The Lucky Elephant

What a beautiful and amazing location and hotel. I loved that it was almost boutique style. We upgraded our room and boy was that the most beautiful and breathtaking view with the waves almost touching our toes we were on the doorstep of the beautiful sound of crashing waves. The staff were super attentive and it was an all round relaxed vibe. The service is immaculate, even though the breakfast can do with including a few more things for guests to choose from, it was by far the best location and the pool was just the most serene pool. It’s family friendly, they included us in the Xmas eve dinner and it was so special. The releasing of the turtles was such a thoughtful little activity to do with the guests. I did not want to leave this place, I loved our room so much, we stayed in room 208. To us it was the presidential suite, our safe haven to recoup from our busy schedules and lives. The area of Hikkaduwa has imprinted on our hearts and the lucky elephant feels like home. We booked the airport transfer and were picked up swiftly, on time and driven 2 hours to the airport, thank u for this service, we took the same service back to the airport on our departure and our driver was the most amazing driver, taking much care to get us safely to the airport, such amazing humans in this country. What a special place with special people who are the beating heart of the hotel. We love u lucky elephant, the staff, The location and Hikkaduwa. Thank u for taking caring of us and for making us feel at home, allowing us to unwind, and forget the world for a while, we cannot wait to come back and stay in room 208 again. Very good hotel, great service in awesome location My stay was good. Incredible beach; great temperature water, loved it. You could hear waves crashing all night. Great spot. Room was excellent, but the best was the service…. I had lost an expensive pair of sunglasses and was really upset I lost them and while eating breakfast one of the porters came and handed them to me. I couldn’t have been happier as I had 2 more weeks of travel and this guy saved the day. Loved it!

A relaxing, lovely place with wonderful staff and beautiful sunsets by the beach.

If you’re planning on staying in Hikkaduwa for a few days, this would be the ideal place. We stayed here for 3 nights as we are travelling around Sri Lanka. It is literally ON the beach, the rooms are spacious (with incredible AC), the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Do not expect anything fancy with the gym - it is literally a treadmill and a couple of machines under the building with rubbish AC in a tiny hot room. Overall, an ideal place to stay as Uber is very easy to use. Fantastic area to relax.

Unfortunately only stopped here for one night at the end of our tour of Sri Lanka. We were working our way back to the airport. Arrived unannounced and early. No problem welcome drink and a short sit on the beach whilst our room was prepared. Only waited 30 minutes but were then told we had been upgraded to the suite. What a fabulous room. Beach area fantastic. Decided to eat in as the staff had been so nice. Superb meal and service. Left early the next morning armed with a take away breakfast. Do not be put off by the average looking front of building - all of the hotels looked a bit like this, once inside and the beach facing area were all excellent.

i’ll start off by saying that the staff were mostly nice. housekeeping didnt know a word of english but thats alright. the worse thing was the manager, who was too pushy with being nice. it came off as breaking our boundaries. the staff often just stood behind you and watched as you ate. im not going to judge the overall cleanliness of the place cause youve got to expect worse stuff when you go to a place like sri lanka. the food was poor at best, the wifi was horrible but the overall location was nice. it was a very busy street though. dont go if youre scared of bugs.
