I agree with pretty much all the reviews here, but feel like some of the negatives are due to unrealistic expectations of small town rural SL. Overall my experience was excellent despite terrible weather - rainy and foggy. I came to stay 2 days but ended staying 3 as I knew weather would only be the same in Ella (my next stop). Rooms are a good size with very comfortable beds with clean linen and warm blankets (necessary when I was here). Lishan (the real owner, not Ali who found me at the station and claimed it was part of his family business) provided regular pots of tea while I chilled in the breakfast room and sitting room, read, and waited for the rain to stop and fog to clear. Views were excellent during clear moments. The bar next door (once part of the hotel) is a total trip "Wild East" saloon. Lots of things a bit grubby, slow, etc but par for the course. Memorable. Definitely worth a go.
