For the cost of the hotel, the experience is disappointing as a result of the bad service of the staff. The service of the front desk, concierge and bar staff (all located in the lobby) is very good but once you get out of the lobby everything changes, the staff is not attentive and the service is that of a 2-star hotel. At the pool I had to go out twice to ask for a couple of beers because the waitress I asked for them forgot to talk to other customers (half an hour waiting for a beer), at breakfast the waiters are literally more concerned with cleaning tables than by taking guests' order. The restaurant was almost empty and yet they leave guests waiting for a table and when you finally sit down you have to fight for the waiter to see you and once you do, he asks you to wait and starts collecting dishes from other tables. Outside my room we found the day of our check-in some dirty glasses and plates which were never removed during our entire stay, nobody supervises the cleanliness or the quality. The only thing that is worth it is the view from the pool and the beach, but for the price of the hotel we expected much more, there is a Westin nearby and it is surely a better option.

Very good suite, facing the sea, with spring flowers blooming. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the utensils. You can drive 10 minutes to Foodland to buy it and cook it yourself, just like at home.

GGuest UserA very nice place to stay once you swallow the price. The resort was very clean. People friendly and they are very flexible. Check out was at 10am but they accommodate holding luggage and provide a hospitality room for 30 minutes to clean up after that. They allowed us to use the resort facilities all day after check out. That was very special.

GGuest UserThis is our 9th time at the Waiohai, it is our favorite Marriott timeshare. The villas are comfortable and typical of Marriott's style - your view usually depends on if you're a Marriott owner but we found the staff very accommodating - they offered us a good view in a building with a longer walk which was well worth it as our view was lovely! The landscaping is beautiful and well maintained. The Honu bar offers a small menu but good food (I enjoyed my specialty drink but my husband and friend thought theirs were very light on the alcohol and not very good) - the servers are friendly and it's fun to eat there while you look at the ocean and maybe spot whales passing by. There are ample bbq grills if you want to grill, which a lot of people do. There are 3 pools -- a relaxation pool (not for kids) which is good for swimming laps (as you dodge the adults who stand there and talk for hours), the large pool which is busy but enough room to swim, and a very shallow pool by the beach (which is pretty much only usable to put your feet in). That said, the grounds provide ample room for your lounge chair, shade, sun, fantastic ocean view. The beach is a little small but you can walk onto the county beach where you will find sea turtles and monk seals and lots of people enjoying the good snorkeling. In the other direction you can walk towards the Sheraton and another long beach. We really enjoyed Courtney who taught the water aerobics class and also a specialty yoga/Tai Chi/Hula class -- Courtney teaches the Hawaiian culture and we really appreciated the opportunity to learn from her. We feel the Waiohai offers the best Marriott experience of the true Kauai and we look forward to returning next year!

GGuest UserThe location is awesome and very near the town centre. The food choices around the hotel are great. The hotel room we got (Level 1) faces the beach and it’s great, except that it is not the cleanest as we saw 1 lizard and at least 10 cockroaches. That may be due to the room being on Level 1. We did not bother changing room as we were there for a short while only and we had unpacked all of our items by the time we realize the presence of all the creepy crawlies. The amenities are good, with laundry, ice machine and microwave. The breakfast buffet is forgettable but the service staff are all nice.

PPono_SmittyThe location is superb. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops nearby. The pool area for the hotel rooms is gorgeous; the one for the villas is dismal at best. While we stayed at the villa area of the hotel, I can highly recommend staying on the hotel side. The rooms are large and lovely. The villas are a different story. They are very tight, space wise, but nicely outfitted. I really do not care for the bathroom location in the 1 bedroom units. I will say they did a good job using the space they had to with on the villas, they are just very tight. I don’t think I would be comfortable with anymore than 2 people in a 1 bedroom villa. There is not much of a view from the villa section…only those on the top floor are going to get a peekaboo view of the ocean. The most annoying thing about the villa side is the noice from the patios. You can hear everything on everyone’s patio. It just resonates off the pool on the villa side. Everything else, including the exterior grounds and on site restaurants, are excellent.

