It is a wonderful option to stay in Guangzhou. The rooms are spacious and clean. It is located a few meters from the pedestrian street and that gives it a privileged location to move around on foot. Breakfast is served from 7:00 am and there are good Chinese and Western menu options. Just note that it is no longer a hotel operated by Holliday inn but is now called Voco.

Given the high rating and reputation of this hotel, I was shocked by the conditions of the supposedly newly renovated rooms. I was staying at the standard room on the twelve floor , facing the historical buildings. We checked in after 10:30pm under the drizzles and chill - the outside temperature was around 10 degress. I noticed the holes of the linen of the blinds when they were rolled down, though it could still function. Yet, the light shield was worse. It was trapped on one side and could not be let down. The plus side was we were offered another room on the same floor immediately. Leo who helped to bring our luggage up was very polite and patient. He stayed outside our room when his colleague brought the new key of the new room and accompanied us to the new room to ensure everything was all right. He was worth 5 out of 5 for service. However, I would further explain why I only gave 4 out of 5 for service. Yet, the new room was smaller and for any other international hotels , from my experience, would offer an upgrade of the room. This hotel did not. Thats why I gave 4 out of 5 for service. The linen of the blinds in the new room was still far from 100%. I could still detect torn tissues , most probably because the blinds were dated. Thats why I gave a 3 out of 5 for facilities.

Fabulous historic hotel in the center of the beautiful YueXiu district. Rooms are huge, staff is efficient, speaks English, and very polite. Rooms have high ceilings, huge windows and very well decorated in a classic but super comfortable classical China style. Yuexiu Park metro station is 5 min walk, and next door is a Starbucks and McDonalds. Across the street is a new mall with lots of Chinese restaurants. It’s also about a 10 minute walk from Guangzhou’s famous clothing wholesale markets. Hotel lobby is huge and totally fabulous! Staying here makes you feel like you are living a life of luxury, but still at a reasonable price. One thing I would tell the staff to improve : showers need to be scrubbed better because any mold in the shower is unacceptable, even a little. This is a common problem in China, different standards than western cultures I guess. Otherwise, this is the place to stay. Standard Rooms here are a lot larger than at the China Hotel next door, and usually rooms rates for both properties are similar. Why not stay at Dong Fang and get a nicer room for the same price ?

You need to conquer a flight of stairs to the lobby. Normally not a problem, but challenging with multiple luggages. They do have a slope by the side but so steep that I find useless and no one from the hotel helps. The hotel also doesn't have non-smoking floors, in fact even the lifts stank of cigarette smoke. The first room they gave me had a strong cigarette smell and the front desk staff kindly arranged for me to see 2 other rooms and I had a room change to another room that was slightly better.  The room is very small, even for one. Imagine it to be cramped for two pax. There isn't even space for proper luggage placement. There was no wardrobe and no place to hang even if you brought your own hangers. The bathroom is tiny, with most of the space allocated to the standing shower area. The handle of the shower sliding door was wrapped in duct tape and it couldn't even close properly. Full basic amenities are provided though I didn't use them so can't comment on the quality. Bed is firm and higher than usual but acceptable. Location wise there are alot of food options nearby. Yongqing Fang is about 20 mins walk away in a straight distance.  Overall, I wouldn't stay here again.

I visited many homes, and the room area of ​​his home + 1.35-meter single bed + sofa + laundry room is what I value the most. Being able to do laundry when traveling with a baby, and having clean clothes to wear the next day feels like being at home. Besides, the weather is as humid as Guangzhou. For someone from the dry region of the Northwest, it would be a shame not to have a dryer after washing the clothes. 3. Room facilities can be controlled by intelligent voice. It's clean and has a small terrace. Relatively quiet. There are three elevators so you don't have to wait long. 4. The front desk service is good. The location is convenient and there are many shops and restaurants nearby. The lobby and room design looked modern. However cleaning could improve- there were stain ( still wet ) left on the coffee table in the room. The hallway and elevator looked a bit worn. I wish the lights in the room could be brighter. Breakfast had reasonable options and the taste were ok, but the coffee machine didn’t work. the floor in the breakfast room was very slippery- felt like it was oily. Definitely need some serious cleaning. Service was good from all the staff that we met.
