us. The bed was large (albeit a big ”squishy” for my liking and there was a kettle/coffee pod machine so we could make our own drinks. We were there for 5 nights, so it is important - in my book - that if you're payng those kind of prices that the room is perfect...It wasn't really perfect. Similarly, because of its location right next door to the Aquarium, there were a large number of small children there, obviously from rich families who were not massively adept at controlling them. We never ate uin the restaurant in the evening, but did take our drinks onto the terrace one evening, where lots of diners had booked a table outside. A famly with three children under 5 then arrived and they continued to scream, run about the place and generally make a relaxzing space very VERY stressful. We took our drinks inside and I happened to comment in my best(?) Italian that the children were beng too noisey...some minutes later the family came inside...and I thought we were going to ahve to move again, but they went out of the hotel altogether! Unfortunately, we were not able to move so quickly the next morning at breakfast, where there was the same family creating havoc in the breakfast area! Next time we will ahve to fnd a hotel which is ”Adults Only”...Being a father of two (now grown-up) children, we were constantly on alert so that our kids didn'6t cause disruption to anyone else around us...That - however - doesn't seem to be the ”European way”! Location-wise was amazing, right on the harbour quaryside. The double-glazing did an amazing job of blanking out the ”city noise” from the elevated road and the late-night revellers in the myriad of cafes and bars on the old har

Brignole - XX Settembre
I was stranded in Genoa because of a flight cancellation and was transferred (together with 4 other passengers) by the airline to this hotel. It is located in the city, next to one of the main railway stations (Brignole station) which is very practical for in-city and other travel. First of all I would like to mention that the overall experience at this hotel was good. The interior was stylish and well-maintained, rooms were equipped with fridge, kettle (incl. complimentary tea & coffee), tv, aircon, hairdryer and and a spacious hot shower. The food in the restaurant for dinner was outstanding with its small but very fine selection of regional specialities. Breakfast was served buffet-style and offered hot and cold options and generally a wide selection of breads, spreads, cold cuts, cereals, eggs etc. The service at dinner was impeccable: Gian Luca was delightful to watch when interacting with other guests. His manner was professional, very friendly and highly motivated (being multilingual on top). His service attitude made up for what I experienced upon check-in: the 2 receptionists (a lady and a gentleman) did not even greet us, they were obviously stressed by following covid-regulations for check-in and were particularly rude and unhelpful towards the elderly couple and an old lady who did not have the green pass being Northern American but who had travelled through Italy before the cancelled flight. They did not check in one after the other but were meddling with credit card information, green pass requirements, and it took them for ever to check all 5 of us in. Working for an airline for 28 years and traveling for 6 months per year and staying in hotels I was shocked to see their unfriendly and unhelpful approach to travellers. Gladly, upon check-out there was a friendly gentleman at the reception who showed a smile and exceptionally kind.

A good place to host if you are waiting for a flight because it is very close to the international airport of Genova. The hotel is 1km away from the airport, so if you have baggage you will need some transport to the airport and the hotel does not have any transfer. They were very kind, we were going out before 6:00 a.m., they prepared a basket with cookies and yoghurt for us last night. For anyone who wants to walk through Genova I don't recommend because it's a little far away.

Great hotel and very accessible to all parts of the city. Good breakfast & the restaurant in the evening was pretty good. Comfy beds, pleasant room & very good service from the staff The only problem I had was that there was no bar, and I was directed to an Italian restaurant 30 yards away to get a beer, which I thought was pretty poor. I think some thought & planning is called for.

We stay at the hotel for seven nights. A renovated hotel of excellent quality located in Corvetto Square, very close to the central Ferrari Square, to the port, to 20 September St. and the historic center. Near the hotel transportation to every place and to the airport. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very beautiful. The hotel itself is very quiet. The breakfast is excellent and rich. The hotel staff at the reception and in the dining room are very kind, attentive and cordial. The price is cheap compared to the value and especially compared to other hotels in the area. ****rit Itzak