GGuest UserI hate to give a poor review, but I want to make people enough information to decide for themselves. Pros: The location was great (about a 5 minute drive from the airport and a 5-10 minute walk to a number of restaurants and an ABC store). The 2 bedroom condo was spacious and had 2 full baths and 2 lanais. The stencils on the walls were charming. Cons: If you are a neat freak you might want to look elsewhere. The tile floors were not very clean. I tried to wipe down the floors in the main living area, but we still ended up cleaning our feet off before putting our shoes on to leave. The bathrooms were reasonable as to cleanliness. Another thing to consider is that our unit didn't have central air. There were 3 window units (1 in each bedroom and another in the living area). They operate on a timer and they are loud so it makes it a little hard to fall asleep.

GGuest UserI loved my stay here! I rented an ocean-facing, ground floor room and was not disappointed. The sunrise every morning was superb! Everything was close by, food/restaurant options were plenty, and there is a nice long walking path along the ocean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It's hard to rate the ”service” since I was only there for 3 days (they don't clean the rooms unless you stay for 5).

GGuest UserThis is a very nice property, and the grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The staff was very pleasant and welcoming. The gym is better than the average hotel gym but needs some love (elliptical clunky) and better A/C. The room was generally clean and up to date (we were in the recently renovated section) but the carpet was dirty. We booked a partial ocean with pool view room. Initially they tried to give us a room on the ground floor which would have a laughable ocean view if at all. Upon our objection they gave us a second-floor room which more or less looked like the example on the web page. Had an issue with ants that they quickly addressed. Beach was small and the water not really swimmable due to rocky bar about 20ft out causing roughness (not an issue for us but may be for others). Had breakfast and dinner once each in the hotel. Not impressive for a hotel of this caliber/price range thus opted to eat elsewhere other days (5-night stay). Overall, it is a nice hotel and would have given it a 5 star except the various little things noted above kind of add up. We'll probably try something different next time.

GGuest UserWe stayed at Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club, a Marriott Vacation Club property, on our way off the island. We booked an Ocean Front Parlor using hold points and got exactly what we wanted - a clean room with a true ocean view. The card named Carrie as the housekeeper, and she did an amazing job - the room was fully stocked and immaculate. Her hard work & that of other housekeepers earned the 4th star for this rating! We were less than impressed with the other employees we encountered. No one seemed happy to be working there. The bell staff seemed disenchanted, and yes, you have to use bell staff at this location. Front desk staff were not welcoming. In fact, we wanted in line for 20 minutes to check in & were improperly charged occupancy tax for a night that we did not actually occupy the room. We were incorrectly told that we had to check out by 10 am to avoid paying occupancy tax, which we knew to be wrong thanks to being educated in great detail about the occupancy tax law the previous year by the staff at Ko Olina Beach Club. This front desk employee had a real attitude— we chose not to argue with him. His behavior was indicative of the vibe we got from everyone else we encountered there. If not for the outstanding condition of our room, this would be a 2-3 star rating. We don’t plan to return to Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club unless it is the only location available on Kauai when we can travel. There are plenty of other lodging options available in Lihue. They don’t have the excellent beach front location of this resort, though, and the proximity to great restaurants. We might try the Royal Sonesta, though. It’s collocated & actually maintains the pool & grounds. The Royal Sonesta employees we encountered gave off the same type of vibe (disinterested, unhelpful, unwelcoming) as the Marriott Vacation Club staff, though. Just don’t expect a warm welcome at either location.

GGuest UserI booked 2 King rooms we asked for early check in, they couldn’t do that because they had been booked up the night before . We came back at 3:00 (which was their check in time) we could only get 1 of the king rooms at that time. She offered us a Double room at that point. I ask when the other king would be ready she said it might be ready around 5 (2 hrs after check in). We had to be ready for a Luau we had booked by 5 so we took the Double room . I asked about a discount for not getting the room we booked ahead for and was told no the the double room rate is more. The rooms are outdated, they look like they start to remodel some but didn’t finish (THE ONLINE PICTURES ARE VERY DECEIVING) . As far as the cleanliness of the rooms that was a laugh for BOTH ROOMS. There is a sigh to take your shoes off it is the Hawaiian way, that’s was another laugh our bare feet never touched the floor. I had to Lysol the bathroom down just to feel somewhat clean. I am sure that it was not COVID cleaned. Oh and the Air Conditioning was a window unit with a make shift vent to the bedroom from the living room in one room and the other room had 2 wall units. (They did work pretty good) One good thing is the fans work well. We did ask for a late check out due to having a late flight home and once again was told they couldn’t because they were booked up again. Then they called and gave us an extra 30 minutes. I find it interesting that most of the most of the rooms looked empty the whole time we were there. VERY DISAPPOINTED
